  2. I think it's the tension surrounding the question of the Irish weightlifting quota that has driven the debate on to a slightly less contentious issue. ?

  4. Tourist window. If any of you, dear friends, decide one beautiful day to visit Slovakia, from today we have another interesting stop and offer for you. The Slovak Olympic Museum in Bratislava is officially opening today. The exhibition offers a selection of more than 28,000 items that the museum has managed to colect during its 35-year acquisition activity. At the same time, many of the exhibits on display are unique in global significance and will be seen by the public for the first time. Part of the exhibition space is complemented by rare items from Slovak Paralympic athletes. Each of the presented objects carries a story, supplemented by photo documentation compiled from the museum's photo archive. It contains more than 30,000 photographs. The atmosphere will be complemented by modern audiovisual processing of the top sports performances of Slovak athletes, will present the most important events held in Slovakia in history, as well as the participation of Slovak teams and athletes at the Olympic Games and the Winter Olympic Games. There will also be video profiles of Slovak Olympic medalists, prepared as part of the Virtual Hall of Fame project for Olympians from Slovakia.

  11. mmm if I had to write it in english it would be something like "the check-oh" haha we have a funny guy in our tv that narrates all the games of the team and when Loser scores a great point he sometimes says "why do they call him loser? he's a winner!" (he says winner in english) this guy has many other catch phrases like that when he's narrating games, really wholesome fellow.

  14. Sad news. Martina Dominici has tested positive for a banned substance during the Pan American Championships. She will probably miss Tokyo and lose the medals she earned at the Pan Am Champs. I'll have to check whether will still be able to qualify another gymnast to Tokyo via World Championships. If this is not possible, then I believe Argyro Afrati will qualify to Tokyo because Maria Kharenkova will probably refuse the quota since she's recovering from injury.

  18. Finally got my first dose of vaccine... Have to get this one fast because the center I'm going is bureaucracy free. In (most of) vaccination centers in Indonesia, we have to get a letter from the district head which states that we live in that district. Outsiders must request an extra letter that states this non-resident is cleared to be vaccinated in another district.

  19. According to the qualification document if there are less than two swimmers qualified in an event at trials Swimming Canada will nominate the next best ranked swimmer that has the A standard, and will nominate the best swimmer with the B standard and a FINA invitation in events where Canada doesn't have anyone qualified, as long as they pass a "review for competitive readiness", which is defined as them being reasonably able to match their qualifying time at the Olympics. The document very specifically says will, not may. From my reading of the document the only real discretion is if a swimmer is injured or otherwise no longer in good enough form to hit the standard.

  20. Great swim by Penny. That time would have been good enough for bronze in 2016, so she's definitely getting back to her standard. Liendo's time would get him safely into the final. Great showing by both.

  21. of course they don't, if Taliban had any kind of public support they would enter the election. (but they don't believe in elections. they just want the power) but people also don't fully support the current government. the government is weak and corrupt and didn't improve anything there in past 10 years. that also applies to Afghan troops. lots of them simply run away when they hear that Taliban is coming. they probably think it doesn't worth risking our lives for this government. since we share the same language (well, almost the same) I can read Afghan media (and social media) and it's clear that people are just tired of this endless war. there are lots of people who don't support Taliban but they may prefer Taliban taking the power because at least that means stability. that means you shouldn't be worried about a suicide attack whenever you leave your house. Taliban increased its attacks in past couple of years exactly for that reason, they want to create fear, they killed lots of activists, lots of journalists, lots of famous TV hosts, specially women. but educated people in general are very worried about Taliban. because they know what's next. (specially for women, everybody knows how Taliban thinks of women) I saw lots of people were happy in social media when Biden won the election. they "thought" he will have a different policy and won't give up to Taliban (but unfortunately they were wrong)

  28. Yeah, we can definitely defend much much better than today. be sure Today was just I don´t know total failure, maybe the pressure, maybe the weather, maybe the fatigue fof the whole season, who knows, but today it was not SVK football NT as we know, we are piss poor in attack but we can make a hell of match for everyone by our defence. Yeah, thanks. It looks the group will be interesting and anything can happen a real crazy slavic group as one will say

  30. Congrats. Great match, maybe too much easy than it would deserve at such stage. I am sorry our guys could not deliver their usual play and defence to make the match at least a bit more competitive and entertaining, but it is how it is Good luck in the rest of the tournament.

  31. Somehow we won 5-0 even having Morata in the team. I was expecting a better defense from Slovakia, but the first goal had to be very painful and they didn't recover after that. Croatia will be a totally different game and I am not confident in our chances, but at least we scored some goals today and that should help the team to recover motivation for the rest of the tournament.

  37. Some kind of 'development' events for trans people might be a nice idea. Even just to promote sport among them and make the field strong and big enough to continue the debate on making specific rules for each discipline to make it possible for them to start in main categories. Because still, they should have a right to compete within the strongest field if they meet certain criteria. Also maybe a change in understanding the categories would help, so trans people competing won't be that kind of a taboo. I mean, change "men" and "women" categories to something more inclusive. Like "male-leaning"/" female-leaning". I'm not sure how to call it suitably, but I hope you get the idea. I suppose that would be welcomed by non-binary athletes like Leo Baker.

    [OFF TOPIC] Politics Thread

Afghanistan was always a mess. the world just didn't care. Taliban gained power the moment USA said they want to make a deal with them. there were lots of unbelievable tragedies in past few months, killing pregnant mothers (or those who just gave birth with their babies), suicide bombing at a university, and the last one (which was really really heart breaking) planing a bomb next to a schoolgirl and killing lots of innocent little girls. USA forced the Afghan government to release 5000/6000 of them and they are back in streets killing people and taking towns after towns. without the help of foreign troops, Afghanistan army is going to lose to this war. in probably 3 or 4 years. and the world doesn't care as long as Taliban promises to not have terrorist attacks outside of Afghanistan borders. and one must be very stupid to believe Taliban's promises. I also can't believe those in power in Iran invited these animals and "talked" to them. just because they "think" Taliban is the enemy of our enemy. Taliban itself IS the enemy. enemy of humanity. you can't talk with these guys. you can't make a deal with them. they killed lots of Iranians before, diplomats included. and they will do that again once they regain the full power in Kabul.

  43. Huge kudos to Iran for holding their own. This dual flag bearer idea really just removes individuality of the athletes and reduces them to their gender... It's patronizing and presumptuous. And all that to appease that tiny minority which obsesses over stuff like the exact gender count.
