thepharoah reacted to De_Gambassi in Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024 Sports Programme
A few bits about Paris additionnal sports in today's l'Equipe.
5 sports max, IOC is pushing for less Domestic popularity is not a priority anymore First list will be sent by Paris 2024 next month (no more sports could be added after that), will be released during IOC next session (June). Only ~10 sports really stand a chance : The five from Tokyo, wakeboarding, squash, wushu, bowling, pétanque and billard
They also confirm that additional sports will have to fit with the Paris 2024 venues map and that the additional sports quotas will have to fit under the 10 500 overall athletes quotas (Baseball beeing )

the first one was clear...
the second one...well, the hit was there, but the whole action was a bit confused and it could have been evaluated differently...giving the 2 points to the French girl was not a scandal, however...
so far, I have to say the refereeing is pretty decent, compared to the standard of the past...
right now, today I only strongly disagree with 2 matches...the bronze medal bout gifted to Coban in the women's 61kg and the gold medal bout between the Frenchman Dacosta and the Italian Maresca, who was robbed big time of a deserved gold medal...
in all the other bouts I've watched I haven't seen any shameful and suspicious misdemeanor, just a few close calls that could easily have gone the other way round...but in those cases you can't call them scandals or robberies for sure...

Sascha Bajin must be one of the best coaches on the womens tour currently. He did an amazing job with Osaka and he told her that she would become number 1 when he took over. I guess he kept his promise. Personally i dont find Osaka very interesting, i would clearly prefer Bencic having results like that.
Osaka is the first player not named Serena Williams to win back to back slams since Clijsters did it in 2010/2011. I think in this century there are now 5 players who have done it: Serena, Venus, Clijsters, Henin and Osaka.

Raonic would have been a much harder opponent...
I really need a delpo comeback now, I can't watch chumps like Pouille in GS semifinals.

Really sad to see my favorite player getting injured like this (but i know the feeling back from when Paul George was my favorite player). I guess it always has to be Indiana ...
The sad thing is that there were people who saw this injury coming, Indiana clearly mismanaged his knee problems this season.
Withouth Oladipo i dont see them challenging Toronto, Boston, Philly or the Bucks.
For me only Giannis, Kawhi, Embiid and Kyrie are definitely ahead of him this season. Walker, Simmons and Butler are about equal and of course a fit Porzingis as well, but Oladipo for sure is a top 10 player in the east.

Sadly that didn't help, they have given up the (active) search and said the chance of finding any survivor is 'extremely remote'.

thepharoah reacted to De_Gambassi in Men's Handball IHF World Championship 2019
Unlikely, AFAIK, they've never done it on purpose and they didn't do it against Russia during the first group wich would have give them a slighty better schedule for the second round.
I believe, they didn't really care one way or the another, and that was obvious on the court.
Edit: one of the most amazing statistic about this team: since Beijing 08, out of the 28 KO games they played, they won 25 of them

Yeah she injured herself on match point and was barely 5% of what she had been up until that point in the 3rd set: unplayable.

thepharoah reacted to JoshMartini007 in Men's Handball IHF World Championship 2019
According to the qualification document it's the same as 2016.
The continents are ranked based on the best performing nation at the Worlds
1st - Europe
2nd - Africa
3rd - Americas
4th - Asia
Europe gets two spots and since Oceania didn't place between 8th-12th they are not given a spot and Africa will be given a second spot. The tournaments will be as follows
Tournament 1
2nd Worlds
7th Worlds
2nd Americas
2nd Asian
Tournament 2
3rd Worlds
6th Worlds
2nd African
3rd European
Tournament 3
4th Worlds
5th Worlds
2nd Europeans
3rd African
Worlds take priority over continental spots, if someone is qualified the spots move down one. Of course this format is unfair as it gives 7th place in the Worlds a better chance of qualifying over the 4th/5th places, not sure why they wouldn't continue the snake pattern and place the best non-qualified European team in Tournament 1.
