  4. Once again, the FIba AmeriCup aired exclusively on DirecTV, which most Uruguayans don't have, including myself.
  5. World Rugby annoucned today the new SVNS format for 2025/26: https://www.svns.com/en/news/999470/world-rugby-unveils-evolved-svns-model Division 1 will have just 8 teams with 6 tournaments, and Division 2 will have 6 teams with just 3 tournaments. The top 4 teams will advance to the playoffs together with the 8 Division 1 teams. Division 3 will be a single tournament with 8 teams, where the two finalists will advance to Division 2. The 2025 Los Angeles repechage tournament will determine which four teams will play Division 2. The other four teams will play the continental qualifiers for Division 3. I love that they didn't bother to explain what the hell will happen at the end of the season, because the answer is probably the end of the SVNS. And by love I mean hate.
  6. Here's the official broadcasts of the Pan American Road Championships: Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

The men's national team lost to Ecuador at the Davis Cup, with is unsurprising.

  15. More results at the Paris Olympics: In sailing: Hernán Umpierre and Fernando Diz finished 8th at the 49er medal race, as they were penalized for crossing the starting line a few seconds too early. The duo finished 10th in the overall classification. Lola Moreira finished 22nd in ILCA 6. She is considering moving to a lighter class. 16. The fully Swiss format is awful, as Heywoody says. I would prefer a 4-vs-4 cross-pool format. But adding more matches at the group phase is a big problem too, the calendar was already too congested.
  17. Some say that Kim Jong Un made 18 holes in one on his first attempt...
  18. The Charrúa Awards have announced the nominees in 64 categories: https://www.cpdu.org.uy/destacados/51a-edicion-premios-charrua/ There's split categories for men's and women's in 8 disciplines: athletics, basketball, cycling, football, futsal, handball, rowing and swimming. The ceremony will be held on September 23 at the Auditorio Nelly Goitiño.
  19. I disagree, Olympic rugby sevens is thrilling to watch. Rugby sevens is organized in tournaments (like tennis and motorsport), very differently from the typical 2-hour team sport. That's not a disadvantage, much less a problem. United States is excellent in lots of unpopular sports, thanks to the state-funded college system. So the situation of rugby sevens is hardly unusual. Yes, and I agree with that.
  20. Uruguay's chances dropped significantly, as rower Bruno Cetraro ran out of steam in single scull semifinals.
  21. It's never easy to do a strong partnership between a successful sports competition and a successful sports game. Fifa and Electronic Arts had it, and it went away. F1 and Codemasters (now part of EA) has it. The Olympics, Nintendo and Sega was a strong partnership. Dropping it to chase NFTs is so stupid.
  22. In rugby union, the men's national team lost to Scotland 31 - 19, with a pretty good performance. Here's my photos. In sailing, Fernando Diz and Hernán Umpierre qualified to the Olympics men's 49er final. The were fighting for the lead when it was suspended for lack of wind, and later it was suspended a second time. In judo, Mikael Aprahamian lost in first round of the Olympics to Takanori Nagase. In swimming, Leo Nolles did 50.58 s in the Olympic men's 100 m freestyle. In rowing, Bruno Cetraro ran out of steam in the Olympic single scull semifinals, and qualified to the B final.
  23. In rugby sevens, the men's national team finished 11st at the Olympics. In rowing, Bruno Cetraro qualified to the Olympic semifinals in single scull. In sailing, Fernando Diz and Hernán Umpierre are in medal race positions at men's 49ers.
  24. The Teros just made too many ball handling errors. At least the France match was close. As for rules, the boring part of sevens is that a good sprinter can beat a team of good but not so fast players. I have seen a few rugby 10s matches and I enjoy them more than sevens. Players need good teamwork to advance, yet it's much faster than 15s. However, I've been told by a Uruguayan female players that rugby 10 is much more prone to injuries than sevens.
