intoronto got a reaction from Makedonas in Swimming Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
This reminds me of the women's bobsleigh in 2010 when the FIBT (now known as the IBSF) did not award Australia a continental spot, and had to back track and do so. The team that was bumped, Ireland, also got to compete. So FINA should do the right thing here as well and let the 17th team in both to compete.

that's interesting. he was supposed to compete in Final C with a Kuwaiti guy but withdrew. I thought he won't be counted in the final ranking and won't be eligible to receive a quota but apparently I was wrong.
maybe one country rejected its quota. or maybe KUW took the female quota. because after all Asia had 1 additional quota because of unused host quota. meaning 6 (instead of 5) qualified in single sculls events.
but this line was amazing
skill and fighting spirit

Netty seems to be on an upwards trajectory - hopefully she qualifies and can get back up to her form from a few years ago.

That is quite a story It is really unbelievable how one player changed completely the outcome of this team. Canada lost to Latvia 0-2, to USA 1-5, to Germany in the first 3 matches and was basically eliminated, then arrived Andrew Mangiapane from Calgary as the last player added to the roster and since then...he scored in each match and led this team to an incredible Final tomorrow.

Maurio Mccoy is out of contender to USA team
Ivan Monteiro is out of contender to Brazil team
Micky Papa with a strong performance may be a surprise and get or out of Olympics @intoronto

I was bored, so I made this. This first part lists how many athlete quotas a nation has in each boat type per gender, and the second part lists the possible boat entries per event (countries listed the left of the “/“ must field a boat, countries have listed to the right have the option to field a boat). This is all based on the current general understanding of the qualification system, and there could very well be errors.

So here are the Groups for 2022
the only change is CAN/FIN, Canada is now in Group A, Finalnd in Group B, but if Finland win the world title here and CAN finish 4th they will move ahead of Canada in the world rankng and play in group A and canada will play in B

Canada or Finland
USA
Germany
Switzerland
Slovakia
Denmark
Kazakhstan
Italy
B:
Finland or Canada
Russia (also next year will have to play as ROC)
Czech Republic
Sweden
Latvia
Norway
Belarus
Great Britain
Remember there also a rule, the host country can swap one neighbouring country if they want to the other group (in this case SWE with SUI or NOR with DEN) but it happened only rarely due economical question with fullfiling both arenas thanks fans from neighboring countries.

USA and Germany can not overtake Russia, so they will finish 4th and 5th and play in the same group. Only Finland can pass Canada in first place if they win the title and Canada finish 4th
In case of tie of points for GB and Italy the tie breaker is better final standing at the last championship, GB 14th, Italy 16th.

China is missing from that list due to not competing last year, so it’s likely closer to 12 nations and 8 teams assuming you didn’t count China.

FIS has released quota simulations for all disciplines.
Have fun! https://www.fis-ski.com/en/inside-fis/document-library/winter-olympic-games
From what I see, Aerials has only 11 nations and 7 team event entries, yikes.

Should be more like the World Baseball Classic where results don't carry over and the 2 teams from the same pool play each other again. Would only extend the tournament by 1 day to do that and it's not like there's travel involved.
