NYPost is a tabloid. I think they generally report fact, but I’ll wait for some more trustworthy publications to report statistics before I come to any conclusions. Politicians can pour as much money into the police as they want, but I’m pretty sure we’ve showed them why that’s a bad idea.

There are absolutely solutions that will make everyone safer and happier. The problem is that we’ve let the police become too strong, and that has led to the rise of polarization and extremism minorities and poorer communities.

You also haven’t done much reading on this issue if you think education and healthcare wouldn’t help solve a lot of factors that cause crime.

Politicians act from one elections to another. Once the shootings ramp up, they will give in not to be voted out of power. That's what happens all the time. New York used to be the most violent city in the USA. If crime becomes the new boss again I'm sure taking funds away from the police will be a forgotten idea in a hurry. You're lucky enough nobody's trying to become the new John Gotti and flood the NY streets with mafia blood again.

Well, we gave the police years to reform and they refused to, and then our hand was forced, so both sides have brought us to this extreme. This is what happens when people refuse to work together on solutions that will work better for everyone. #ThisIsAmerica

You can't find a solution and your idea of blaming the police for everything ain't gonna solve anything either :dunno:  Eventually the crime rate will become so bad all the politicians will pour money into the police again because teachers & social workers won't bring them safety. I simply love the stat that heywood posted, it confirms my theory that taking funds away & disbanding police units will only result in a higher crime rate :)

Meanwhile it's back to reality in the UK, some Libyan fella stabbed three people to death in Reading.

So much for the BLM peaceful protests being held in the same park just hours earlier. If none of the killed people are black I guess their lives don't really matter.

    Long live Brexit!

And so much for these killings not being treated as terrorist act   It turns out killer was known to MI5 since last year already.

I’m pretty sure it’s what we get for founding our nation on a system of systemic racism.

That's how all the colonial Empires were founded after all. Native Americans weren't even granted full US citizenship for some 150 years after your country declared independence

There has been plenty of comments on Covid during the protests as well.

The president has a responsibility to keep the people of the nation safe. That includes taking care of them during a pandemic. There's every right to question whether it's smart to be thousands for a protest during a pandemic as well, but I do find protests a better reason for such than political rallies (and I would certainly say the same if it was a democrat getting that terrible idea).

USA is so divided that the Democrats will never say a positive word about Trump even if he makes some correct decision by chance. Hell, even the Democratic governors lifted some COVID restrictions in wake of social pressure. COVID has become a political issue in USA and there's no point in denying it.

So, when Trump wants to have rally, then the internet/media are instantly afraid of Covid 19, but when there are thousands of protesters/rioters/vandals bunched up every single day, no one talks about Covid... As if it magically skips those people.

I' not surprised, whatever Trump does is wrong, all these progressive minds don't give a damn about COVID when it comes to BLM protests. COVID is old news in their community IMO.

Rough words without reading more about him. Even a Californian Native American professor writing about him (whose words in this matter are a lot more valuable than ours, I assume) said "Serra's intentions were honest and genuine", and he acted from the actual belief that the souls of these people would be doomed otherwise. Nowadays obviously we know that's nonsense, which makes it easy to judge now.

And before a new war or something starts (since I know how easily this can be turned to "Oh so you think it's good that thousands of natives died?!"): no, I'm not saying it's good he did what he did. Just saying it simply is not as black and white as some people are trying to make it look (as so often is the case). Interesting matter though, I'll read more about what people like this Native American professor - whose words I value more than that of others in matters like this - have to say about him.

I haven't ever heard of this guy in first place   Who gives a damn about some friars from 18th century? I find it little surprising that atheists talk more about the Catholic Church than actual Catholics themselves :p

We’re not calling for that. We want to attempt to prevent crime, instead of merely suppressing it with police force. We want to take away money from our insanely large and wasteful police budgets, and hire more social workers, mental health specialists, more teachers, and invest more in disadvantaged communities.

It’s honestly not our fault that many police have decided to turn their back on Americans. They really enjoyed harassing and endangering minorities and communities for decades, and now they are faced the reality that we won’t stand for that any longer.

I think if we make a combination of swift short-term changes, and well planned long term changes, we could create a better system of policing and criminal justice in this country. Of course that’s asking way too much of Americans, so there is the possibility that shit hits the fan somewhere down the line for a number of reasons.

Haven't you heard about this saying: "The more things change, the more they stay the same" :p  This whole idea "less cops, more teachers means better safety and less crime" sounds like a nice social experiement but only on paper. Since it's America I know shit will hit the fan sooner rather than later. All it takes is another school massacre or two and people asking "where was the police?". Well, the police got replaced by teachers and social workers, that would be the answer   Wasn't it Trump who wanted school teachers carrying guns at school? Guess you're drifting into that narrative while trying to cut police jobs.

So you, guys, say that there is a continental allocation for the curling at the Olympics? Interesting.

Brave words at the beginning of just the third decade.

The quota is in place for the World Championships though and without that, you can kiss the Olympics goodbye.

It's not about two decades, it's about the 100+ years of Guyana fielding a team in any team event at the Olympics. The grand total is ZERO so I don't think the first team they ever qualify for the Olympics will happen in curling of all sports. It's called deduction.

Guyana has never even fielded a single athlete during Winter Games, not even some Habsburg monarchy descendant living in South America or some aged American skier or whomever else

The entire police force of Atlanta is refusing to work as well. This is a huge issue. Buffalo PD did the same thing after those two officers were charged with assault for pushing a 75 year old peaceful protestors to the ground

This is why the argument that “all cops are bad” can be made. They care more about loyalty to their “brothers”, than about loyalty to the people they’re supposed to be serving. They are all willing to protect bad cops because the police unions tell them too. They have continued to shoot unarmed civilians (though not in the case of the Atlanta officer), even after years of protest. They have continued to harass communities simply because they have the power to, and they have have downright refused any attempts at reform. This is why we must defund all police departments.

I'm not surprised, this is the police's way of fighting back. Let's see how life looks like without police on duty and then let's call to have them dissolved :p

If you advocate for collective responsibility aka "all cops are bad" then don't be surprised if they fight back to protect their cause. They won't act like sheep going to slaughter.

I simply can't wait to see the murder, rape & burglary stats shoot through the roof once all those PD are dissolved and how people like you will try to justify it :)

:NZL  Alice Robinson established cooperation with Petra Vlhová´s mini team. :d

They agreed to train and work together in one team. At the moment, they are already together at their first joint training camp in Vipiten, then they have a reserved and isolated cabin on hintertux where they will be preparing for the snow season for almost two months.

Boxing and Kayak to start the physical preparation, good idea  videos in this link

    https://raceskimagazine.it/allo-stelvio-anche-petra-vlhova/

I wonder how long it takes before Livio Magoni starts bitching about this? Robinson taking GS points away from Vlhova is bad for the overall ;)

  12. Therese Johaug won't be invited to take part in the Stockholm DL meeting in two month's time due to her doping past. I guess this stretches beyond the usual Norway vs Sweden bickering. Either IAAF (WA) makes a stance on doping or they don't :bye:
