  1. It seems that the European courts have adopted the American market-first criteria.
  2. For years, South Africa refused Olympic sports for teams qualified on continental or repechage sports. If they win the men's repechage, they will sure revert that policy.
  3. In judo, Henry Borges won the J1 60 kg event at the IBSA Tokyo Grand Prix, after defeating Mohamed Ben Ismail, Sukhbat Bayasgalan, Vitoon Kongsuk and Abdelkader Bouamer. Now he's 5th in the world rankings. In futsal, the men's team was runner-up at the AMF World Cup, as they defeated the United States 8-1 in quarter-finals, COlombia by penalty shootout in semifinals, and lost to Paraguay 6-1 in the final. In athletics, the national team claimed 29 gold medals at the South American Masters, placing 5th. in boxing, Gabriela Bouvier defeated Agustina Rojas at Punta del Este, and Maira Moneo defeated Lizbeth Crespo at the Luna Park in Buenos Aires.
  4. So the 2025 men's and women's world championships will have 32 teams: the defending champions, the top 3 teams from the 5 continental championships held in 2023, and the 15 next teams in the world rankings. As I've mentioned many times, I think that world rankings should be used for seeding, never for qualifying. But the big problem is that most teams won't play a single match next year, so they can't climb up...
  5. Some motorsports intros: Turismo Carretera on Carburando (2008) TUrismo Carretera on Carburando (2009) Turismo Competición 2000 on Carburando (2009) Formula 1 on Sky Sports UK (2012) Formula 1 (2018) Formula 1 (2019)
  6. Some Uruguayan sports ads: Schneck (hamburger and hot dogs) Nuevo Siglo (cable TV) El Chaná (coffe) - part 1 Part 2:
  7. The AMF Futsal World Cup is underway in Baja California, México.
  8. In football, the men's team defeated Argentina 2-0 and Bolivia 3-0. Most Uruguayan sports journalists hate Bielsa, so now they don't mention him and instead praise the players.
  9. At the Para Pan American Games, the Uruguayan team won two medals: Carmelo Milán got a silver medal in R4 air rifle shooting, and Henry Borges got a bronze medal in J1 60 kg judo. In sailing, Federico Waksman won the Mini Transat, a 6,000 km solo yacht race that crosses the Atlantic Ocean. In surfing, Julián Schweizer won the ALAS Tour at El Salvador. In athletics, Martín Cuestas won the San Felipe y Santiago, the premier 10 km road race in Montevideo, with 30'49. Carolina Lozano from Argentina won the women's race with 35'39. In futsal, the men's team won its group at the AMF World Cup with wins against Mexico, Canada and Bolivia. Tomorrow they will play quarter-finals against the United States.
  10. It's stupid that the 12 playoffs teams are selected with results of the UNL instead of the UEFA Euro qualifiers, which were played later.
  11. I missed most of the match, for tiredness rather than sleep. I'd rather see home matches at 20:00 local.
  12. I started uploading my photos. Women's sevens: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Rugby_sevens_at_the_2023_Pan_American_Games_-_Women's_tournament Field hockey: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Field_hockey_at_the_2023_Pan_American_Games
  13. Fails at the 2023 Pan American Games: In athletics, the women's 20 km walk was actually held over 17 km, so all times were annulled. https://www.bbc.com/sport/athletics/67258758 - o - In taekwondo, the Giulia Sendra vs Sara Grippoli repechage match was suspended after the first round. Grippoli actually had already qualified for the bronze match. https://www.tycsports.com/polideportivo/el-insolito-motivo-que-adelanto-la-pelea-de-guzman-por-la-dorada-id542795.html - o - In rugby sevens, the Canadians scored an invalid try at the gold medal match against the United States, and the referee ignored the protests by the Americans. After a lineout, the Canadians attempted to form a maul, but no American player engaged, so they kept advancing until it was too late. They should have been penalized for obstruction.

  18. On Friday I found that the closest metro station to La Pintana was 5 km away from it... I went by taxi. It didn't accept cards, and I had no pesos, so I overpaid in dollars. I returned on bus with no issues. The stadium is next to three car junkyards (like the Peter Capusotto meme). However the Carabineros kept the place safe. The Teros won both Saturday matches, though they had already missed the semifinals. Anyway, I certainly enjoyed it more than the field hockey.
  19. Hi folks! Here I'm at Santiago de Chile. I've been to athletics, gymnastics and field hockey. Sadly I saw not a single Uruguayan competitor. The Estadio Nacional has a white coat of paint, but is otherwise in bad shape. The rhythmic gymnastics venue looks pretty, but accessibility is bad and there were roof leaks. The field hockey field is fine. However I missed a full quarter of Arg-Can trying to buy two drinks, as the venue had just two payment machines and one didn't work - it would have been much faster to walk 150m to the fan zone and return. After I got the drinks, the main grandstand was full. I walked to the north stands, where the net made it impossible to take photos. On top of that, a rather rude volunteer didn't let me take photos from the corner, despite being 5m above the field. Nothing unexpected I guess. Let's cross finger for tomorrow at La Pintana...
  20. So no terrestrial or cable TV coverage in Uruguay?

  23. In futsal, the women's national team competed at the Copa América. At the group phase, they claimed two wins against Chile 1-0 and Peru 10-5, and two losses against Argentina 4-0, Colombia 2-0. They lost the 5th place match against Paraguay 5-2.
  24. In rugby union, the Teros defeated Namibia 36-26 and was crushed by New Zealand's All Blacks 73-0. So they ranked fourth in the group, which was expected but not the desired goal.
