The British Eurosport commentator Tim Hutchings was bemoaning the fact that more women have not taken on the mantle of going for the 50km walk as if it is their fault..... maybe if they hadn't just shoe-horned it in as an event a couple of weeks before the competition, more woman would have taken it on Tim!

I will probably set mine for 07:00, enough time to talk myself out of bed for 10 mins and prepare a quick breakfast Yes, I know that feeling.... any time you bring up athletics or Olympic sports in general, people start looking at you as if you've suddenly grown a second head

A very distant outsider these days with his best years behind him now. I know nothing about his preparation this year so I don't have any indication of his form. I am most looking forward to seeing Brendan Boyce, a local athlete.... hoping he can achieve a new PB and keep slowly edging towards the top 10 of this event.

God help us . Not sure if many others would understand why I awake so early on my day off to watch a 50km walk from the start but at least there are one or two of our species in this world

I love how so many athletes are attempting doubles this year (even some who don't have much expectations for medals in any). It reminds me of past times when it seemed to be more common place .

Yes, that is why he didn't have his time-trial, it would have been unfair to the opposition Although Barr's PB was set in the glorious sunshine of Rio in the Olympic final last year so I think even he does not like the rain as much
