They had three 9th places in SOG before (boxing 1976, cycling 1988, judo 2012). Previous best at WOG was 18th (Mireia Gutierrez, combined 2014).

They had this in 2002 too but the first part didn't award any medals.

Two misses for Hojnisz Reztsova has the ski speed to challenge for medals but she also had two misses.

If I had my way there would be a sprint that awards medals and a separate sprint that is used as qualifying for the pursuit, as impractical as that may seem.

We had this in cross country before the current skiathlon format (1992-2002). A medal-free race that only set the time difference for the pursuit. It wasn't the best idea though so I doubt we'll see it revived.
