Yeah, that's a strong quadrant. Hoping for Pavan/Melissa to make it through, but they could easily lose at any round.
Also cheering for the McNamara twins, always felt they can have a breakout year at any time.

Canada's best (arguably) para-swimmer Aurelie Rivard had a medical emergency during a race at the World Championships.

Hopefully everything is okay!

Quite happy with our final performances. Just need that little extra push and we could be looking at a good medal haul for 2024.

The difference here is the doesn't compete at the Commonwealth Games and doesn't compete internationally in gymnastics.
It would be like not allowing swimmers to compete for at the Pacific Games despite being born there.

Honestly shooting should be included and rhythmic gymnastics should be dropped. In fact, among the Olympic disciplines, rhythmic gymnastics is the least deserving discipline at the Commonwealth Games.
Shooting on the other hand is behind rowing and sailing in terms of biggest Commonwealth snubs.

Yeah, the gripe about shooting or weightlifting is a bit unfounded. The team and the snatch/C&J events were only there to inflate medals. I'd have the same feeling if they removed the individual apparatuses in rhythmic gymnastics.
When I look at whether a sport/event should be part of the Commonwealth Games, I ask myself, "are there at least 8 competitive nations?" Admittedly, that helps Great Britain more since they are split at the games. England and Scotland are major players and Wales and Northern Ireland can add depth. Throw in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa who tend to have similar interests and it's not too difficult to find a couple of other nations to make the event competitive. Meanwhile for India (or other nations), if they don't have the support of the previously mentioned nations it will be hard to find enough nations to make the event viable.

Ah yes, the youthful and hip sport of golf.
I think the IOC needs to concede to either cut sports/events or increase the total number of athletes to around 12,000. That's how many athletes we needed once they made the (correct) decision to expand women's sports.

Canoeing and sailing at least have the ability to be shrunk (and in canoeing's case able to drop slalom). Modern pentathlon can't shrink without disappearing.

JoshMartini007 got a reaction from dcro in Tennis ITF Roland Garros 2022
It's still impressive how three men dominated singles for so long. We've had 74 grand slam tournaments since Federer won his first (2003 Wimbledon) and the breakdown is...
Nadal - 21
Djokovic - 20
Federer - 20
Everyone else - 13 between 9 players
In the everyone else category, three of them happened during the first two years (2003-2005) and two happened in the last two years. Makes you think what could have been had the three not existed. Would Murray or Wawrinka have won double digit grand slams or would the winners been as varied as the women's (minus Serena Williams)

Yeah, they need to follow canoeing and have a rule where at least 2 or 3 nations have to compete for the quota to be valid.
I do like the emerging nations quotas, it helps nations which are good in other sports, but developing in the sport in question. I always found it unfair for nations like Ethiopia and Jamaica where they are quite weak in almost all sports, but because of athletics they are not eligible for tripartite quotas.

FWIW Christa Deguchi confirmed in an interview w/ Radio-Canada that she’s committed through Paris 2024 at least. She mentions that she took a few months off training after failing to qualify for the Olympics but that her love for the sport has come back.

I disagree that the Commonwealth and Olympic sports program should be aligned. There are Olympic sports that just aren't well played in the Commonwealth. In a time where they are trying to cut costs, do you really think hosting fencing or handball events is a good idea.
On the flip side, while netball has no business at the Olympics, it is almost exclusively played by Commonwealth nations.

For people keeping track, we are missing
Aquatics (Artistic Swimming, Diving, Open Water, Swimming, Water Polo)
Athletics
Canoeing (Slalom, Sprint)
Cycling (BMX Freestyle, BMX Race, Road, Track)
Equestrian (Dressage, Eventing, Jumping)
Football
Sailing
Surfing
Table Tennis
Tennis
In terms of direct qualifiers, equestrian and football will definitely have 2022 qualifiers while sailing may also use their 2022 world champs. The 2022 Asian Games may have qualifiers in these sports too (sailing? tennis?)

Looks like 1 less tripartite invitation per gender for badminton. Funny enough the qualification document references 34 & 35 initial single quotas, an issue when you copy and paste the previous rules.
I also thought sport climbing would split their quotas evenly. In hindsight, it makes sense for the Bouldering/Lead event to have more athletes.

Hopefully we can win our first ever Pan American Games gold medal. At the very least, I hope we can win a medal after winning none in 2019.

There was also a cap in 2020, but it was 28 swimmers per gender.
