  1. At the South American Youth Games, Uruguay got a gold medal in men's 3x3 basketball, defeating Argentina in the final by 18-14.   2. In athletics, Emiliano Lasa won the Brasil International Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, improving his national record in long jump to 8.28 meters. Therefore he qualified to the upcoming World Championship, and ranks second best in the season.

  4. In karate, Maximiliano Larrosa won the USA Open at Las Vegas in the under 60kg class. Nicolás Deandre was silver in under 53 kg, and Agustín Barrios was bronze in junior. In rowing, Marcos Sarraute and Romina Cetraro got earned a combined five gold medals at the Coastal Americas Cup held in Lima. In swimming, Nicole Frank won four gold medals and one sivler medal at the Puerto Rico Open. She did 2'34.11 at 200 m breaststroke, 1:12.59 at 100 m beaststroke, 33.10 at 50 m breaststroke, 4'57.92 at 400 m medley, and 2'19.52 at 200 m medley. In athletics, the National Championship was held in Montevideo. Manuela Rotundo, a 17-year-old, broke the javelin throw national record with 53.87 m. Lautaro Techera also broke the javelin throw national record with 70.67 m.
  5. In basketball, Biguá defeated Argentine teams Boca Juniors and Quimsa to reach the final of the Champions League Americas, where they lost to Sao Paulo 98-84. It's the best result ever for a Uruguayan team in the competition. Also in basketball, the under-18 women's national team lost to Brazil and Colombia, so they ranked fourth. It's also their best result ever.
  6. In field hockey, the Cimarroncitas lost to Malaysia and defeated Canada and Wales to rank 13rd. In rugby, Peñarol defeated Selknam 31-3 (the Chilean team had several top players missing). In motorsport, Maite Cáceres debuted at the F4 United States. She was rather slow, so let's hope she progresses every race. In cycling, the Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay is underway.
  7. In field hockey, the Cimarroncitas got their first win ever at the Women's Junior World Cup with a 1-0 win over Austria. They also lost to South Korea 1-0 and Argentina 4-0. Tomorrow they play Malaysia in the 9th place bracket.
  8. In para-cycling, Pablo Rosso was bronze at the South American Championship in 1 km time trial. In amputee football, the national team finished runner-up at the South American Championship with four wins and two draws, so they qualified to the World Cup.
  9. In rowing, the national team collected 6 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronzes at the South American U23 and Junior Championship. In equestrian, Carolin Mallmann won the Prix Saint George. In athletics, Emiliano Lasa finished 6th in long jump at the World Indoor Championship with 7.99 m. Also, Manuela Rotundo got the javelin national record at the Grand Prix Darwin Piñeyrúa and Estrellita Puente held in Montevideo (I couldn't attend). The 17-year-old girl did 53.41 m.
  10. It's beyond midnight and the drivers are still locked down in a meeting room at the racrtrack, presumably discussing if and how to boycott the race.

  14. Governments from 37 countries asked sports federations to ban Russian athletes from all international competitions.   16. Nicaraguan boxer Román "Chocolatito" González defeated Mexican rival Julio César Martínez by a solid unanimous decision, and extended his career record to 51-3. Mexican icon Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez was set to fight Russian light heavyweight fighter Dmitry Bivol (19-0) at Las Vegas, but the worldwide boycott to Russia could block it.
  17. In tennis, the Uruguayan men's team lost 3-1 versus New Zealand at the Davis Cup World Group 1. The big problem was that the matches were not televised at all in Uruguay
  18. Meanwhile, the South American Women's Under-17 Football Championship continues the group phase.
  19. In cycling, Jorge Giacinti (a 47-year-old Argentine) won the Rutas de América. Runner-up was Agustín Moreira, also from the Cerro Largo team. In swimming, Nicole Frank and Micaela Sierra got multiple medals at the Piranhas Senior Invitational. Frank improved her national record in 400 m medley with 4'56.59. In football and basketball, the referee associations suspended they activities for repetitive \insults and threats from the crowd and team executives.
  20. If international federations start banning national federations because of their national governments, there will be few countries left in world cups. The South African boycott was different, because the national federation itself was racist.
  21. Uruguay lost to Brazil and won over Chile, both away. As we love to say, "we still have mathematical chances" to qualify.
  22. At the Sevilla Marathon, Nicolás Cuestas broke the men's national record with 2:11'03. Andrés Zamora did 2:11'26, so both runners qualified to the World Championship in August. At the South American Indoor Championships is closing today. Deborah Rodríguez won gold in 800 m with 2'18.23. Emiliano Lasa was silver in long jump with 8.10 m. Lorena Aires could not do above 1.70 m and ranked fourth. María Pía Fernández missed for coronavirus. Also in athletics, Santiago Catrofe wn the 3000 m in the Sabadell indoor meeting with 7'50.03, the second best South American mark ever, and just missing the mark for the Indoor World Championship. Meanwhile in basketball, Argentine-born and current Biguá player Diego Pena García has been authorized by FIBA to play for the Uruguay national team.
  23. In rugby, the Teros are planning two test matches versus Japan abroad in late June and two matches at home in early July versus European tier 2 teams (as Scotland refused to cross the river). Rivals for the November tests are still open.
  24. In athletics... Santiago Catrofe got the national record in 3000 meters indoor at the Catalonia Meeting with 7'54.36. The South American Indoor Championships will feature Deborah Rodríguez, Emiliano Lasa, Lorena Aires and María Pía Fernández. Fernández signed with Peñarol. Today it's the Doble San Antonio, the iconic road race in Piriápolis up and down the San Antonio hill.
  25. In futsal, Uruguay defeated Venezuela on penalty shootouts 7-6 after a 1-1 in regular time, and finished 5th at the Copa América. In athletics, Emiliano Lasa won at Bragança Paulista with a best long jump of 8,11 m.
