  3. It's still very hard to predict at this point. First, we don't know if Eleftherios Petrounias will qualify. If he does, he will probably be Olympic champion again. Second, if Petrounias qualifies, we still need to know if Liu Yang for will be part of the team or if he will be given the individual quota. Third, we also need to know if You Hao will make the Chinese team. Then the plot thickens: Zanetti has not competed in a long time. Lodadio has been missing in action too. Çolak has not been doing well, but Asil is on fire. Then there are those gymnasts who could surprise and score huge like Souza, Klessing, Radivilov, Nagornyy and Ablyazin. If you ask me now, I'd say Said will not win a medal, but it's too close to tell and depending on who qualifies, he might have a better chance. The best case scenario is Liu Yang qualifying while Petrounias and Hao somehow miss qualifications.

  4. Well this was a really fun experience! I think my biggest surprise was seeing the anthems being played with the lyrics on the tv, karaoke style. also they play the official music of the playing countries, but they did not played the Dutch one, I guess they don’t have one (although I was really hopping they would play “Wij zijn oranje” by andres hazes)

  5. Man this was as sure a thing as the milk is white. If it was available to bet who sill skip the Olympics, I would certainly put at least a hundred on Thiem

  7. He underwent surgery at the beginning of the year. He didn't race at all this year, as far as I know, he bet everything on the national championship, which will be just before the qualifying deadline the 27th June. But I have no idea what form he will be in and what performance he is ready to achieve since he did not compete at all this year. The sure thing is however, he will definitely win the national championship (if he starts ofc) becuase logically in Slovakia there is no one who can beat him. So he will get the points for the national championship, but now the question is what will be the performance he will achieve and thus the eventual point bonus to the ranking.

  9. team landed in Bulgaria for the upcoming 2nd European League, with the goal to avoid the (I fear the inevitable) relegation together with the DSQ to the lowest 3rd division. Since we will compete without many our lead athletes skipping this event like Ján Volko M 100m/200m&4x100m or Tomáš Veszelka Triple Jump, also has been decided that Emma Zapletalová already qualified in the 400 hurdles will run only the 400m here and let the 400m Hurdles to Ledecká whom is still fighting for points to the Olympic ranking The chance to stay in this division are rather in theoretical levels One surprise is however the return of Lucia Klocová in W 1500m called from retirement just for this championship because we had nobody to send in this discipline lol

  15. Holstein, Rawlins and Connor are qualified. They are enough to form a team, but I have no idea why the Irish selector did not mention Connor in a recent interview. Merveldt can perhaps jump back if her horse shows improvement within the next couple of weeks.

  18. Agreed, 12 relays per event would be more than enough. Overall the relays aren’t really competitive, especially on the women’s side where there will be 4 medal contenders at best in all events.

  21. After the final stage of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series they will have no excuse not to publish everything. If I'm right, they will probably publish it on June 28, along with the official tripartite invitations. The only one we don't know about, actually, is in women's artistic gymnastics. There will be no tripartite invitations in trampoline.

  22. Ideally they'd get rid of Olympic tennis all the way and use the quotas to make existing sports better and more competitive

  23. They really need to start giving ranking points in tennis again. Ideally, it should be a 1000 level tournament, but even a 500 level would probably stop the majority of withdrawals.

  27. 2 covid positive tests in team after yesterday testing... 1 Player (Denis Vavro) and 1 Team staff member (name not revealed) had positive tests during yesterday mandatory PCR testing session 48 hours before the match. Vavro (who was still unlikely to play) and the team staff member were immediately send to isolation, the rest of the team will have another testing today. From our bubble also the team bus driver is positive, not sure enough now if the virus came from him though

  31. So I just got an email from World Athletics in response to my question if unqualified athletes impact the 56 athlete quota in the men’s 100m and it’s as I suspected, they don’t impact the quota for that event: Not sure what the case is for the other events.

  32. Aaaaand it's gone. Did you or anyone happen to save this zip file? Looking for it for my own schedule (which is more detailed than the official one but not so detailed as to have entries for every fight in things like judo or tennis early rounds ). So far I've been using the absolutely excellent day-to-day schedule thread on Totallympics (which I can't compliment enough, it's seriously good!), but it would be helpful if there exists one either on a sport-by-sport basis or where one can use Ctrl + F to search for the sports name Edit: Never mind, I tried changing the link to June and it didn't work neither, but they do have one for May ('Mai') online

  34. Too many relay races with too many teams? Poland for example qualified 6 relays, and like none of them has a chance of making the final? IMO, both swimming relays and synchronized diving events should have 12 teams. Or at the very least 14 and 10.

  37. It’s not that fair as it looks. it’s humanitarian but not fairness. For example, I lost in semi final but my opponent found COVID positive after that so I advance in final. And then I cherish this opportunity a lot, I defeated my opponent in final so I am the champion. To conclude I lost semifinal but I am the champion just because my opponent got a specific virus called COVID. But if he withdrew due to diarrhea then it’s a another story.

  39. Watching live competition from Osijek World Cup at the national television is a sad, sob story... And always the same thing. The commentators are cheering for every mistake of the home athletes' opponents. It's like they got their commentating degree in Pyongyang.

  40. Cruel. Collins misses out by 0.4%. Multiple costly mistakes (first extension, first passage, zig-zag, one tempis). End of the dream for Bermuda. Venezuela or (probably) Chile it is.
