That's it for at the Olympics. We won 14 medals overall - tying the Sydney 2000 haul. 9 medals is the most we've ever won in athletics at OG too (previous best was 8 in... Tokyo 1964 ).

Our most successful OG athletics in medal quality was 4-0-0 in Sydney where we also swept the hammer and Korzeniowski won two golds in race walking. Fast forward 21 years and we swept the hammer again and won 50k walk too.

These are our most successful SOG in XXI century (4-5-5) beating Beijing 2008 (4-5-2).

It's not a shock. She was a hands down gold favorite in Rio and couldn't compete. One missed OG is enough. She didn't have the best season in 2021 but she won OG anyway. I won't be surprised if she retires next year (unlike Chicherova who retired like three times).
