  1. That's why i'm thinking Sanchez may be sitting this relay out.
  2. So there's a rumor that Pickrem is going to scratch the 200m breastroke - she may be the answer to this relay conundrum.
  3. My guess is that they put Smith, Savard, McIntosh and Oleksiak in the final....they may medal if China underperforms again.
  4. Adam Kreek did a podcast where he interviewed all the different crews - the one with Smith/Sevick was the most fascinating one. They worked really well together but there was definitely some underlying issues and had to switch coaches like 2 or 3 months ago.
  5. It looks like they never found the right rythym. This boat had coaching issues where they were super unhappy with their coach. Looks like it wasn’t their day.
  6. I'm hopi I'm hoping the momentum from Day 4 will carry over to Day 5 as well. Agreed that the medal chances aren't particularly as strong but there are possibilities. Curious how this mixed doubles tennis will go...is the Greece team good together or are they seeded because of their combine individual ranking?
  7. This one stings.
  8. What a great result for the Canadian team! It was a great game.
  9. His first time reaching the Round of 16 in his 4 Olympics!
  10. That seemed to work well at the 2019 World Championships. We'll be fairly even with Australia as they are also lacking a top breastroker.
  11. The last thing I saw before going to bed was Margelidon's bronze medal match - not the best thing to go out on. It's extremely hard to go for Bronze against a challenger that came through the repechage even if you are ultimately the more skilled Judoka, kudos to her for putting those emotions behind her. I have a good feeling about today - although I'm a bit cautious about diving since Caeli McKay has had an ankle injury recently.
  12. Not in Judo - the QF losers from the same side as the bracket face each other and the winner will go to a bronze medal match. EDIT: So Margelidon will need to win 2 more matches for a medal.
  13. I don't think so - I think Margelidon made it far enough that he will be in the repechage.
  14. I may be overtired but I found the encouragement from his coach and Margelidon's hug of his opponent at the end incredibly moving.
  15. And Liendo going 47.51 is very impressive too.
  16. I really hope the 4th place lit a fire for the Canadian men - they were right there with all the other teams. I hate finishing 4th but the two 4th place finishes give me a lot of hope.
  17. I have to say the three womens foil fencers did better than I was expecting today. A win in this round would have been amazing, but hopefully it means we can do well in the team event.
  18. I don't know anything about Taekwondo tbh but I would think that she does.
  19. There's some more info here - https://swimswam.com/sydney-pickrem-skips-400-im-prelim-due-to-non-covid-medical-reasons/ It looks like it was likely just a withdrawal so she can focus on her other events.
  20. Also not for Daiya Seto - the favourite. Does not qualify for the final.
  21. This doesn't bode well for Pickrem this week. Hope its minor and she'll be back for the 200 IM.
  22. Is Woods in the Time Trial? I didn't think he was entered in that. I agree - it really looked like he was getting boxed in as they entered the last few meters.
  23. It was so close. What an exciting moment for the first day though!
  24. My best guess is Sanchez, Smith, Ruck and Oleksiak with MacNeil replacing the weakest performer for the final.
  25. Canada did win 8 medals at the 2019 World Championships including 2 that were not included in the Sports Illustrated predictions (plus 1 from 2017). SwimSwam is currently predicting 5 medals for Canada although they have yet to predict the 100m fly or 200m breast. https://swimswam.com/tokyo-2020-olympic-games-official-swimswam-preview-index/ I'm trying to temper my expectations but there's lots of potential. The relays should be fascinating, there's lots of talent there but not sure where everyone is at. Which Taylor Ruck is going to show up? I've been mulling over the 4x100m lineup so much.
