  1. Interesting. I was under the inpression that they likely wouldn’t be taking some of the B standard athletes. I think with the priority listing in the qualification document they may not but didn’t notice the wording.
  2. Liendo is clearly on the rise. Looking forward to see what he can do. So weird all his events are near the end (except the relay).
  3. The Team announcement tomorrow is going to be fascinating. They've given themselves lots of flexibility in terms of who they select this time. I would expect them to name either Kisil or Hayden to the second spot in the 100m Free. I hope its Kisil. As much as I want to see Javi Acevedo names to the team it would be hard justify when they have Liendo, Gaslav, Thormeyer PLUS Hayden and Kisil hitting the A standard.
  4. I was not expecting Penny to be that last today. Well done.
  5. He didn't like great on the second leg of the prelims this morning. Resting for him is probably good. I'm guessing that we will get two under the A standard tonight. Liendo and Thormeyer looked like they were holding back a bit. Ruck looked better but still not her best today.
  6. Is that surprising Re: Debues Stafford. I thought she would want to do 5000.
  7. I think Summer McIntosh knew exactly what she was doing with the 800m - she wanted enough to qualify. Pickrem wasn't tapered for this meet per her post-race interview, she's going to be really strong by the Olympics. It was a heart warming story to see Hayden and Liendo qualify for the same event. I was feeling a little frustrated yesterday after yesterday's results but today was more reassuring.
  8. It looks like they took the top placed athlete from either the final or semi-final not already qualified.
  9. I'm perplexed how Canada managed a second spot in women's and not get a spot in the men's. I was using the ranking on the FIG website which shows Canada ahead of Ukraine which is why I am so confused.
  10. Its listed as international mixed 4x400m - so who knows what they have up their sleeve.
  11. Not sure if it was there before but it looks like a mixed 4x400m relay showed up on the Canadian Athletics Trials schedule.
  12. I would expect Sanchez to qualify in the top 4 for the 100 too. That way Titley has options for the 4x100m and 4x200m relays depending on if her and Ruck are swimming better when the time comes.
  13. Day 2 of swim trials certainly not as exciting as Day 1. Was hoping to get 1 in the W 100m Breastroke and one in the M 100m Breastroke under the A standard. It does look like Oleksiak is holding back. Really thought Sanchez would be in the top 4 too, happy for Savard though.
  14. Someone in the swimswam comments said she may have a wrist injury. I would be more worried about the 4x200m than the 100m but let’s see how the rest of the trials pan out.
  15. Doesn't Japan get the host quota? Meaning Mexico qualifies as part of the top 9?
  16. I would love to see Canada medal in some unexpected events. Fencing? Archery? Sailing? One of them would be fun. A medal for the men’s swimming relays would be great.
  17. She looks so good now. And Ruck managed to get 2nd - not an amazing time but I'm feeling better about naming her to the 100m freestyle.
  18. I think Canada will almost certainly win a medal on Day 2, there are a few medal prospects that day Diving Synchro 3m, Swimming Women's 4x100m Freestyle. Plus there's also a shot with Pickrem in the 400m IM and Skylar Park in Taekwondo.
  19. I will add that Masse looked calm and in charge putting down a 58.13 in the 100m back. Taylor Ruck did not, but I'll wait till the final before passing too much judgement.
  20. Josh Liendo set a NR record in the 100m Butterfly in the Heats this morning at 51.40.
  21. It’s looking good for her. Definitley a gold medal possibility.
  22. Canada's trials start this weekend and go to the 23rd. Team will be announced after that I think.
  23. Welcome back!
  24. I love that you compiled this! It's certainly an interesting experiment to do it points wise - I'm sure if you did it by event it would look different, Cycling for example you have it at 9 points which would equal 3 medals, which I would say is too high. There are definitely places where we diverge. I do think you are giving Archery one point for the whole sport you need to include one point for Sailing. Men's diving as well I would give 1 point between the 10m Syncrho and 10m Individual. Judo - I think Klimkait both as the recent World Champion and as the number 1 seed needs to have at least 2 points in the system. I would also give Valois-Fortier 1 point despite not being seeded. Rowing is an interesting case, at the last World Championships we got one bronze and 2 4th place finishes, but the the team strategically chose crews to send to the last chance qualifier and performed well. I'm curious if they have something going on. Finally - I think this weekend we will see where are Swimmers are at, the relays are most definitely all in play (i'm not quite ready to call the medley 3 points). I'm assuming you missed the 200m Breaststroke.
  25. This seems like a pretty impressive result: https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/summer/aquatics/water-polo/canada-water-polo-world-super-league-final-preview-1.6065521 Not sure if Russia sent their A team but they beat Canada when they met during the last World Championships.
