  1. I didn't remember his name until seeing this thread, but it was Donovan Bailey in Atlanta. (I know I was watching the Olympics a little earlier, but I don't remember any specifics.). Atlanta was a big one since it was so close to where we lived.
  2. (Oh, and Ilia Malinin's free skate alone would have beaten two competitors based on their combined score. Same thing happened in France two weeks ago. )
  3. Skate Canada... Shocker! Ilia Malinin won big time. Good to see Isabeau Levito win silver for the Women. Kam and O'Shea won bronze. Carreira and Ponomarenko were one point off the podium for the dancers.
  4. Canada bagging two golds and a bronze at Skate Canada, and the USA one point away from getting a medal in each event. Post 2 updated with results.
  5. Sabine Winter is one to watch for sure. She took Wang Yidi to the deciding game in the final, and making the score 9-9 in the final game before having Wang take the final two points. She has a style of play rarely seen (I'm basing this on the commentating, as I don't know all the insides of table tennis), and Wang seemed baffled for much of the match. In the end, it was the Chinese player who took the trophy, but Winter has caught my eye!
  6. A heartbreaker for sure!
  7. Alexis takes down another seeded player (Darko Jorgic ). That leaves only one seeded male in the semi-final round (Truls ). Wang Yidi survives a quarter-final scare to be the last remaining Chinese athlete in the tournament, and the only seeded woman left. Stay tuned for tomorrow's exciting conclusion!
  8. Alexis exacts revenge on behalf of the Lebrun brothers and takes down #2 seed Tomokazu Harimoto . Alexis was down 2-0 but then took the next three games in front of a wildly cheering crowd.
  9. https://www.olympics.com/en/news/ioc-la28-announces-ben-winston-scott-givens-key-producers-2028-olympic-and-paralympic-ceremonies LA28 announces Ben Winston and Scott Givens as key producers for 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Ceremonies
  10. And another one bites the dust... #3 seed Félix Lebrun goes down at the hand of his compatriot Simon Gauzy .
  11. Not a good day to be a seeded player. Of the 16 total seeded players, only half of them survived into the next round (including both #1 seeds). And happy for Adriana Diaz for taking down Zhu Yuling !
  12. And speaking of #1 seeds falling... Kanak Jha just took down Hugo Calderano in R32!
  13. Yes, 4 weight classes isn't a lot!
  14. WTT Champions Montpellier 2025 - Only 3 Chinese men in the MS competition (and only one of them seeded)...but they all go out in the R32! Additionally, the #1 and #2 seeded women, who are from , also went down! There's still a possibility of an all final because the two Chinese women left are in opposite sides of the bracket (seeded 3 and 6), but we'll see. China didn't send their A-team here for sure.
  15. One thing that I'm finding interesting as I look at historical taekwondo results is how many different NOCs earn medals. So far this year, we've had 26 NOCs earn a medal out of 56 total medals (14 events), and the most golds won by any NOC is 2 (and 4 NOCs have done that). In the past decade or so, it hasn't been the case that one country has dominated. Rewind a few years, and South Korea has traditionally been on top (makes sense), but seems like the rest of the world has risen up. (You see this somewhat in Men's table tennis, where many Europeans are joining the ranks of the Chinese.) I know the TKD coach has a big push to 'dominate' the LA28 games, but with only 2 bronze medals now, there's a long way to go in his mind, I'm sure. Curious to see if there is any marked improvement in our program.
  16. BTW, the U23 WCh just finished: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_U23_World_Wrestling_Championships atop the Men's Freestyle Team leaderboard!
  17. I'm intrigued as to how far ahead USA is in front of China (since we're normally neck and neck). Is that because in some sports (weightlifting, for instance) this year, they didn't send their A-team?
  18. Men's A-Division Finals at the PCCC Gold: Silver: Bronze: Women's A-Division Finals at the PCCC Gold: Silver: Bronze: ( was 4th...lost in EE) Men's B-Division Finals at the PCCC Gold: Silver: Bronze: ( came in 4th...lost in EE) Women's B-Division Finals at the PCCC Gold: Silver: Bronze:
  19. I'd say the medium (forum vs. social media) probably doesn't have as much to do with it. Thinking about other online forums I've been a part of, it wasn't predominantly male or female. Perhaps it is as simple as sports...but it's just curious since a majority of guys in the US (who do care about sports) don't care so much about the Olympics...so it is interesting when you dive into the subset of people who do care deeply about Olympics, it does seem that that population is predominately male.
  20. US Men definitely not as strong as the Women. River Radamus #21 today, the only one in the top 30 (vs. 6 women yesterday). Got Post 2 updated with our results. Home country nabbed two medals, including 1 gold!
  21. Hi all, I've been around a few months now, and one thing that I find interesting is that this is a place to celebrate sport from all over the world. We have all kinds of sports--Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics, non-Olympic, etc.--and sports that are played in different regions of the world. We celebrate women and men athletes. Yet interestingly, most all of the users are male here (49 new male users in the last year vs. 9 new female users; 476 non-newbie male users all-time vs. 22 non-newbie female users). I'm curious as to what you think might cause this difference. I've never considered the Olympics to be something that only appeals to one gender (in fact, I'd say my own mom was more into the Olympics than my dad when I was a kid); however, by simple virtue of it being a sports community, and stereotypically it is guys who are more attracted to sports, perhaps this is the reason? Is it that this community dives deeper, stats, etc., and while the Olympics might appeal to any person on the surface, it's more appealing to guys in general to go into greater depth with sports? (My own wife enjoys sports, and it is she, not I, who played sports in high school, making this a little more curious.) Just an observation I've had. Nothing wrong with the state of it, but just curious!
  22. Ha...most of these were on-demand, so I would just skip to the parts I wanted to watch (like, only watch the last few skaters in the rotation, or, in the case of the gymnastics, skip through the replays, etc. and jump right to the score). Wasn't an all-day marathon. Just highlights, or it was on in the background. But it did feel like an Olympic type of day. I'm a teacher, so I was just home with my own two kids in the day...was grateful for a day at home after a crazy week!
  23. Also, I just learned that this was the fewest number of medals (2) for the US Women at the WCh since 2001.
  24. Today, it was... Alpine Skiing Figure Skating Artistic Gymnastics Just one race of Swimming out of the corner of my eye as the WC event ended Sport Climbing Squash OCR (Obstacle Course WCh, now under Modern Pentathlon) American Football (which is probably the only sport most Americans were watching today) Baseball And checking on Curling scores, as I don't have access to watch it. I did also briefly check on some Taekwondo action, but no Americans made it far today. (No access to Track Cycling, or I'd be watching that.)
