  1. To be fair, she's been living in Portugal for years now trying to get citizenship. She technically couldn't leave Portugal to compete for STP or else it would have restarted the citizenship process again.
  2. No, Africa gets four quotas, three will be decided at this qualifier while the fourth is decided through the world rankings on June 11th. This is similar to Europe where they get six quotas, but only five will be decided at their respective qualifier.
  3. By rankings, same for all the other continents
  4. Asia is notorious helpful to each other in table tennis. In 2016, all the top players withdrew from the overall Asian qualifier because they could qualify through the rankings. This ended up costing a few European table tennis players a spot in the Olympics.
  5. I'm not seeing much options. The men's 4x200m is going to get eliminated in the heats so no need to enhance them and the women's 4x200m already has the top six qualified. The men's 4x100m has Hussey and Kharun as options so they may not need Fullum-Huot. Smith and/or Sienna Angove in the women's 4x100m will likely be picked. They can also be an extra backup option for the 4x200m. On the medley side we are pretty well covered except for the men's breaststroke leg, but I don't think we are going to replace Knox in the heats. I'd love for them to select Alexanne Lepage (she technically wouldn't even be a relay-only athlete as she can slot right into the 100m breaststroke), but with Wog and Pickrem they will probably keep it as is.
  6. Nice. Unfortunately, our team won't grow much over the next two days. Maybe one or two new swimmers. However, some of our relay-only athletes may get individual events.
  7. The wording of the document is a bit awkward since they mention freestyle swimmers in priority 3, but as you mentioned they will be automatically qualified through priority 2. I think it was written that way just in case we qualified the medley relay, but not the freestyle relay. I decided to keep the medley selections together rather than split them up. Of course, relay selections are provisional, the director could select anyone on the team to compete. They just need to make sure that our relay-only athletes compete in at least one race.
  8. Here's the qualification list by priority after Day 5. People in italics are qualified in a higher priority. Priority 1: Finish in the top 2 and achieve the OQT at the event. 9. That's what I mean. Typically the tripartite committee avoids awarding a quota to a nation already qualified in the sport. Sometimes it happens because no other nation applied for it.
  10. She can be selected by the director as she is already qualified in other events. With neither MacNeil nor McIntosh competing you pretty much need to finish in the top 4 to make the relay, I doubt the director will select any additional relay-only athletes.
  11. They might, but they could also use Hussey or Kharun (assuming he qualifies in the butterfly). It's up to our swimming director.

  13. New record by Summer. Pretty crazy that she's doing this at a national trials. I would love to see this at the Olympics.
  14. It's a bit complicated. Just like there are athlete quota limits, there are also limits for coaches and support staff. In total, there can only be around 5000 coaches and support staff. Canada has a set amount of personnel they can send which is further split by sport. While I agree with the removal of the rule that the personnel must work in Canada for a certain amount of time, it becomes tricky to send a coach whose focus is on a single athlete. For MacNeil's case, who is in contention to win four medals I would make the decision to bring them. Canada brings too few swimming coaches, given the size of team.
  15. He's been mostly focused on the pommel horse. His best chance at qualifying was through the World Cup.
  16. Looks like the gap between the top and bottom is closing quite a bit.
  17. Unfortunate that Australia rejected both C1 quotas. The Guam athlete in the women's C1 200m had a time of 1:43 at the Oceania qualifier. Most athletes will finish the race in under 50 seconds and I imagine the second slowest (barring an injury) will finish in under a minute. Also the men's C1 1000m quota has not been reallocated. There is currently a bit of a reallocation issue. Following the letter of the law it could go to Samoa, but the athlete had a DNS, but since he counted as one of the three eligible nations in order to make this event eligible he should technically get the quota. Of course, awarding a quota to someone who didn't even race would be seen as bad faith so the quota should go to Ukraine based on their performance at the 2023 World Championships.
  18. The fact that it's only 1-0 at the time makes the match even more crazier.
  19. Overall a quiet morning, hopefully we can see more OQTs during the finals.

  21. Funny, I've been keeping an eye on Bagshaw since the 2010 Youth Olympics. Hope he makes the most of his Olympic ticket.
