  15. At the Rowing World Championship in Shanghai: Felipe Klüver got the gold medal in lightweight singles with 6'54.10 and qualified to the final, where he had a poor performance and finished 6th. 17. In athletics, Julia Paternain finished third at the World Championship marathon in Tokyo with 2'27.23. She was born in Mexico, was raised in Britain, and currently lives in the United States. But both her parents are Uruguayan, and when she realized she got a medal, she shook her shirt and shouted "¡Uruguay nomás!" - therefore she is a certified Uruguayan
  18. In rugby union, the Teros claimed wins over Paraguay 116-10 and Chile 46-37 (both on home-and-away aggregate), and qualified to the 2027 World Cup. In tennis, the Davis Cup team lost to Slovenia 4-0, and will play the World Group 2 playoffs next year.
  19. Indeed. The Pista Oficial Darwiñ Pineyrúa in Montevideo was closed for two full years to get a new track surface. All basketball club "arenas" except Biguá lack floor heating, so they can't be used when it rains. The federation currently doesn't have a training center. Uruguay doesn't have a single FINA swimming pool - even though Maglione was the FINA president for decades.
  20. Because football dominates the interest of the public, media and politicians.

  23. The Uruguay women's team had last defeated Chile in 2016, and had last finished in the podium in 2003.
  24. Uruguayan basketball is absolutely pathetic. There's only two professional clubs outside Montevideo (Urupan and Lagomar). Most professional clubs don't have a proper youth team, and spend the benefactor (likely laundering) budget in paying returnees and foreign players. Coaches are completely outdated. All club "arenas" except Biguá lack floor heating, so they can't be used when it rains. The federation currently doesn't have a training center. Ticket sales are minimal except for playoffs. The Antel Arena holds barely any matches, as rental is about US$ 40,000 per day, four times as much as the Estadio Centenario charges football clubs. Worst of all, barra bravas are more violent than ever, to the point that Nacional and Peñarol ultras banned from football find a second home in basketball.
