I guess I missed those, need to check out, specially the Galician, it’s one of my favorite regions (next to catalunya and extremadura) and I love their language, people when speaking Galician always sound super nice :-)
from which region are you btw?
I'm half Catalan and half Andalusian. When growing up I lived in both regions, but I moved to Madrid for college and have been living here for a while.

This is cool! Are you gonna do this for each region?
im passing only through euskadi and castilla y leon this time but in June I’m thinking of doing a “vuelta” via all 15 Spanish regions so those traditional songs would give a nice soundtrack for the trip :-)
The next one in 2 days will be from Euskadi
. In previous posts I have covered sevillana from Andalucía, jota from Aragón, chotis from Madrid, sardana from Catalonia, seguidilla from Castilla-La Mancha and muñeira from Galicia, which makes 7 out of 17 regions. After that I will probably move to the team presentations and since these will be based in 9 cities, I will also cover some more details there.

Seguidilla
Seguidilla is a type of folk dance that originated in the La Mancha region, in the center of Spain. It is a lively and energetic dance that is typically performed by a solo dancer or by a group of dancers. The seguidilla is usually performed to the accompaniment of a guitar, and the dance itself is characterized by its quick, staccato footwork and sharp, precise movements.
The dance is performed in a variety of styles, depending on the region and cultural context.

Chotis
"Chotis" is a dance and music style that apparently originated in Bohemia in the late 18th century, quickly making its way to other parts of Europe and America. It is characterized by its slow and graceful rhythm, and is often performed as a ballroom dance.
The chotis is usually performed by couples, who dance to the accompaniment of a small orchestra or a single piano. The dance is characterized by its smooth, gliding steps and elegant movements, and is typically performed in a relaxed, leisurely manner.
The chotis was very popular in Spain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was considered one of the most sophisticated and refined forms of Spanish dance. Although its popularity has declined in recent decades, the chotis remains an important part of Spanish cultural heritage, and is still performed and appreciated in Madrid.

Still just five nations voted?
Yes, but it isn't that weird. We usually have most of the votes in the last 2 or 3 days.

The origins of the jota are not well-known, but it is thought to have developed from a combination of ancient Celtic, Arabic, and Spanish musical and dance traditions. Today, the jota remains a popular folk dance in Spain, and is performed at a variety of social and cultural events, including weddings, festivals, and other celebrations.

After my first 2 listenings I am down to 19 songs and my top3 is already defined. As usual, 9th-12th places are going to be very difficult to pick and I will probably have two more listenings before making my final decision on Wednesday.
I don't know if it's just me, but I think this year we have a lot of ballads (some of them quite good but others are cliché or imitations of famous singers), more than in previous Annual editions.

The Entries Window is officially closed!
You can start listening to the songs whenever you want. As a reminder, the Voting Window will open next Thursday and will last 2 weeks. I hope the 38 registered nations will send their votes in time and participate in the Grand Final of March 18th.

omg Belinda! I had such a crush when I was younger, loved her first songs and the one with Andy y Lucas 😃I really liked that song too. In fact, it was one of the options I had in mind for the Open edition. Belinda had several hits in the 2000s and early 2010s but I had lost track of her until the collab with Ana Mena.
-
FYI: We are getting closer to the deadline for submitting songs (midnight from Saturday to Sunday in CET)! So far we have 19 songs entered

ESPAÑA
Ana Mena, Belinda - Las 12
Lyrics (Spanish):
QuoteTú y yo frente al mar
¿Te acuerdas de mí?, ¿dónde estás?
Yo quisiera verte, convencerte
De que vuelvas otra vez a quererme
Fue tan mágico, melancólico
Tan nostálgico, tan ilógico
Volver a perderte, quisiera volverme
Ay
¿A quién llamo cuando lleguen las 12? (Beli, Ana Mena)
Solo duermo pa verte, pa soñarte un poquito
Cómo extraño tu boca y eso' ojo' bonito'
Fuimo' lo más lindo que hay
No me digas goodbye, no me digas goodbye
Ay
¿A quién llamo cuando lleguen las 12?

The original deadline is in slighltly less than 30 hours, but considering that we are still missing 18 nations and it has been requested by

juries, I will give an extra day to vote. This means that the new deadline is Thursday, 9th March at 23:59 (CET).
The Festival of Music will keep the original dates, so you can pick countries and/or send songs from Thursday, 9th March at 00:01 (CET).
