  1. This week it's the Uruguay Open, an ATP Challenger Tour tennis tournament. I may attend tonight. Next week it's the Montevideo Open, a WTA 125k tournament. On Friday and Saturday it's the Torneo Valentín Martínez, a multi-sport tournament held at Carrasco Polo that will feature the South American Rugby Women's Sevens. And this weekend it's also the Rutas de América women's cycling stage race.
  2. Great performances at the South American Youth Aquatics Championships: Clara de León got the gold medal in solo artistic swimming with 152.3926. Nicole Frank broke the 200 m backstroke women's U18 national record with 2'22.68. She also got the silver medal in 200 m medley. Luna Chabat broke the 50 m butterfly women's U18 national record with 28'35. Micaela Sierra got the bronze medal in 100 m breaststroke. Frank, Chabat, Sierra and Catalina Sofía Gómez broke the 4x100 freestyle women's U18 national record with 3'59.62. Diego Sebastián Aranda, Juan Ignacio Saint-Upery, Guillermo Kalvermater and Mateo Gómez broke the 4x100 freestyle men's U15 national record with 3'46.90. Leandro Recoba broke the 200 m backstroke men's U15 national record with 2'12.61.
  3. Olympics swimmer Enzo Martínez has retired from high performance at the age of 27.
  4. I recall having read that COTA would lose government subsidies if there was a second race in the country. It seems that it's not a blocker.
  5. Boxing loves to have too many weight classes. In my opinion the gaps should be not smaller than 8%.
  6. In rugby, Los Teros defeated United States, and qualified to the 2023 World Cup. In football, the men's team drew Colombia and lost 3-0 to Argentina. Brazil is next. In handball, the women 's team finished 4th at the South and Central American Championship. Only the top 3 qualified, and out team drew 3rd and 5th place finishers Paraguay and Chile. In swimming, the men's under-18 waterpolo team is selling lottery tickets to fund their travel to the South American championship. One wonders what's the continental and world federations spending their budget on.
  7. Thanks! I attended the match, here's my photos. Unfortunately, the other Uruguayans abroad had no luck this weekend.
  8. The South and Central America Women's Handball Championship was held in Paraguay. Brazil (5 wins, 0 losses) Argentina (4 wins, 1 loss) Paraguay (2 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses) Uruguay (1 win, 2 draws, 2 losses) Chile (1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses) Bolivia (5 losses) Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay qualified to the 2021 World Cup. Uruguay was needing 1 goal to qualify, Chile was needing 4 goals.
  9. The Women's World Series will also have just two rounds in Canada. And there will be just four teams: Canada, United States, Great Britain and France.
  10. The Men's World Series will have just two rounds in Canada. The other rounds were cancelled. Fiji, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina will not enter. There will be a single Great Britain team.
  11. Manny Pacquiao was defeated by unanimous decision by Yordenis Ugás. The Cuban is now the 3rd welterweight contender in the world by the TBRB. Today in Leeds, England: Mauricio Lara vs Josh Warrington (featherweight) Katie Taylor vs. Jennifer Han (lightweight)
  12. Charrúa Awards nominees: https://www.cpdu.org.uy/destacados/premios-charrua-2/ Curiously, the Tokyo Olympics are not included...
  13. Even the final was lopsided, with Untied States defeating Canada by 118-46...
  14. Both Williams cars crashed in qualifying. Latifi's was quite hard.
  15. Olympic refugee boxer Eldric Sella was refused return to Trinidad and Tobago, so he was welcome to Uruguay. https://www.elpais.com.uy/informacion/politica/eldric-sella-deportista-venezolano-refugiado-uruguay.html
  16. "AmeriCup" is a stupid name. Why don't just call it Americas Cup or Pan-American Cup?
  17. "Thirty-million cricket fans live in the USA" That's obviously not even remotely true.
  18. I suggest having a Iberoamerican forum, for all Spanish and Portuguese speaking sports fans.
  19. Mind that men's volleyball isn't exactly massively popular in France, where basketball and handball are more popular.
  20. (El saltador largo Emiliano Lasa estuvo a 1 cm de avanzar a la final...) Los de voleibol lograron el bronce, ¡felicitaciones!
  21. Fun fact: Spain last got gold medals on collective sports (no duos or trios) in Atlanta 1996.
  22. We got "lucky" in rowing, just unlucky in long jump, and just didn't perform in sailing.
  23. Argentina vs Brazil will be thrilling.
  24. Hay clásico sudamericano de voleibol masculino por el bronce.
