  1. Er, United States lost a 2006 World Championship semifinals game versus Russia.
  2. I wonder if 3-vs-3 beach voiley would be a better show than the current 2-vs-2.
  3. Taiwanese taewkondist Su Po Ya has been a meme in Spanish social media, since "su polla" it means "his penis".
  4. Claro Sports / Marca Claro has the rights in Hispanic America. I'm pretty sure that the journalists will give little attention to non-Mexicans. Here in Uruguay, local rights were sublicensed to Channel 5 TNU (public broadcaster) and VTV (cable channel that has Uruguayan football and basketball). I expect them to have a few football journalists plus a few journalists with no sports knowledge at all.
  5. I expect no medal, but maybe we get lucky in sailing, rowing or long jump.
  6. ¡Buena suerte, vecinos!
  7. Rowers Cetraro/Klüver will be the first Uruguayans to compete at Tokio. Full calendar: https://twitter.com/faltaunoradio/status/1417557818941521931
  8. In my opinion, drivers should be punished for squeezing the rival off the track if they are on par.
  9. Crazy idea 1 for cricket: make teams swap roles every 4 overs. Crazy idea 2 for cricket: make the boundary a very tall net around the field, and do not stop the play when the ball touches it.
  10. Uruguay defeated Chile, and Chile defeated Brazil. On Sunday it's Uruguay vs Brazil.
  11. Actually, Canada last played in 2000, and Turkey in 1952! Also Italy was silver in 2004. Anyway, I still don't like that 6 out of 12 teams are European.
  12. Hamilton didn't exactly rammed Verstappen a la Schumacher . But neither did he approached the corner's apex. - o - So now FIA claims that there's a longtime policy of judging only actions and not results. I agree that only intentional moves should be penalized. However, I think that if someone is determined to have caused an avoidable contact, then the penalty should also consider the effect of the move.
  13. Brazil defeated Paraguay and advanced to the next phase. Colombia had too many Covid-19 cases in the squad, and lost to Chile by walkover. Brazil, Chile and Uruguay will play each other from July 11-25. United States and Canada will play each other on October 4-11.
  14. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Rugby_World_Cup_qualifying
  15. I missed today's race because half of the season is available only on Star Action, part of the expensive Star Premium package, and there's better racing elsewhere.
  16. Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay qualified for South America. Awful performance by Argentina.
  17. Another ugly Uruguayan trivia: we didn't host any international basketball between 2003 and 2017.
  18. María Pía Fernández did 4'11.44 at the 1500 m run at the Madrid meet of the World Continental Tour, and climnbed to first on the South America rankings.
  19. Nicole Frank and Enzo Martínez are the two swimmers qualified to the Tokio Olympics, both on universality quota.
  20. The 2018 World Cup had 28 national teams, including 14 from Europe, 8 from Asia-Pacific, 4 from the Americas, and 2 from Africa. United States had Matt Kuchar and Kyle Stanley, England had Tyrrell Hatton and Ian Poulter.
  21. In athletics, two national records were crushed. Déborah Rodríguez won the 800 m run at the Geneva round of the World Continental Athletic Tour with 2'00.20. Santiago Catrofe won the 1500 m run at Nice with 3'35.82.
  22. Open waters swimmers Maximiliano Paccot and Felipe López will enter the Olympic qualifier in Portugal. Julio César Maglione was named FINA Honorary Life President.
  23. Victor Rostagno, a 22-year-old, was fourth at the vault event at the Pan American Artistic Gymnastics, with 13.650 points. Judokas Mikael Aprahamian and Rodrigo Gamou lost in first round of the World Championships. Aprahamian is waiting for the rankings update, as he might qualify to the Olympics on the continental quota.
  24. Alba Berlin won the Bundesliga, and Uruguayan player Jayson Granger was the Finals MVP.
