  1. You probably have no idea how disgusting you sound. It doesn't change the fact that, indeed, you are hateful and this comment is outrageous.

  2. And you deserve to be banned. If you think it's okay to call a woman "he", you're absolutely no different from those nazi and fascist scum who can't respect those who are different from you. Do you think you're advocating for justice for "defending" Stowers? You're just a hateful human being. That's who you are. Do you think you have the right to misgender someone? You're not entitled to anything. Disgusting.

  3. Huge kudos to Iran for holding their own. This dual flag bearer idea really just removes individuality of the athletes and reduces them to their gender... It's patronizing and presumptuous. And all that to appease that tiny minority which obsesses over stuff like the exact gender count.

  4. fortunately Iran didn't go for IOC's "wise" advice. one flagbearer and that will be Samad Nikkhah Bahrami (basketball) and since I'm quite sure some people will start to create some stories from this. Iran had female flagbearers in past 3 big events. (2016 OG, 2018 AG and 2018 WOG) this time was men's turn. beside that we don't have a notable experienced female athlete in our delegation this time. they are all 20-22 or younger. the only possible candidate has her competition few hours after the ceremony. PS: it seems Mojtaba Abedini (Fencing) was the 1st choice but he rejected that since the men's sabre competition will be helf the next day morning.

  6. Quota could have been reallocated to another continent, point is that biological woman is harmed. Not that transwomen should be banned from sports, but from obvious reasons can't compete with biological women If was transmen probably noone would care as men are already superior but with woman is simply not fair.....and it is kind of cheating while entire teams of clean athletes are banned because some of their collegues doped. Just noone care of them as it is not popular for media as superpopular lgbt stuff.

  7. Please stop this madness! I was thinking long and hard about writing this post for a number of days but decided to do it anyway, with view to the Tokyo Olympics and the discussion threads which hopefully will be very active. Simply put, there should be a part of this forum where discussion is restricted to sport related discussion even though politics and/or social activism and sport cannot always be strictly separated. There should be a separate thread (e.g. "Social activism at the 2020 Olympics" or "Social activism at the UEFA Euro 2020" or similar) where these discussions can take place, or (the admittedly toxic) Politics Thread should also be used for that purpose. More often than not, above mentioned political/social discussions have been nothing more than sterile, uproductive mud-slinging, or periodic exposition of each other's views talking past each other. The only result is the ruination of the threads where they occur, potentially causing users who dont want to participate in or even reading such discussions, to avoid the (sport / event related) threads concerned. On a personal note moreover, there are a number of us whose (mostly psychological but sometimes also physical) wellbeing is directly impacted by the political situation in our respective countries, and some of us may not want to read about all this sh*t even on a sport related thread in a sport forum. In this forum in particular, most of similar discussions usually (but not always) involve one particular nick (everyone knows who), versus other people trying to convince him/her, or arguing with him/her. These efforts are more often than not, unproductive, and lead to the aforementioned result. Before anyone starts yelling "censorship" or "cancel culture", I dont want to censor anyone, just propose to have its own topic(s) for this kind of discussion. And during the Olympics, to have the sport/discipline related threads for ontopic posts and not for lengthy discussion about whether is good or not good to speak/otherwise act by athlete X about cause Y, or whether cause Y has or hasn't any merit.

  20. The main issue with all of this is that we don't have enough trans athletes to create more categories besides "Men" and "Women". There's a similar solution to this, but I am afraid trans people would see it as degrading: having them compete at the Paralympics where we have many different categories anyway. The issue with this is that Paralympics is officially for disabled people and being trans isn't a disability. If IOC can rebrand the Paralympics to be for "special" athletes who fall outside of the norm what's considered eligible for the normal Games, maybe it wouldn't be hurtful for trans people to compete there in their own category. Or maybe crate a queer Olympics where trans people can have their own events. That might actually be more fun for them.

  21. I would like to see Brendan Boyce (men's 50km walk) and Natalya Coyle (women's modern pentathlon) given the honour. Both are long serving members of the team and have been quietly doing us proud over many years. For Brendan it will probably be his final Olympics as the men's 50km walk won't be on the programme in Paris 2024 and for Natalya, this could be her last Olympics too... she has been a wonderful servant to the Irish team, finishing 9th at London 2012 and 6th in Rio 2016, a huge achievement for an Irish pentathlete. Those would be my picks if I could make the choice but it would also be cool to see brother-sister boxing duo Aidan and Michaela Walsh. What a moment it would be for them and their family. I also agree with @mpjmcevoy that it would also be lovely to see the captains of the women's hockey team and men's rugby sevens team jointly being given the honour.

But now, the troubles are limiting her. She has A Standart but she said she will decide whether to compete or not at a very last moment based on her health condition..... Hopefully she gets better and will be able to go to Tokyo ??

  29. If Hubbard had not been considered eligible, Charisma Tarrent, the Aussie lifter, would have got a 'World Ranking' place, rather than the Oceania place she has taken. This would have freed up that Oceania place, which as I understand it would have gone to a young Tongan, Nini Manumua. It would be great if we did not conflate transgender inclusion, which is one difficult issue, with inclusion of athletes with rare intersex conditions (e.g. Caster Semenya) which is also difficult, but an entirely separate issue. Caster was born, registered and raised as female. She has always, socially if not biologically, been a woman. While I reluctantly believe WA has come as close as they can to the right answer, Caster deserves nothing but sympathy and support. Hubbard does not have any intersex condition, and was indisputably biologically and socially male from birth, until transition in mid 30's. That transition presumably was necessitated by gender dysphoria, but while IOC have allowed transgender people without full surgery (A much smaller cohort) to compete as women since 2015, we have had three very significant studies since 2019 that pretty much conclusively prove that the biological advantage male puberty creates - about 15% speed, 35% power and strength, and nearly 200% strike force (punching) - is barely reduced even by three years full testosterone suppression. Hubbard may well be playing by the rules as they are, and seems to be entirely genuine in their gender identity, and this is not a personal attack, but the 2015 rules are wrong - even the trans woman whose evidence was used to justify the 2015 rule change, Joanna Harper, basically admitted this year that the science shows that male pubertal advantage largely remains (there was a <5% drop over 3 years where one might expect and require a 30% drop). in other words, Hubbard retains the exact male advantage that is supposed to be eliminated by having female events in the first place. I don't know what the answer is. A third category at the Olympic seems unlikely. a specific Trans (and DSD) category at the Paralympics, for example, seems more plausible, and could be done in a gender affirming way without undermining women. But what has happened here is not sustainable. Far from increasing inclusion and acceptance of trans people, it is causing people who never had an issue with trans people in general to be come angry and resentful. It's actually making things worse. If Hubbard squeezes say Sarah Robles, or Emily Campbell out of a medal, it will become absolutely toxic. My 2c.

  31. So this is the team is apparently sending to the games: 7 athletes: 3 Men's in single: Pablo Carreño, Pablo Andujar, Alejandro Davidovich 4 Women's in singles: Garbiñe Muguruza, Paula Badosa, Sara Sorribes, Carla Suárez Carreño / Davidovich will play men's doubles, while Muguruza/Suárez & Badosa/Sorribes will play the women's singles. The Federation is waiting if #97 men's seed Roberto Carballes can get a quota.

  32. I think that the rules about trans people competing should be adjusted specifically to each and every discipline. There are plenty of different factors that may affect the performance. And I dare to say, that in some events, ftm people could have some kind of advantage too. Still, there is so little trans participants, that organisations just don't care about making those rules. It seems like IOC made that very vague overall rule sticked to only one factor (testosterone) without any further insight. I suppose they may thought that it won't be an issue in the next 15-20 years. And right now it seems like Hubbard and other trans people fall atls the victims of the situation with all the hatred towards them. I feel kinda sorry for her.

  36. Totally understand that, but don't you think they should have this kind of results? 1. It will stop haters 2. It will be fair for letting participate (if this advantage is too big) with points factors for example or maybe it will be diffrent event for trans athletes in Olympic Games For me nowadays this subject is too emotional. It should be more scientific.

  39. If they have a certain big advantage against other competitors, they are doing harm though, don't they? I do not watch weightlifting a lot anymore since you do not know who will be doped and at least 25% of all medal winners will be. So I feel that I am deceived. It is very similar in this case, they are not biologically women, they can have much more testosterone than other athletes. So, they would have huge advantage against others. If we allow this I do not see why we do not allow men who wants to compete in women competitions? What is different between a man who identifies as a woman and a transgender in this sense?

  41. This would need a lot of research, spent hours on it. As I was checking, in many disciplines, there are listed athletes as qualified based on OG standart or enough points athletes that have either doping ban, injury or other reasons. We may expect athletes below the line to be qualified in multiple disciplines. The ranking will close on June 29th ..... And if I am correct, the name list from all the countries must be confirmed up to July 5th ....

    Canada National Thread

June 21st Athletics team update Men's track Men's 100: Andre De Grasse, Bismark Boateng, Gavin Smellie (3 athletes). The latter two are in the bottom 6 ranking quotas. Gavin will be at nationals. Men's 200: Andre De Grasse, Aaron Brown, Brendon Rodney (2 athletes). All three are pretty much locks to qualify. Men's 400: N/A Closest: Philip Osei is 63rd in rankings, will need a time 45.50 sub + another one at nationals to qualify. There is a C level meet in Montreal on the day the qualification period closes, so he will need results at both. He will be nationals, so one would assume he will be here too. Men's 800: Marco Arop, Brandon McBride (2 athletes). Men's 1500: Charles PT needs a win at nationals with a 3:39 sub time to get into a ranking spot. William Paulson is within less than a second from hitting the standard. He wont be at nationals, and not sure about his next race. Kieran Lumb is 3 seconds out too. Men's 5000: Mohammed Ahmed, Justyn Knight, Lucas Bruchet (3 athletes) Men's 10000: Mohammed Ahmed Men's 110m hurdles: N/A, Joseph Daniels, is about 0.4 seconds from hitting the standard. 2016 Olympic finalist Cabral also competing. Men's 400m hurdles: N/A, Malik Metivier, is .38 away from hitting the standard. Men's 3000m steeplechase: Matthew Hughes, John Gay (2 athletes).Ryan Smeeton is within range of qualifying time, won't be at nationals. Jean-Simon Desgagnés is done chasing the time due to quarantine requirements Men's 4x100 relay: Not qualified yet officially, but should. Since 3 are qualified in the individual event, +Brown and Rodney. Total: 12, up to 19 can qualify atm. Women's track Women's 100: Crystal Emmanuel (1 athlete). Khamica Bingham was 0.01 from the standard earlier this season. Both will be at nationals. Women's 200: Crystal Emmanuel Women's 400: Kyra Constantine, Natassha McDonald (2 athletes) Women's 800: Melissa Bishop, Lindsey Butterworth, Madeleine Kelly (3 athletes). Kelly is 45 out of 48, but nationals will give her lots of points if she is in top3 Women's 1500: Gabriela Stafford, Natalia Hawthorn, Lucia Stafford (3 athletes) Women's 5000: Andrea Seccafien, Julie-Anne Staehli, Kate Van Buskirk (3 athletes). Women's 10000: Andrea Seccafien. Women's 100m hurdles: N/A. Michelle Harrison and Mariam Abdul Rashid .27 away from the standard Women's 400m hurdles: Sage Watson (1 athlete). Noelle Montcalm 7 spots out of qualifying through the WR. However, she is the top seed at nationals, and with a win and a good time (in the 56 second range), should get her into a qualifying spot Women's 3000m steeplechase: Geneviève Lalonde, Regan Yee (2 athletes). Butterworth and Prouse seconds from hitting the standard (so is Yee). I think one of the two will definitely make it. Women's 4x400 relay: 2 more athletes will be named to join the individual qualifiers + Watson. Looks like the 4x100 relay is out. Total: 17, up to 22 can qualify atm Road events: Men's marathon: Ben Preisner, Cameron Levins, Trevor Hofbauer Men's 50km race walk: Evan Dunfee, Mathieu Bilodeau Women's marathon: Malindi Elmore, Dayna Pidhoresky, Natasha Wodak No one qualified in 20km race walk for either gender. Total: 8 athletes. Men's field/Multis Men's high jump: Michael Mason (1 athlete). Derek Drouin looks okay, but not near the standard he will need to qualify. Django Lovett is one spot out of qualification. A strong result at nationals will move him back into a qualification spot Men's long jump: Warner has withdrawn, and won't compete. Men's shot put: Tim Nedow (1 athlete) Men's discus throw: Jordan Young just out of a ranking quota, and less than 2 meters from standard. ATP, a win at nationals and a PB won't be enough. He needs the standard.. Men's hammer: Adam Keenan just out of a ranking quota, and less than 3 meters from standard. A win at nationals with a 74 m+ throw will put him into a WR spot. Men's decathlon: Damian Warner, Pierce Lepage (2 athletes). Taylor Ehrhardt will need a PB in almost all events to qualify, needs the standard. Total: 4, could be up to 9 Women's field/Multis Women's long jump: Christabel Nettey (1 athlete) Women's pole vault: Alysha Newman, Anicka Newell (2 athletes) Women's shot put: Sarah Mitton, Brittney Crew (2 athletes) Women's javelin: Liz Gleadle (1 athlete) Women's discus throw: Trinity Tutti, Rachel Andres are outside qualification but a few metres from the standard, cannot qualify through WR Women's hammer: Camryn Rogers, Jillian Weir (2 athletes) Women's heptathlon: Georgia Ellenwood, should be in the top 24 when the rankings are released (1 athlete) Total: 9, could be up to 11 A mixed relay will be held at nationals, so room to add 2 men in the 400 is also possible. So as of this moment Canada has 50 athletes. Up to 71 athletes can qualify. Will be an intense last week of qualification!

Pickrem wasn't tapered for this meet per her post-race interview, she's going to be really strong by the Olympics. It was a heart warming story to see Hayden and Liendo qualify for the same event. I was feeling a little frustrated yesterday after yesterday's results but today was more reassuring.
