Our best chance for a medal in a sport we didn’t win a medal in before is Rhys McClenaghan in artistic gymnastics. He’s one of the favourites in the men’s pommel. Golf is also worth a bet as we have chances in both men’s and women’s events. Small chances for a first medal in road cycling and taekwondo though I wouldn’t be putting my hopes on them either.

Robert Dickson and Seán Waddilove have secured Olympic quotas in the men's skiff 49er class for the Paris 2024 Olympics. There was one qualification spot on offer at the European Championships in Portugal and the Irishmen claimed it, finishing in 8th place and more importantly as the top placed nation of those not already qualified. In sailing, quotas are awarded to the NOC instead of the athletes who earned them but in all likelihood this quota will be awarded to Dickson and Waddilove. It means Ireland has now qualified 67 athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympics! gets its second boat qualified for Paris 2024! Dickson and Waddilove were one place outside of qualifying at the World Championships so nice to see them get the job done this time

Apparently Malta is not eligible as their 49er crew is represented by a French sailor so not a full Maltese crew. Italy and Germany are into the good fleet also.
