Many world ranking systems have the issue of more appearances = more points or in this case, all continental championships having the same point value regardless of talent within the continent.

Depends on if they were "renting" the information or "buying" it. Again, without seeing the contract we don't know what they can and cannot do.

I mean, they probably did (I would), but depending on the contract with the IOC, they may not be allowed to publish it elsewhere.

The IOC wanted ownership of the data collected by the group which means they didn't have that information in the first place. I hope the information and future ones aren't lost to time. It should be easier with the post-internet era.

Hopefully that's enough to secure some funding over the next four years.

There's a lot less hurdles as like the NBA, the NFL season won't start until after the Olympics so you won't have the issue that baseball and ice hockey have. It's really up to the players, though I imagine team management may try to discourage them like they do in basketball. Also certain positions and skills don't really translate to flag football, kind of like rugby union players playing sevens. Unfortunately for us, the CFL season will be ongoing so Canada likely won't see much support from them unless they take a week off.

It's a catch-22 for some sports. Won't be added because they aren't popular enough, but would be popular enough if they were on the Olympic program. Of course, even some events are still not popular despite being in the Olympics (synchronized 10m platform diving, BMX freestyle, rowing eights) so clearly other forces are at play.

The sport program blew up in 1920, it went from 102 events in 1912 to 156 events in 1920. By 1928, the program was down to 109 events.

What's wrong with tug-of-war in theory? It's a team based strength competition, something you don't see on the program. Of course, way too few nations actually participate (only 25 total nations are competing at the 2024 World Championships) so it won't be added any time soon

has been investing more into other sports or at the very least their athletes are getting better. While this was still technically their best Olympics ever, I thought they were actually unfortunate and could have won more medals this time around.

Qualification procedures won't be finalized for another two years, but here are my thoughts of our qualification chances in the five added sports. American Football - Even assuming the United States gets a host quota, it might be difficult for Canada to qualify. Currently, Mexico is the next best Pan American nation and while we have potential using CFL and NFL players, I'm not sure if many would commit. A world qualifier would help our chances. Baseball/Softball - We should easily qualify in softball given the United States will get the host quota. Baseball on the other hand will be quite difficult, assuming the team sports are only going to have 6-8 entrants. Cricket - This is our weakest sport among the five here. I was relatively impressed with our men's T20 performance earlier this year. A split West Indies team makes things a bit interesting for the Pan American quota. On paper the major teams from the West Indies should beat us, but it does create a little bit of hope. Lacrosse - We should easily qualify a men's and women's team. At worst we are top 2 in the world. Squash - We currently have 1 man and 2 women in the top 50 rankings. I believe this will be a 16-person tournament and assuming 1 athlete per NOC there's a chance, more so on the women's side, but who knows where they will be ranked in four years or if someone new moves up the rankings.

Usually there's a positive correlation, but some people peak at juniors while others are invisible and then build in their 20s. The good news is we're creating depth which then increases the odds someone will break-out at senior level. That's a sign of a good youth program.

Unless 3x3 gains more quotas they'll probably keep the host allocation the same. With that said, I expect the United States will qualify the other team normally.

Very exciting stuff

Squash was likely from the lobbying effort of the Professional Squash Association. There is a lot of investment in terms of hosting tournaments in the United States. Cricket was definitely influenced by the IOC. Given the delays of announcing which additional sports will be present in 2028, LA28 likely used that desire to bring flag football and lacrosse in.

Since they don't have a separate sports federation within the sport the issue can be avoided though I guess nothing is stopping World Rugby from admitting the Maori Nation as a national federation. In the end non-member nations shouldn't be allowed to compete, but that won't stop the bad PR from coming. They can't even compromise and say they can compete as a second team under a NOC because a) their land spans through Canada and the United States and b) the nation will not accept this.

What's the strength of Australia/United States/Others? This looks really good for our future.

I think the IOC/LA28 stepped into a minefield by letting lacrosse in. There is going to be a lot of negative press once it is announced they won't be allowed to compete. Also setting the precedent of non-NOCs competing would open up such a can of worms in the future.

Some athletic stadiums could squeeze in a cricket field, but it depends on how much extra space was left outside the long ends of the track.

I think they're overestimating the depth from the West Indies. Once you get past the other Caribbean nations are not relevant. Cricket's issue is not interest as there are enough nations which compete at a high level it's the sport-specific venues required (like baseball/softball). Unfortunately, you can't fit a cricket field in a football stadium.

You get weird situations where the current Winnipeg Jets use to be from Atlanta and the team in Utah was originally the Winnipeg Jets before they moved to Arizona.

Cross-sport participation exists. We have athletic athletes participating in bobsled and cyclists participating in speed skating

Handball has their World Championships in December/January while men's ice hockey is in May, schedules can be weird
