  3. I'm trying to predict the draw. based on WT rules the host athletes will get the 4th seed. and non-seeded athletes will be drawn. and I assume they will treat EOR athletes like the rest, giving them a seed based on their ranking so here is the "possible" men's 58kg draw Jang (1) vs Barbosa (16) Vicente (8) vs Braganca (9) Suzuki (4) vs Demse (13) Artamonov (5) vs Jendoubi (12) --- Dell'Aquila (2) vs Salim (15) Khalil (7) vs Sawekwiharee (10) Hadipour (3) vs Ochoa (14) Wooley (6) vs Guzman (11) ============================== and men's 68kg *** the last time I checked the WR Mirhashem Hosseini moved up 2 places after winning the G2 event in Beirut. but surprisingly they erased that result . I don't know if this is just a mistake or for whatever reason they don't consider Beirut Open results?! I will make this draw based on the current ranking which may not be correct. but if it's just a mistake Hosseini will be 6th, Achab 7th and Pontes 8th. no other change. there are two athletes from UZB and MLI without a ranking point (because they changed their weight late) since we have a so called "refugee" in the list which makes it 17, UZB and MLI most probably have to fight first and the winner enters the main round. Lee (1) vs Rashitov or Fofana (both unranked) Hosseini (8) vs Huang (9) Suzuki (4) vs Husic (13) Perez (5) vs Wael (12) --- Sinden (2) vs Burns (15) Pontes (7) vs Recber (10) Zhao (3) vs Sediqi (14) Achab (6) vs Pie (11)

  5. I wanted to make the same draw for all 8 weights but then after what I saw at 68kg ranking, I'm not sure if we can "trust" it. I checked other results and it seems they counted Beirut Open ranking points for everybody but Hosseini ! here in the results section, they show the Kazakhstani guy who lost to Hosseini in the SF (and not the final) as the gold medalist which makes me believe this is just a mistake. https://worldtkd.simplycompete.com/eventDetails/11eb6d2d-be04-22d1-baa4-0ae12d8ed753/6 I'm going to continue with the current ranking but keep in mind we can't fully trust it. men's 80kg: Khramtcov (1) vs Sawadogo (16) Martinez (8) vs Kanaet (9) Soares (4) vs Alessio (13) Eissa (5) vs Marton (12) --- Beigi (2) vs Liu (15) Rafalovich (7) vs Hernandez (10) Cisse (3) vs Mahboubi (14) El Sharbaty (6) vs Ordemann (11) men's +80kg: Larin (1) vs Mansouri (16) Tarjkovic (8) vs Obame (9) Sansores (4) vs Sapina (13) Cho (5) vs Sun (12) --- In (2) vs Taufatofua (15) Bachmann (7) vs Zhaparov (10) Alba (3) vs Georgievski (14) Issoufou (6) vs Gbane (11)

However just now i found a chrome extension that gave me a link right away and downloaded a stream from nbcolympics.com (7 minute video, top quality, 229 mb)

  17. it's a serious problem with NBC, i remember beijing 2008 when they started all the feeds on nbcolympics.com, they wouldn't have feeds of the main events and even swimming which was primetime in the east, i still had to wait 3 hours for them to show it in the west. Then for vancouver even though it was the same timezone as LA, they only showed live the canada-usa hockey final and it was a big deal that it was a live coast to coast For london they already improved and allowed streaming of gymanstics, swimming, track on nbcolympics, however you had to watch live because there would be no reruns, luckily an evening in london is still a pretty good time in here. If i remember correctly Rio was the breakthrough, live primetime coast to coast, and everything fully open on nbcolympics, along with rewind and replay even during the live feed, off course the timezone was very good for us. The one thing about peacock is that if you cant start the feed on time, you should wait for it to be over and then rewatch it, you cannot rewind midstream. I just turned on the diamond league on peacock and i cannot go to the start, just have to finish watching and then rewatch the beginning

    1 point
  33. No, it only says he won't be vaccinated, and there's no requirement saying one needs to be vaccinated in order to compete (at least according to media writing about it). It can be fairly understandable in this case. His justification is not so much being some anti-vaxxer, but about the chance that he'd have a reaction to the vaccine which would make him lose several days of training and so decrease his medal chances. So short before the Olympics, one can at least understand that choice.

  35. Some Danish fans had a pretty tough evening as well with English "fans" spitting at them and some pretty rough shouting, also towards children. Apparently some English fool managed to get a ticket for the Danish section and tried starting a fight as well. And Social Media is packed with people defending the behaviour and comments about how it's just getting attention because it's England. Some people just want to show their "fan" culture from the very worst side. Sadly we have fools as well here in Denmark, especially when we start discussing beer throwing in the stands. Apparently you shouldn't come to a football game if you don't want your clothes to smell like beer! And also some fools booing the Russian anthem (didn't notice that where I was watching the game)

I agree. Unfortunately sometimes we fall into a trap of getting excited too soon. Like I said look at our women's water polo team which won so much at the junior levels and I thought they would be doing much better as women by now (though they somehow are able to do better on the club teams than with the national team). And of course in rowing for many years now we win so many medals at these competitions but for various reasons don't do the same at the senior level. I also think sometimes it is better to have a few good players per year and not do so well than a whole team that wins everything. This is why I think our women's basketball team has a great chance to qualify for Paris 2024. We didn't have any great results with the youth teams, but every few years there are some good players and I think in the end when they are all older they will be good together. We saw it first with Spanou and Stamolamprou. Then with Fasoula/Christinaki/Pavlopoulou, then Tsineke, and now the new talents seem to be Chatzileonti and Bosgana. Right now they're a bit too young but I think with some more experience in a few years they can push to make it to Paris. We will see. Good to see Mouzenidis get bronze today even though I thought he would be throwing better by now. In 2018 his PB was 19.46 and now three years later it is 19.92. I know he had injuries but really hoping in the next years he can do a lot better. He will have to improve a lot in order to make it to Paris but I think he can do it. There seems to be a very good team in Nea Kallikrateia so I am not too worried about him. Tomorrow we have three good chances for medals with Karydi, Frantzeskakis, and Filtisakou. Karydi is consistently jumping over 14m now, and Filtisakou really impressed me with her improvement this year. If anything I expected Fiaska to make the Olympics before her.

  47. The International Olympic Committee announced the Refugee Olympic Team for Tokyo 2020 on Tuesday, and as a connoisseur of multi-sports games, I found myself curious as to the multi-sports games credentials of the athletes selected for the team. I began my quest for knowledge by consulting an archive of multi-sports games results dating from the early 2000s to the present. While the search itself took a few hours, having to comb through results of various multi-sports games, it did produce some interesting factoids about a few members of the Refugee Olympic Team. The first “hit” in the database was for athletics participant, Dorian Keletela. Keletela ran as a representative of the host country, Republic of Congo, back at the 2015 African Games. He was entered into the 100m and clocked a time of 10.68 in the heats. He failed to advance out of the heats, thus ending his pursuit of gold. This was also his only recorded participation at a multi-sports games. The second athlete to pop up during the search was Wessam Salamana. Salamana competed in boxing at the 2010 Asian Games as a representative of the Syrian Arab Republic. Salamana actually enjoyed relative success at the Games, beating opponents from Timor-Leste, Republic of Korea, and Bhutan on his way to earning a bronze medal. In fact, his only loss came in the semifinals when he was defeated by the eventual gold medalist from Thailand. The 2010 Asian Games would mark Salamana’s only participation at a multi-sports games, but he’ll definitely be hoping to relive his time on the podium at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games. The next athlete to appear in the database also registered a start for the Syrian Arab Republic. Ahmad Badreddin Wais competed for the country in cycling at the 2018 Mediterranean Games. He recorded results in both the road race and time trial. In the road race, Badreddin Wais finished in 47th place and outside the time limit. However, he faired much better in the time trial placing 16th out of 20 riders, only 2:55 behind the winner of the event. He will likely be hoping for a similar performance in the time trial during the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games. Perhaps the most prolific multi-sports games athlete on the Refugee Olympic Team is Javad Mahjoub. Mahjoub competed for the Islamic Republic of Iran at both the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games. His performances in Judo at both Games were full of ups-and-downs. At the 2010 Asian Games he managed to win his first match, before subsequently losing two matches, including one in the repechage round. He faired slightly better at the 2014 Asian Games, qualifying for the bronze medal match after losing in the semifinal stage. Unfortunately, he finished the competition in 5th place after a loss in the bronze medal match. He will definitely be hoping for improved results at Tokyo 2020. The last athlete to appear in the database was Cyrille Fagat Tchatchet II. Tchatchet II participated in weightlifting at the 2014 Commonwealth Games representing the country of Cameroon. He managed a very respectable result at the Games finishing his event in 5th place ahead of 15 other lifters. In total, he managed to lift 315kg during the -85kg competition. The 2014 Commonwealth Games would also mark the end of his multi-sports games journey until it was announced he made the Refugee Olympic Team for Tokyo 2020. In total, these five athletes represent only a small part of the Refugee Olympic Team. However, these five athletes also show that the Refugee Olympic Team is not to be taken lightly in Tokyo. While they might not be favorites for medals, they are experienced competitors at this level, and will be ready to give it their all in Tokyo. For those who missed the announcement of the Refugee Olympic Team, a full list of the athletes selected can be found here.
