  1. Pretty much. The first generation of athletes may see some success because of the uniqueness of the event, but after that it will become tough for it to be sustainable, especially if more and more athletes sign up. The event has a branding issue, if breaking the world record is all that matters then people will take more drugs to the point where someone is going to die and once that happens the negative press will essentially shut them down. They will also have a tough time legitimizing the records. It's like the INEOS Challenge for a sub 2 hour marathon in 2019, they succeeded, but no one cared.
  2. Not sure if we even have any dedicated sport newspapers. In terms of online stuff: CBC Sports Nothing on TSN and Sportsnet you have to scroll pretty far down
  3. Take into account that rowing has fewer medals than athletics/swimming and we basically have our best summer sport in total taters.
  4. Not surprised, we'd probably get a similar vote from IOC members. They might hold off to see what happens in 2026 in terms of boycotts, but at this rate I expect them to fully return by LA28.
  5. Quick start with both teams scoring a try in the opening 10 minutes. leads 7-5
  6. Anything can happen in road cycling. First ever gold for
  7. Ranking points follow something similar to the Elo system in chess so technically yes, but not too much given the amount of time and matches still to be played.
  8. This will be in the ODI format so different from the Olympics. Participating Teams
  9. Yeah, entry standards don't really matter due to the quota limit. World Aquatics could have prioritize people based on points during the qualification period and keep adding swimmers until the max quota is hit and achieved the same purpose.
  10. Yeah, there'll be a gap no matter what they do. One option would be -60kg, -71kg, -79kg, -94kg, -110kg, +110kg for the men and -53kg, -63kg, -69kg, -77kg, -86kg, +86kg for the women
  11. Not a good Day 2 for Canada. The Men's 2x was eliminated and will finish last, the Women's 4- will compete in Final B, and the Men's 4- will compete in Final C. Only the Women's 1X advanced to the semifinals.
  12. Top 3 in Women's Lead Qualification Garnbret McNeice Sanders
  13. Using the Team Points Table here are the Top 10 most improved nations 1. +31 2. +30 3. +23 4. +22 5. +17 6. +16 7. +15 8. +13 8. +13 10. +12 Interestingly enough, the United States had a drop of 3 medals relative to 2023, but their depth has increased quite a bit. Germany on the other hand, went from 0 medals in 2023 to 5 at this edition. The Top 10 biggest drops relative to 2023 are as follows: 1. -42 2. -41 3. -36 4. -26 5. -20 6. -17 7. -11 8. -10 8. -10 10. -8 10. -8 10. -8 Nations like Ethiopia, Great Britain, and Norway saw a sharp decline in medals while nations like Jamaica and Canada didn't see much change in medals, but lost a lot of depth.
  14. So happy for Rose, I've been keeping an eye on him for a decade so it's great to see him with a world medal. I'm also loving the parity in this sport. 53 nations with at least one medal and only 3 nations with more than 5% of the medals.
  15. So happy we made the final. I knew we had a decent chance against New Zealand given our recent meetings, but they went above and beyond with that performance.
  16. I wonder if they will run as fast as they can or if mind games will be afoot.
  17. It use to be even worse. In 2014 Kim Yuna earned three quota places due to winning gold at 2013 Worlds. They could easily solve this by saying for a 2nd athlete/couple to qualify, they both need to make the free skate/dance and for a 3rd they all need to finish in the top 15
  18. Not increasing the athlete quota is disgusting. 12 per event was already insulting enough.
  19. Pretty good split for each of the regions. United States - 8G - 1S - 3B Americas - 6G - 10S - 7B Europe - 6G - 9S - 7B Africa - 6G - 5S - 5B Asia/Oceania - 2G - 3S - 6B United States by itself remains on top while the rest of the Americas are edging Europe by 1 silver. Africa is keeping pace for golds, but ultimately won't keep up with total medals.
  20. What a crazy group stage. Going by seeding we lost: and given the group getting eliminated was also a bit of a surprise. While out seeded they were ranked quite closely.
  21. I mean Egypt has 7/16 seeded men and 9/16 seeded women at this tournament. They have become by far the most dominant nation in this sport.
  22. The semifinals for the Egyptian Open have been decided. Men Mostafa Asal vs. Karim Abdel Gawad Victor Crouin vs. Diego Elias Women Nouran Gohar vs. Hania El Hammamy Amina Orfi vs. Fayrouz Aboelkheir Unsurprisingly Egypt is doing well.
  23. While I wouldn't expect the SEA Games to match the Olympic program, it is a bit weird seeing some events excluded relative to what's in. For example, they have women's 10m synchronized platform, but not the individual event. Similarly, in cycling there's team sprint, but no individual sprint (at least there's keirin)
  24. The Olympic weights are chosen (they are the same as 2024) Official-Programme-of-the-Olympic-Games-Los-Angeles-2028.pdf
