  1. To be fair, 2020 was a high year for Canada. Even if we fail to qualify volleyball (a 50/50 chance IMO), we'll have a similar size to 2016 (which was also a high mark). I'm hoping Rowing Canada figures itself out.
  2. Squash went under the radar which is why it was surprising it got included. The other chosen sports made it quite well known they were trying hard to get included
  3. That's how it ended, but for a while it looked as if Canada would win by 40 runs. Then it all fell apart.
  4. Typically a 195 is a good score in T20 and we were on pace for an easy win. Then after the 8th over it all came crashing down. The pressure was too much for them. Again we weren't expected to do much, but it is heart breaking to see them lose this way.
  5. The Men's T20 World Cup begins today. With v I guess they wanted the United States to start off with a win . Still, I'm glad Canada was able to qualify, even if we are going to be the weakest team in the tournament.
  6. I wish Chile luck, but unless the IOC is willing to have smaller venues from what it's use to it will be unlikely (unless Chile wants to pull a Brazil and spend even more money building stadiums no one will use). Still it doesn't hurt to go for it. If Turkey or Qatar drop out then Chile would be in a great position.
  7. I don't think Angella Okutoyi will make the top 400 (currently she's 502). The African quota likely goes to Mayar Sherif (the Egyptian silver medalist is ranked even lower) who would have qualified through the rankings normally.
  8. Yeah, darts or snooker does not require specialized venues. It should be one of the cheapest sports to host.
  9. Good win by Canada, Germany felt like a trap opponent that could have costed a lot of points. face tomorrow. A win for the Netherlands will grant them big points, this is something probably needed if they want to catch Canada.
  10. Winning a set saves us a few points.
  11. Maybe they will propose a 24 hour Olympics where indoor events are held during the day and outdoor events during the night.
  12. In Australia's defense it makes more sense to have a minimum athlete participation of two for Oceania since they only have one quota while the other continents get two. Regardless, the rules were quite clear, just like in canoeing a minimum number of athletes must participate in the qualifier in order to avoid free quotas being awarded.
  13. Unfortunately, the Cambodia athlete did not rank in the top 180 in the world rankings.
  14. Tripartite quotas: Men - Women - The women's second quota was reallocated to . Overall, Bermuda will compete with three athletes. Also the African men's quota is written as pending. Maybe something is up with the athlete?
  15. Canada's kryptonite is up 2-0
  16. Yes, the host quota is only given if France doesn't qualify in the event. If they do, then it gets reallocated to the world ranking.
  17. Universality quotas account for around 200 and relay-only athletes will also be at around 175. That's already 44% of the total swimming quota, leaving just over half for the "actual" individual competitors. To translate better, each event would have an average of 17 unique swimmers. Of course, in swimming there are athletes which compete in multiple events, but even with that it isn't hard to see why some events struggle to have 16 non-universality entrants.
  18. Could they not share a zoomed out photo? Looks nice though
  19. Athlete quotas can vary wildly in rowing depending on which boat qualifies. Here are the biggest winners and losers by number of boats vs. 2020 (ignoring Belarus/Russia). Winners +3 boats +3 boats +2 boats +2 boats +2 boats +2 boats Losers -8 boats -4 boats -3 boats -2 boats (might get tripartite quota) Everyone else either gained or lost one boat or had no change.
  20. That makes more sense to award the East Asian quotas now. This means that the men's singles world rankings will have 10 quotas (plus athletes who are also qualified in the mixed doubles).
  21. I decided to take a deeper look on the v race for the final quota. Schedule wise the Netherlands has a tougher remaining schedule. Between the non-overlapped teams they have while Canada has plus they have a head to head match against each other. This could also be to the Netherlands' benefit as they could score some extra points should they pull off an upset (particularly against the Dominican Republic). On the flip side, Canada's match against Germany could be quite dangerous as they are quite capable of beating us which would inflict some damage. Obviously the head to head match will be very important and given it is the penultimate match it could very well determine who gets to go to the Olympics.
  22. I think golf has a decent qualification system. Maybe increase nations eligible to send up to 4 athletes from top 15 to top 30 or 50, but that likely only affects a couple of players at the most.
  23. While I do enjoy cross-country, I always thought jumping was more popular.
