  1. It's tough to say, South Korea had horrible luck in team sport qualification (some of which was due to Japan no longer being host). If you remove the 83 team quotas lost, their 2020 numbers would have been 154 which is only slightly higher than what they have here. Of course, failing to qualify in team sports could be an indicator of future problems. I guess we'll see in 2028.
  2. Each nation receives a quota of coaches and support staff to stay at the village (I think the total is 5000). The rest have to stay offsite. I believe the judges/referees stay in the village too.
  3. I don't think Canada officially has a target (they don't want to pressure the athletes), but typically, it's finish in the top 12 in total medals.
  4. Mexico finished 6th at the 2022 Pan American Championships, only the top 5 qualified to the World Cup.
  5. As far as I know, there hasn't been any state sponsoring doping. A Russia like ban has to be reserved for cases like that, banning a nation for too many positive tests will just encourage nations to hide their dopers. With that said, Kenya needs to get their act together
  6. For a nation which only wants the best competing, it's weird they would create a boat for the sake of competing in another event.
  7. I know it's been said before, but it's crazy how Europe and the rest of the World fare in each gender. For the men, Europe makes up 53% of total top 8 athletes while for the women, they are 27%. Is it because the United States/Australia/China/Canada have much better women's teams or does Europe just have better men's teams? Is there a separation in development programs or are we just seeing an unlikely sequence of random chance?
  8. You think they would save the match against the top seeds as the final match...
  9. They obviously combined all the men's and women's events and I doubt they are going to compete in all weight classes in the combat/weightlifting events.
  10. Not sure where to post this, but here's a Youtube channel where two brothers attempt to perform all the Olympic events in one week. As of now, only the first two have been posted
  11. I totally agree. What makes it even more laughable is that in the 1500m there are no lanes so adding a few more athletes does nothing to the logistics of the event.
  12. Maybe a nation will select a hammer thrower to run the 100m to really hammer the absurdity of offering wildcard places in only 3 events (with most nations being defaulted to the 100m).
  13. Without knowing anything I assume the old head coach wants to leave and this is part of the transition plan.
  14. It looks like for some nations they are getting two athletics invitations. Probably to avoid from having only male athletes. Of the ones I listed ( ) now have a woman competing.
  15. The other issue which is a lot harder to solve is that some events are more predictable than others. In reality, some events have a near-lock for gold while for others, the favourite may only have around 20% chance of actually winning gold, but in the end both nations are predicted to win 1 gold medal. This sometimes balances out in the overall medal list, but you do get situations where Great Britain is predicted to win six golds in rowing just because their model states they are the favourites even if slight in some events.
  16. Yeah, that's my biggest gripe with GraceNote. They are selling a product with many errors. I understand athletes can withdraw right up to the last moment, but some of these errors are medals being awarded to nations without qualification or athletes who have withdrew months ago. Obviously, the lack of competition lets them get away with selling this and in the end if something doesn't come true the easy excuse is sports is too random
  17. There's no drawback, it's just sad seeing nations sending fewer athletes
  18. So unless there are some last minute roster changes here are the changes to tripartite eligibility. The following nations will no longer be eligible in 2028 to obtain a tripartite invitation: The following nations will now be eligible in 2028 to obtain a tripartite invitation: The number of tripartite nations will increase from 93 to 100. Obviously not a good trend. Mozambique and Zambia are one withdrawal away from retaining tripartite eligibility while Angola, North Korea and Paraguay need one more athlete to avoid becoming a tripartite nation.
  19. So the following nation's delegations are 100% male (assuming no changes between now and the Olympics): 5/10 are nations with only a single athlete in their delegation. Both Iraq and South Sudan will compete in a team event. There are no female only nations.
  20. That dream died when athletics decided nations can only have 1 universality quota. I wonder how many men only and women only teams we'll have.
  21. Had some time to look deeper into the list. Overall, 691 athletes are listed, this does not include relay-only athletes (~161 additional athletes). 416 athletes obtained at least one OQT. 15 athletes were invited through OCT (and did not have OQT). gained 2 athletes while gained one athlete. 260 athletes qualified through the universality quotas (and don't have OQT/OCT). This was obtained by 151 nations. 108 nations qualified both a man and a women. Additionally, the refugee team has 2 men. 42 nations obtained a single quota (22 men, 20 women), though some nations obtained at least one quota in the opposite gender via OQT/OCT.
  22. At first I was surprised to see 304 athletes listed as universality, but looking through the list I noticed some are not (or at the very least shouldn't have been invited as a universality because their nation had other OQT/OCT athletes).
