Who would have thought the only jury without points at this stage would be Italy?
I would say it isn't that weird because songs from the 1950/60s don't do as well in TISC as more recent songs from the 1990s or the 2000s.

I agree that Europe should host 2036, a 16 years gap for European Summer Games would be unprecedented. The issue is that the current economical crisis will hit Europe the hardest out of all the regions, so... yeah, maybe you shouldn't expect Europe to host any Olympic Games or FIFA World Cups soon beyond the ones we already have (Paris 2024 and Milano Cortina 2026).
Dark times are ahead of Europe in our near future, so I am expecting that IOC and FIFA won't be eager to pick the continent. I think the 2030 FIFA World Cup will go to Saudi Arabia (plus Greece and Egypt, but we all know which country has all the money out of the three), and the 2036 Summer Games will go to Asia (Seoul or China again, maaaaybe India).
Personally I would pick Berlin for SOG 2036 (I don't care how that would look historically, it's been 100 years.), and Spain-Portugal for the 2030 World Cup. But Germany and Spain will probably be busy saving their country (and the EU) for the terrible recession we are facing than to lobby for these events at IOC and FIFA.
Regarding the 2030 World Cup, Spain and Portugal have been "forced" by UEFA to add Ukraine to the project, so I guess that at this point they will push to the end.

voted!
As usual, it was tough to rank from 9th to 15th place. Maybe if I had sent my votes yesterday or tomorrow the reserves could have gotten a couple of points instead of the songs I ended up choosing.

I just realized that Chile's song was released in 2020.

ESPAÑA
This is going to be the 14th participation of Spain in TISC and for the first time ever we are going to send a song in English. It is also the oldest song sent by our delegation in an Open edition.
I am not the biggest fan of sending a song in a foreign language, but I am going to make an exception with this one because of the context. I can count with my fingers the English songs performed by Spanish singers/band that have become famous in the country. This was the first one, in 1966.
In the 1960s, Franco's dictatorship started to show some apertureness to the outside world and British music spread quickly in the big cities. Because of this, young musicians in Madrid and Barcelona joined to form bands copying the Beatles or the Rolling Stones. The fan phenomenon was born in Spain with pop and rock groups like Pekenikes, los Diablos, Fórmula V or Los Bravos.
The four bands had hits in the late 1960s, but the biggest one was Black is Black from Los Bravos. I hope you enjoy it!
Los Bravos - Black is Black
Lyrics:
QuoteBlack is black
I want my baby back
It's grey, it's grey
Since she went away, oh ohWhat can I do
'Cause I-I-I-I-I
I'm feelin' blueIf I had my way, she'd be back today
But she don't need in time
To see me again, oh, ohWhat can I do
'Cause I-I-I-I-I
I'm feelin' blueI can't choose, it's too much to lose
My love's still strongOh, maybe if she
Would come back to me
Well, it can't go wrongBad is bad
I bet I feel so sad
It's time, it's time
I bet I found peace of mind, oh ohWhat can I do
'Cause I-I-I-I-I
I'm feelin' blueI can't choose, it's too much to lose
My love's still strongOh, maybe if she
Would come back to me
Well, it can't go wrongBlack is black
I want my baby back
It's grey, it's grey
Since she went away, oh ohWhat can I do
'Cause I-I-I-I-I
I'm feelin' blue'Cause I-I-I-I-I
I'm feelin' blue -

Portugal
Did you know that in Portugal there is this ancient tradition (based from our student city, Coimbra) where university students dress in special clothes like this?
If you walk through any Portuguese big city during September/October you'll see hundreds of students dressed like this, and a fun fact is that it was actually this traditional clothes that inspired the Harry Potter's world Hogwarts vests.
I'm bringing this story because, apart from dressing like this, students get organised in traditional Portuguese university musical groups, called Tunas Académicas, where they go play and sing across the country during the school year.
So this year Portugal proudly presents a truly traditional Portuguese song, from the University Student music group of my own University (IST), which is called TUIST (Tuna Universitária do IST).
P.S - I was actually in the audience during this video's show (thousands of years ago haha
)
TUIST - Se um dia não houver luar
We also have tunas universitarias in Spain and I think that some LATAM countries also have them, but in each country they sing with their own style.

The problem of being successful for so many years is that if you do not meet some minimums, both the coach and the president of the federation would be in trouble. At least in football and in basketball, which are the two main sports in the country.
In football Spain has never failed to qualify for a World Cup since 1978 and has always been top8 in all the EuroBaskets since 1979. Therefore, reaching these levels is a requirement for all teams.
Other big European teams are also using this rule in their favor (Mike Tobey with Slovenia or Joel Embiid with France for the Olympics). And even with Brown, winning a medal is quite unlikely for this team. The main goal of the year was to reach QF/SF and qualify for the 2023 World Cup. Otherwise, it would have been an embarrassment for this sport, specially after failing to qualify for the Women's World Cup.

Medal Table:
Gold
Silver
Bronze
4th place
Bad tournament for the Spanish team after the gold medal last month at the World Championship. The situation is reversed with the women's side and Hungary has the edge over Spain.
-
We won the tournament (again) with more than half of the team being under 22yo including the MVP of the team and the new goalkeeper.
Still the team can't compete against the American girls, but at least we have a very high win-rate against Hungary and Greece. Italy and the Netherlands are a little bit tougher for us.

What connection has Lorenzo Brown with Spain? For me, Spain should be embarrassed. They have such great history in the sport, so many great players, big population, and they still had to go and naturalise an American who has never even played in the Spanish league?!
It's bad enough we have countries like Bosnia, Montenegro, FYROM etc always with their token American who never stepped foot in their country before getting citizenship, (and don't get me started on Turkey also), but for Spain this is quite pathetic in my opinion. I am sorry if that sounds rude but they are really better than that and shouldn't have to naturalise players when they are a very good team as it is.
Dorsey's
And before anyone says anything about the Greek team, mother is half Greek and lived in Athens when she was young (and he plays for Olympiacos), the Antetokounmpo brothers were born and raised in Athens, and Calathes' paternal grandparents are from Limnos island (and he played for Panathinaikos for like 10 years), so it's very different.
I don't see the problem. It is legal to have a naturalised player in your team and this year all the top playmakers were injured or unavailable due to personal reasons (mainly Ricky Rubio and Sergio Rodríguez), so the only decent choices were to call Juan Núñez, who is only 18 and not very experienced against senior teams or call Lorenzo Brown. Spain has reached the semifinals for 10 editions in a row and the federation wants to keep this record going.
There is no much difference between this case and Dorsey, where the only connection is having a parent who lived there for a few years but was fully raised in the US
.
Furthermore, even with Brown, who is not consistent at all, this Spanish team is quite weak after the retirement of Pau and Marc Gasol, Juan Carlos Navarro or Felipe Reyes and also key players Sergio Llull and Ricky Rubio are injured...

Fellow
users of Totallympics, I have been quite busy this year and I am not sure if I will be able to participate in the next edition. Therefore, it would be nice if some of you can join the Spanish delegation, especially considering that we have the hosting rights for the 2023 Annual TISC.

won yesterday 7-0 against
. Not the most entertaining game to watch. Hopefully we will also beat

to qualify.

Regarding the Spanish team, we send "A teams" in many sports (shooting, sailing, taekwondo, karate, judo, fencing, boxing, archery, weightlifting...), including the Olympic champions Alberto Fernández and Fátima Gálvez (shooting) and silver medalist Adriana Cerezo (taekwondo). However, we also send very weak and small teams in both athletics and swimming so there is no way we can reach a good position in the medal table.
