Happy with both, albeit Dan Wiffen was dreadfully unlucky with timing

Limerick...sigh. Even with a QF loss, the men's rugby team were huge. Extended period as #1, a win over the world champs, a grand slam finally at home. The women's football team amazing turnaround post world cup, and the European gold, World bronze of the men's sevens also

Men’s rugby team ended the year as a disappointment though. The rowers should have won. Criminally underrated

You were faster with this post. :d

For me, team award should go to either Volleyball team (3rd at ECH) or Ski Jumping Team (World Champions). Years ago, it was more worthy for football team to qualify for Euro, but nowadays almost half of Europe qualifies.

As for men, Timi Zajc and Kristjan Čeh did not stand a chance, since Pogačar and Roglič are shining in one of most popular global sport. Same for Dončić.

With women it was all very predictable.

Olimpia Awards in :ARG (most traditional sport awards ceremony here, with over 60 editions already).

The top award ("olimpia de oro") for 2023 was shared between Belen Casetta (athletics, steeplechase, gold medal in pan american games) and Lionel Messi (for who knows what).

Third win a row for Messi and fourth overall for him.

I agree that the Volleyball team should have won the team award. Medals > Qualifying. I have to say that I was a bit surprised Dončić came in 3rd. I expected either Zajc or Savšek to come 3rd. The women's side was probably the most predictable in years.

Wonder is this the first time a Nordie has won the RTÉ prize (Rhys McCleneghan), but failed to pick up BBC NIs prize....
