Nope, a disaster. Though I award him some bonus points for managing to stay on the board after pulling out of the dive at the last moment

They have a two-pronged attack.... buy the best athletes and according to BBC investigation prior to London 2012, they also pay money to buy some guaranteed golds: https://www.google.ie/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/sport/2011/sep/23/boxing-azerbaijan-medals-cash

This has been a tough week for me. Some of you may have noticed that I have a picture of my dog, Benny, on my profile page. In fact when I was on the old forum, I had a photo of Benny as my avatar. I am very sad to tell you that this week I had to make the very tough decision of letting Benny go. He was injured a few weeks ago in a car accident and he suffered an injury to his back. He was given medication and rest and I was hoping and praying that he would be able to recover. As the second week passed it became clear that Benny was not progressing and a decision would have to be made. One more week but it was no good. He was made as comfortable as possible after his accident but I hard to make the awful decision of deciding that it was best to let him go. I am heartbroken and as much as I tried to distract myself for the last couple of weeks, it didn't prepare me for having to say goodbye . I am sorry if I have not replied to any messages and have not been updating any threads these last few days. I will be back on top of things soon. Here is a couple of pics to share with you of my lovely Benny.... he was a wonderful and loyal friend.

Another gold for Mona McSharry today, this time in women's 100m breaststroke.... 2 golds and 1 silver for her, what a championships for Mona! Overall a great championships for our team, 2 golds and 2 silvers and a 4th place in the mixed relay. Hopefully Mona and Conor can keep it going into the worlds and the world juniors. It will be another big step up but good to see we have some new talents at least.

It's wonderful to see that there is still so many athletes who have been at all the Olympics in this century.... and a whole bunch more who have an even longer longevity despite missing the odd one in between. And also, the range of sports is incredible too I am slowly adding all those that you have posted here plus those that I have found through researching a bit. It'll be interesting to see how many of these wonderful athletes can make it to Tokyo. I bet even one of them medals there!
-
One mind-boggling fact I discovered while doing this research.... Belarussian shooter Kanstantsin Lukashyk won Olympic gold all the way back in Barcelona 1992 and competed in every edition thereafter with the exception of Rio 2016..... not that this alone isn't impressive, but what I found absolutely mind bending is the fact that he is still only 41 years old .
-
I will probably make a separate note about those athletes like Martikán with that longevity, I know there are quite a few who still compete but maybe missed one or two in between. I will for now concentrate on those who have been at all Summer Olympics since 2000 and then look at adding the others as I would love to track them also As I know nothing about Winter Sports, I won't look at creating those lists for now.... maybe after this list is completed or if someone more knowledgeable wants to take the task then feel free

As the title suggests, I thought it would be interesting to make a list of athletes per nation and per sport who have competed at every Olympics this century (Sydney 2000 - Rio 2016). I always have a soft spot for athletes who show grit and determination to compete at the top level across a long period of time and those athletes who have such longevity are deserving of our admiration. The primary focus of this thread is so that we can track those athletes who are still on course to compete at a sixth consecutive Olympics in this century and who have a chance to qualify for Tokyo 2020. I would greatly appreciate as much help as possible from all users in this project as I am not enough familiar with some Olympic sports.

USA have become the 13th nation to book their place at the 2019 Rugby World Cup. The Eagles thrashed Canada 52-16 in the second leg of their World Cup qualifying play-off in San Diego last night. The first leg in Canada ended in a draw, 28-28. This will be the USA's 8th appearance in the Rugby World Cup, only missing the 1995 World Cup in South Africa. USA goes into the pool of death alongside England, France and Argentina. Canada will play Uruguay in a play-off in early 2018 with the winner of that tie securing their spot at the 2019 World Cup. Congrats to the Eagles

Irish Pentathletes Retain Mixed Relay World Cup Title Arthur Lanigan-O'Keeffe and Natalya Coyle retained the Mixed Relay World Cup title in Lithuania last weekend. The Irish pair built up a 23-second advantage going into the combined shoot and run event which proved enough to see them claim gold for the second successive year at the World Cup Final. The Irish duo are continuing their fine form into this season having both enjoyed a successful Rio Olympics (Arthur finished 8th and Natalya 6th in their respective individual events). There was more good news for Arthur and Natalya this week with the news that they are to be upgraded to the bronze medal for the 2015 World Championships after a failed drugs test from Russian Maksim Kustov. There were mixed emotions from the news with Arthur commenting: Delighted although at the same time devastated! My grandad & mum traveled to watch that competition & that moment was stolen from us! Natalya expressed similar sentiments: We've just been awarded a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BRONZE medal from 2015! Happy yet sad we couldn't celebrate on the day. Elsewhere, there were encouraging results from two other Irish pentathletes with Sive Brassil placing 19th and Kate Coleman-Lenehan coming home 25th in the World Cup final in what is proving to be a breakthrough season for both. Great results for Irish pentathlon this season. Long may it continue

Ireland Awarded Test Cricket Status Irish cricket has reached the proverbial promised-land with the news that they have been awarded International Test Cricket status. The International Cricket Council voted unanimously to hand Test status to Ireland and Afghanistan, who will now become just the 11th and 12th members of the lucrative Test Cricket club. It is the first time a nation has been added to the list of Test Cricket members since Bangladesh were given Test status in 2000. Ireland had given the ICC food for thought in recent years by repeatedly causing huge upsets at World Cup level, with the then Associate-member side defeating giants Pakistan, Bangladesh, England and the West Indies in the last three successive World Cups as well as drawing with Zimbabwe in the 2007 edition, each of those being Test nations. ICC chief-executive David Richardson congratulated the new Test members: “I’d like to congratulate Afghanistan and Ireland on their Full Membership status which is the result of their dedication to improving performance both off and on the field resulting in the significant development and growth of cricket in their respective countries. Both have clearly demonstrated they meet the new criteria and as such have made the progression to Full Membership.” With Ireland now getting access to play the world's best teams on a regular basis and a larger slice of funding, it is hoped that Irish cricket will continue it's dramatic progress in the years to come. Also with the carrot of Test Status no longer a prize beyond the reach of aspiring Irish players, it is hoped that Ireland will now be able to hold on to all of their best players who in the past lost players who went to England in order to get a chance of playing Test cricket. Well done guys, very well deserved
