Also in athletics, Santiago Catrofe wn the 3000 m in the Sabadell indoor meeting with 7'50.03, the second best South American mark ever, and just missing the mark for the Indoor World Championship. Meanwhile in basketball, Argentine-born and current Biguá player Diego Pena García has been authorized by FIBA to play for the Uruguay national team.
  14. In rugby, the Teros are planning two test matches versus Japan abroad in late June and two matches at home in early July versus European tier 2 teams (as Scotland refused to cross the river). Rivals for the November tests are still open.
  15. In athletics... Santiago Catrofe got the national record in 3000 meters indoor at the Catalonia Meeting with 7'54.36. The South American Indoor Championships will feature Deborah Rodríguez, Emiliano Lasa, Lorena Aires and María Pía Fernández. Fernández signed with Peñarol. Today it's the Doble San Antonio, the iconic road race in Piriápolis up and down the San Antonio hill.
  16. In futsal, Uruguay defeated Venezuela on penalty shootouts 7-6 after a 1-1 in regular time, and finished 5th at the Copa América. In athletics, Emiliano Lasa won at Bragança Paulista with a best long jump of 8,11 m.
  17. At the Copa América Futsal, Uruguay also lost to Brazil 2-0, and defeated Chile 2-0 and Ecuador 6-0. The team finished third in the group, and will play Venezuela for 5th place. In sailing, Uruguay's national team for the SSL Gold Cup (in June) will have Ricardo Fabini as captain, and sailors including Pablo Defazio, Dominique Knüppel, Hernán Umpierre and Fernando Diz.

  19. The 24 Hours of Daytona were claimed by the Meyer Shank Acura, with drivers Tom Blomqvist, Oliver Jarvis, Simon Pagenaud and Hélio Castroneves. The LMP2 winner was DragonSpeed with drivers Devlin DeFrancesco, Eric Lux, Colton Herta and Pato O'Ward. The GTD Pro winner was the Pfaff Porsche with drivers Matt Campbell, Mathieu Jaminet and Felipe Nasr.

  22. The Copa América Futsal is underway. Uruguay lost the first match against Colombia 4-0. Emiliano Lasa did a 8.18 m long jump at the Sao Paulo Summer Tournament to claim the gold medal. Santiago Catrofe was third at the Spanish Cross Country Running Championship with a 28'28 at the 10 km race.
  23. Uruguay finished fourth at the South and Central American Men's Handball Championship. The team defeated Bolivia 42-9, and lost the remaining matches with Argentina 43-18, Brazil 48-20, and Chile 29-21.
