  1. Yeah, darts or snooker does not require specialized venues. It should be one of the cheapest sports to host.
  2. Good win by Canada, Germany felt like a trap opponent that could have costed a lot of points. face tomorrow. A win for the Netherlands will grant them big points, this is something probably needed if they want to catch Canada.
  3. Maybe they will propose a 24 hour Olympics where indoor events are held during the day and outdoor events during the night.
  4. In Australia's defense it makes more sense to have a minimum athlete participation of two for Oceania since they only have one quota while the other continents get two. Regardless, the rules were quite clear, just like in canoeing a minimum number of athletes must participate in the qualifier in order to avoid free quotas being awarded.
  5. Unfortunately, the Cambodia athlete did not rank in the top 180 in the world rankings.
  6. Tripartite quotas: Men - Women - The women's second quota was reallocated to . Overall, Bermuda will compete with three athletes. Also the African men's quota is written as pending. Maybe something is up with the athlete?
  7. Yes, the host quota is only given if France doesn't qualify in the event. If they do, then it gets reallocated to the world ranking.
  8. Universality quotas account for around 200 and relay-only athletes will also be at around 175. That's already 44% of the total swimming quota, leaving just over half for the "actual" individual competitors. To translate better, each event would have an average of 17 unique swimmers. Of course, in swimming there are athletes which compete in multiple events, but even with that it isn't hard to see why some events struggle to have 16 non-universality entrants.
  9. Could they not share a zoomed out photo? Looks nice though
  10. Athlete quotas can vary wildly in rowing depending on which boat qualifies. Here are the biggest winners and losers by number of boats vs. 2020 (ignoring Belarus/Russia). Winners +3 boats +3 boats +2 boats +2 boats +2 boats +2 boats Losers -8 boats -4 boats -3 boats -2 boats (might get tripartite quota) Everyone else either gained or lost one boat or had no change.
  11. That makes more sense to award the East Asian quotas now. This means that the men's singles world rankings will have 10 quotas (plus athletes who are also qualified in the mixed doubles).
  12. I decided to take a deeper look on the v race for the final quota. Schedule wise the Netherlands has a tougher remaining schedule. Between the non-overlapped teams they have while Canada has plus they have a head to head match against each other. This could also be to the Netherlands' benefit as they could score some extra points should they pull off an upset (particularly against the Dominican Republic). On the flip side, Canada's match against Germany could be quite dangerous as they are quite capable of beating us which would inflict some damage. Obviously the head to head match will be very important and given it is the penultimate match it could very well determine who gets to go to the Olympics.
  13. I think golf has a decent qualification system. Maybe increase nations eligible to send up to 4 athletes from top 15 to top 30 or 50, but that likely only affects a couple of players at the most.
  14. While I do enjoy cross-country, I always thought jumping was more popular.
  15. Klimkait was in 2020 while Deguchi gets 2024
  16. Now that the continental qualifiers are over, here's the situation for the final continental quotas. On June 11th, the highest ranked eligible athlete from Africa, Asia, Europe and Pan America will get the quota. Here's what the top three look like. Africa Men 19. Quadri Aruna 73. Ibrahima Diaw 118. Saheed Idowu Africa Women 111. Lucie Mobarek 140. Lynda Loghraibi 183. Ammadine Litobaka Aruna pretty much has his spot locked up. The women's quota likely goes to Algeria. Asia Men 42. Kirill Gerassimenko 48. Chun Ting Wong 51. Noshad Alamiyan Asia Women 117. Jingyi Zhou 164. Song Gyong Pyon 179. Alice Chang The men's quota for Asia is quite competitive, but all three will qualify through the rankings. On the women's side the depth is pretty bare now that most of the top athletes have qualified. Singapore has a large lead to win a second quota. Europe Men 38. Liam Pitchford 43. Alvaro Robles 49. Ovidiu Ionescu Europe Women 16. Xiaoxin Yang 20. Sofia Polcanova 44. Xia Lian Ni Europe as usual is quite competitive at this stage. All of these athletes will qualify through the world rankings. Pan America Men 54. Nicolas Burgos 74. Brian Afanador 78. Alberto Mino Pan America Women 11. Adriana Diaz 122. Ivy Liao 127. Yadira Silva Diaz is pretty much qualified. Burgos is in a good position too. Afanador and Mino could make a run, but at the same time they are in a decent position world rankings wise too. The final quotas will be decided through the overall rankings on June 18th. Assuming the above continental qualifiers remains unchanged, the men's side will start with 9 quotas while the women will have 11. Note as quotas are awarded more will be reallocated due to duplicates between singles and mixed doubles. Men 43. Alvaro Robles (reallocation) 48. Chun Ting Wong (reallocation) 49. Ovidiu Ionescu (reallocation) 51. Noshad Alamiyan 56. Daniel Habesohn 72. Eduard Ionescu 73. Ibrahima Diaw 74. Brian Afanador 78. Alberto Mino 79. Martin Allegro 81. Mihai Bobocica 84. Maciej Kubik ------------------------ 85. Siu Hang Lam 86. Daniel Gonzalez 91. Jinbao Ma 92. Paul Drinkhall 93. Andreas Levenko 94. Lubomir Pistej 95. Cedric Nuytinck 98. Benedek Olah I'm not 100% sure if the reallocation of the East Asia and Oceania quotas happen before or after the world ranking quotas. If before, then the East Asia quota will go to Hong Kong (Wong or Lam). If after, it could still go to Hong Kong (Lam), but should Lam make the cut-off then it will go to Temuulen Myandal, though with only four points I wouldn't be surprised if a North Korean player took the quota. The Oceania quota is currently in the hands of Vicky Wu. Women 20. Sofia Polcanova 44. Xia Lian Ni 56. Giorgia Piccolin 60. Maria Xiao (reallocation) 65. Tatiana Kukulkova 66. Georgina Pota 78. Ivana Malobabic 80. Barbora Balazova 81. Hana Matelova 84. Izabela Lupulesku 87. Solomiya Brateyko 94. Debora Vivarelli ----------------------------- 95. Dora Madarasz (reallocation) 104. Sibel Altinkaya 106. Sarah De Nutte 108. Jocelyn Lam 113. Zhehan Yang 116. Sofia-Xuan Zhang 117. Jingyi Zhou 119. Rachel Moret The East Asia reallocation is currently going to Song Gyong Pyon.
  17. It's not like Hess was much slower than Knox in the breaststroke. He can swim the heats of both relays, maybe even the finals should he improve between now and the Olympics.
  18. Correct, the sport director can choose anyone on the team to swim in the relays. The only caveat is that the relay-only swimmers must swim in at least one relay. If not, then Canada's final relays (men's or women's 4x100m medley) will be disqualified.
  19. With that said, 8 teams for the 3x3 is ridiculous, less than the 5x5 variant. Should be 16 teams IMO.
