The story of these Olympics: busy times in part one of the day, then hours of nothing (or a group match or something), and then a ton of stuff all at the same time, planned in such a way that 2-3-4 sets of medals are decided at almost the same moment.

I just went to Seoul on the off days lol

And it’s bad. You often have to rush between events that are so far away and so close in time, too.

Two people got injured at the 'Holland Heineken House', when the men's pursuit team was celebrated for their bronze medal. People were making noise while they were being talked to by the host, which eventually lead to the athletes getting annoyed. Then, in a not so smart move, they kinda threw the 'stone'* into the audience, hurting two of them...it looks like they're alright (one as taken away by ambulance), but that wasn't very smart.

*every medal winner got one, which was then given to the audience, who moved it to the back of the room for it to go up on a wall

Uh-oh. I’m going there for the mass starts...

Any words of advice from a Dutchman?

This is normal for Korea (I lived there for 10 years).  Look up what happened to Apollo Ohno.  Or FIFA in 2006.  Or boxing at the 1988 Olympics.

Story: At London in 2012 Park Tae-Hwan was DQed for a false start in the 400m swimming heat.  That moved Canadian Ryan Cochrane into the final (this decision was later overturned, for no good reason I might add).  I was the lone Canadian (or foreigner of any kind) at my place of work in Seoul and I was greeted the next day with anger, yelling and insults by my co-workers.  I was told it was all a conspiracy by the swimming association and Canada to discredit Korea and push the Canadian into the final.  After I was done laughing at the idea that Canada had any sway with the swimming federation, I just hid in my room the rest of the day.  I was kicked out of the lunch room at noon, but when Park was re-instated later that day I was mocked relentlessly and my country insulted.  This all by grown educated adults who I had been "friends" with for years.  For the duration of those Olympics I was reminded daily by several co-workers of how many more medals Korea won compared to Canada while being laughed at.  Koreans, in general, are terrible losers AND terrible winners.  Their English word for cheating is "Cunning", just to let you know their view on the subject, by the way.

Right after the race last night, I turned to my friend and told him, "And here come the death threats!".  I enjoyed my time in Korea and have made some lovely Korean friends.  But this is also a country where every international sporting event I went to, locals would stand for their own national anthem and then sit for the other country's while loudly talking away.  I want our hockey team to destroy them.  Just absolutely smash them.  Unfortunately half the Korean team is Canadian, so it'll probably be pretty close.

I can tell you that at the stadium, everyone, and I mean practically EVERYONE, cleared out before the medal ceremony. It was so awkward.

I can’t help but root against Korea. When they don’t get their way many people act like spoiled kids. But the people sitting next to me were really nice about it. It’s not everyone who acts like this by any means.

I will go to Pyeongchang too! Quite easy to buy some tickets, because it seems no one else goes to Korea. A lot of speedskating, but also shorttrack, curling, figure skating, alpine skiing, snowboard and ... thank God ... BIATHLON!! Just bought two tickets for the 10KM sprint men.

What’s your event schedule? I’m going to the biathlon as well!

  5. My final itinerary is here, if it has an asterisk * it means I'd like to go but only if I get a bargain ticket price (or in some cases, a ticket at all..). So maybe not so final after all :p. If anyone is anywhere at any of these events feel free to let me know.

The Slovak Olympic House will be opened during the games in Gangneung, The 2 floors building of 400 will be open daily from 11:00 to 24:00 every Olympic day. The entry is free for the slovak and foreign athletes, journalists or simple visitors and fans.

The main idea of the Slovak Olympic house is as usual to present our sport, Slovak culture, music, traditions and especially gastronomy (No worries guys, Slovak beers will be available in sufficient quantity ;)).

The Slovak House is located near the Olympic Village and the Czech House. Its capacity is 150 people.  and everyone involved hope that will be the place of eventual Slovak successes official celebrations.

All right, I'm coming to Gangneung on 6th February and will stay there for 20 days. I hope to meet with you at some time after the opening ceremony. I'll have busy schedule but it's going to be a really great interview, I'm sure about that.

It's not yet clear about alternate events. They will be arranged in Sochi for everyone who missed Olympics, but I have no other details. When they organised such competition for Paralympians in 2016, I couldn't even find the results...

Nice and I have the same timeframe exactly. Except I’m away the 20th/21st as I’ll be in Seoul. PM me here when you’d like to plan the interview and we can go from there, haha.

That’s weird about the Paralympic thing. Didn’t think it would be so obscure. I predict the 2018 will be a kind of ‘Russian Championships’ with few foreigners.. maybe a few Norwegian rejects too. Lol. Though a higher profile for sure. It has to be. A significant purpose should be to get exposure.
