I have watched a few matches of the Women's World Cup, and I'm not enjoying the gameplay as much as I could. First of all, there's too few goals. Out of the first 40 matches, the average score was 2.7 - 0.7. The lost didn't score any goal in 17 matches, and there was one 0-0 draw. In addition, most goals are from set plays. Only 54 out of 137 goals were field goals (39%). I think that field hockey needs some rules changes to increase the number of field goals. - o - I would make the goal a little wider, and increase the penalty circle to 18 m. In addition, I would add a 3m goalkeeper-only circle.

I seriously dislike using world rankings as qualifying criteria for team sports. How can a small country like Uruguay or Chile qualify, if Argentina and Brazil get free points by getting invited to several major championships? In my opinion, all continents (at least four) should get guaranteed spots through either a continental championship or standalone qualifier. World championships should give not more than four spots. And one or two extra spots for world repechage, to encourage intercontinental play for smaller teams.
