Results from the Pan Am Championships

Canada swept the women's singles podium with Li-Zhang-Hoang-Chan

Lai won the men's singles title, Nguyen won bronze. Yang went out in the quarterfinals

Dent/Lai won bronze in women's doubles, there were only four teams competing

Lee/Lindeman made the final, but got demolished by the US 21-13, 21-8

Both mixed doubles teams went out in the quarterfinals

After this unfortunately I don't see us qualifying in any of the doubles events for LA 2028, although given how the last few years have gone it was always going to be tough.

Taylor Ruck with a new PB in the 100 fly. 57.71! Also won the 50 free in 24.78.

Oliver Dawson won the 100 breast in 1:00.20. After his performances this week, was hoping he would break the minute barrier but it's still a new PB for him. Hopefully we see some breaststroke Canadian records go down at trials. He also split 59.79 on the mixed medley relay.

I would also say it was a pretty good meet for Ella Jansen overal. Was just off her PB in the 200 free and set new PB's in the 100 free, 50 fly, 200 back and 200 IM (with the 200 back and 200 IM PB's happening 20 minutes apart). Hoping to see her take that next step this summer.

Had a look at the historical rankings.

It looks like Dawson's 59.05 breaststroke split from yesterday's relay is a Canadian textile record. Only Mathieu Bois 58.86 split from the 2009 World Championships is faster and that was with a super suit. Richard Funk previously had the record with a 59.25 split.

Canadian Record in the individual 100m breaststroke is 59.85 from Scott Dickens. We could see that go down tomorrow.

That time falls just 0.68 seconds off a Canadian Record that is older than Dawson, and moves him up to 2nd in the all-time Canadian rankings, leapfrogging James Dergousoff. Dawson also demolishes his meet record of 2:12.82 from this morning.
He also moves up to 10th in the world this year, overtaking Leon Marchand.

Also a 53.80 for Ruck in the 100m freestyle. She's had a rough last few years, happy to see her finding some form.

Day 1 of the Canadian Open was today.

Oliver Dawson set a new PB in the 50m breaststroke going 27.46. That's just 0.01 shy of Scott Dickens Canadian record. Then in the 4x100m medley relay, he had a 59.05 split for Team Alberta .

Taylor Ruck won the women's 100m backstroke in 59.07. Good swim for her 3 months out from Canadian trials.

Also a decent swim from Ella Jansen in the 200m freestyle going 1:57.62. Just a bit off her best time.

Was just doing some research on some of the players on the roster, unless I'm mistaken... now that Jack Merrill has competed in a FINA sanctioned WC for Canada, he's now tied to our team. He was on the US roster for the World U20 Championships in 2023 (he also competed at Youth Pan Ams for Canada in 2019), huge pickup.
