    TAEKWONDO. Ranking Olímpico Real ,gracias a Angel Esteban (el de la federación internacional no es el real pues incluye los puntos de los últimos 4 años  y debería recoger solo los puntos de 2016 al 25% y los de 2017 al 50%,y los de 2018 al 75% y los de 2019 al 100%).

    The FIE Ranking http://fie.org/results-statistic/ranking is like tennis: for every competition, a team/fencer defend the points won in the corresponding competition the previous year. The Olympic Ranking will be the FIE Ranking as of 4 April 2020 (so counting results from April 2019).
    So if you are only interested in the Olympic Ranking, you can think that in April 2019 every team/fencer starts from zero points. For teams, you add the points gained at World Championships + Continental Championships + best 4 results at Team World Cups in April 2019- 4 April 2020. For individuals, you add the points gained at World Championships + Continental Championships + best 5 results at World Cups/GP in April 2019- 4 April 2020.

    It has already been written, but I don't think it makes much sense to keep this thread separated from the World Cup thread...imo merging them in a "FIE World Cup and Grand Prix 2018-19" would be better.

    that's the World Ranking, which is different from the World Cup Classification: https://shorttrack.sportresult.com/Rankings.aspx?evt=11213100000062&rep=19254
    In the World Cup Classification, best 4 results are counted.

    Absolutely pointless race, completely unworthy. The fact that almost everyone on the blue course won clearly shows that this course was ridiculous. I guess Joerg cant believe her luck. A couple of years ago someone like her never would have gotten a gold medal in PGS, but sadly the level of competition is at an all time low. I miss the days of Ledecky (misspelling her name makes me feel cool ) ... [semicit.]

    Hopefully they will meet in Rome because there's an UCI meeting or something that they should have attended anyway. Either that or they are stealing money from their organizations to go on a holiday.

    and somehow the home Nation always finds the way of getting unexpected medals...
    very good final run by Dierdorff, who took advantage from the really slow start and the consequential struggle to comeback in touch by "oldie" Perathoner, who was dominat through the previous rounds but probably felt too much pressure in the final act...
     
    Samkova instead didn't suffer from anything like that and dominated the day from start to finish...
    good, actually, very good team result for the Italian girls (3 in the top 6), but still somehow disappointing because of Moioli "only" getting the Bronze medal and especially because of her very passive attitude in the final run (she didn't even try to get anything more than the 3rd place)...
     
    in general, good but not great day for us, as also in the men's division we saw Visinting failing big time once again...the guy definitely can't handle the big events...he's just a good world cup racer and nothing more than that...
    fortunately Perathoner saved the day for our boys, but he also left the feeling of an incomplete effort, after being so dominant in the qualifications run and in the previous rounds of the actual competition...
     
    p.s. despite the women's field being not that deep, long life to snowboardcross...by far the most exciting (and upset-prone) event in the whole snowboard & freestyle program...

    Yes but if I understand correctly this is a big modification of your previous system and is actually quite close to the current one:
     
     
    Points will be awarded as follows:

    - For right predicted Gold Medal Winner - 4 points  3 points
    - For right predicted Silver Medal Winner - 3 points.
    - For right predicted Bronze Medal Winner - 2 points 3 points
    - For right predicted Athlete/Nation but wrong place/medal - 1 point 2 points
    - Bonus points: 1 bonus point will be awarded to predictor who predicted all medalists correctly, regardless of the order (1-2-3, 1-3-2, 2-1-3, 2-3-1, 3-2-1, 3-1-2).
     
    I think one would have to compare different predictions (about a single event and a whole contest) and decide which one is better to come up with the best system:

    P.S.
    1) I still prefer the current system;
    2) I think that whoever runs the contest (doing most of the work) should be entitled to use the scoring system that he thinks is the most fitting...no need to use always the same system if there are different managers.

    Because only gold matters. 
     
    But seriously, everyone competes to win. Silver and bronze are only consolation awards. I don't think they should be treated as equal just because they may be more unpredictable (or, should I say, random?).

    Just as a comparison, I've had a look at the 2016 balance sheet of the Italian Basketball Federation on their website...it looks like they paid 2.5 million € to FIBA for a men's OQT ...according to the press, they had to offer at least 1.7 million in order to bid.

    Well, everyone that knows me on the forum probably knows that I love stats and I love going back in time, so this time I was considering who is still active in the world cup from the previous winners that haven't won a race in a while and how long it's been since their success.     Fairly evident that German hopes and dreams are destroyed by Johannes and Martin. Quite a few multi-winners like Tarjei, Arnd, Julian, Jakov, Simon with a year or more since last win. Some surprises for me: Bescond, Vitkova, Doll only on a single win. Lastly, it's been a very long time since Landertinger last had a win.
