  1. Or something like this, like a real tournament
  2. Or you could do a 9 host's contest to select the 8 that would qualify for the main competition (quarter-finals) That way you would have extended fun and suspense!
  3. "too bad" that it's 9 biddings. If it was 8, we could do some kind of elimination luck-game, culminating in a big final for organising the contest!
  4. This one happened after a match here in Lisbon with Benfica, and it is still remembered by Benfica every year...
  5. Genious! One should come here to this forum to get new ideas for tv contests then!
  6. Portuguese news state that one of Chapecoense players that played in Sporting Clube de Portugal, Marcelo Boeck, did not board the plane because he asked for a dismiss to celebrate his birthday.... Can't even imagine his feelings right now.... http://www.dn.pt/desporto/interior/ex-guarda-redes-do-sporting-escapou-a-acidente-de-aviao-na-colombia-5524716.html
  7. Maybe a game like Deal or No Deal ? (do you have this contest-show in your country? )
  8. And we have bids from 4 different continents!
  9. So you don't live in Portugal (I assume) so you don't get to see crazy things like this one...... This is a tv commercial for a portuguese tv/net provider, MEO, staring Cristiano Ronaldo in a very "what the f*** is this s***?!" role: (there are no subtitles but I don't think you need it, they are playing as in Home Alone movie, and the women on the video is actually his real mother)
  10. Those are the only things Salazar did good during his rule:
  11. We were on the West but we couldn't as well travel to outside the country without permission (because everyone was against the colonial war, so many people tried and left Portugal to live in France). Also we had a truly machist regime: womens could not travel without her husband permission. P.S - I really find this interesting (and sad..), having people from all different countries of the world, and it seems all our nations had similar experiences with dictactorships (of different styles, our was not communist but a far-right one) in the nearby past..... One can learn a lot here in this forum
  12. One example of our great leader, Salazar: When everyone else released their colonies in India, our dictator refused to do so. And we only had 3 cities there, nothing else. We had only around 3000 soldiers. Those cities were completely surrounded by the Indian forces with - obviously - no chance of defending anything. And yet, he refused to give the cities to India, and gave the order to the cities commander: "I only want two type of result: winning soldiers, or dead soldiers". Our commanded refused this order, to avoid a massacre, and he was punished by that. By this example I think you can imagine how great he (and his regime) was.... My parents still have bad memories from that time....
  13. We can talk as much as you want, because Portugal colonial war was due to our own "Fidel Castro" He was not "communist", but he was also a dictator who called himself "a great leader". His name? Antonio de Oliveira Salazar, who ruled the country in an infamous dictatorship that brought war to the nation (he didn't want to release the colonies, unlike everyone else in Europe), later replaced by Marcelo Caetano, also "a great leader". Luckly our armies managed to kick them away and gave freedom to the nation, and that is the only reason I and everyone else in my country can speak what we want with real freedom. So yes, "great leaders" like Fidel in Cuba or Eduardo dos Santos in Angola or our own Salazar in Portugal results in some rich people, but A LOT of poverty for their people
  14. And you can see the results of it in Angola.... They seem to be a rich country, Luanda have tons of great business there (lots of portuguese companies have projects there) but the rest of it is serious poverty....
  15. Cubans -> except for El Comandante
  16. There is no dream or easy group for my nation in football, we can end up in first place with a group with Romania, England and Germany (Euro 2000) or in 3rd place in a group with Iceland, Hungary and Austria (and then end up being Euro champions ).
  17. The draw for the Confederations Cup 2017 in Russia was today. Portugal , as the European Champion, got a not so bad group (the strongest teams are Germany and Chile I would say...)
  18. Fidel Castro, Cuba's longtime revolutionary leader, dies at 90 http://edition.cnn.com/2016/11/26/americas/fidel-castro-obit/index.html
  19. I think even with a job we can manage to participate here, even if it's once in a while like I do
  20. Didn't know Mexico had already host. In any case, I stand to my opinion that they should had priority, then Canada, then the 4th place, etc etc. I respect different opinions but I personally view this contest organisation as a way of showing to everyone else their nation's most beautiful places (and songs), just like it was done this year with Lithuania, from which I had no knowledge about the cool places they have there.
  21. If the decision is by voting, I will stay loyal to my opinion that the ones who got closer to win the contest should have priority, and therefore I would vote for Mexico if they are biding. If the decision is to use a random draw, well then good luck to all
  22. Good! Although that video they showed in this contest, from the Noble prize in 2015, is absolutelly brilliant! Great choice @tuniscof and @amen09!! (i think I never had the opportunity to say this )
  23. Cool!! Either if it's Mexico or Canada, I've always wanted to get to know more about this two countries, so it would be a great contest no doubt about that
  24. What the hell happened with Benfica??? 3-0, amazing 1st half, and them they draw..... Well, I think they will qualify anyway, and probably as 1st: they usually are really strong when playing at their home stadium.
