  1. I’m surprised he’s not part of the relay squad for today. I’m really hoping they can pull off something special.
  2. Definitley most excited for short track. I’m a little surprised Hamelin didn’t get chosen for the 1000m but I really get the sense that becoming a parent has made him more appreciative of the experience as a whole.
  3. That’s the reverse of what ended up happening. Welp it was not to be this time. In other news Homan and Morris are starting to gel and find their groove. And there’s been some decent training runs from the mens downhill.
  4. Japan is being helped by some poor scores by others. In the ice dance it depends on if the judges want to reward more.
  5. It's still early but they seem much more confident today.
  6. I did see it earlier and it’s somehow worse than I imagined.
  7. She missed a few shots but the fact that they played this poorly and still kept it relatively close against the world champion is promising.
  8. I thought this was perplexing too lol
  9. I mean they've never won a WOG medal so it would be kinda cool if they won. Still pulling for Canada though.
  10. Let's hoping he arrives for that. And that Japan underperforms in pairs and Canada overperforms (not that I want to cheer against Japan I just want Canada to win the bronze).
  11. I wasn't expecting Hamelin given his events the next day but he is a fantastic choice.
  12. Oh - I know that....I was just agreeing that Canada's chances in the team event were contingent on him over-performing so scratch that off the list of medal possibilities. I just realized the men's figure skating event is the first of the individual events.....eeek.
  13. Here's hoping he makes it before the individual event - Canada was really going to need him to over perform and the Japanese pair to under perform to get the bronze.
  14. 23 medals doesn't seem wildly off (although I'm of course hoping for more). It was just 5 snowboard medals compared to 4 in Freestyle Skiing that stood out to me.
  15. Scott Gow did have that impressive World Cup performance where he shot clean. It could happen. Disappointing it didn’t happen with Harvey last time but the 4th place in the 50km was impressive
  16. Hopium is a great word for how I am currently feeling (even if it may have been a typo). I have hope we will see great results from all Canadian athletes in all sports whether they are podium finishes or not. An Alpine medal would be delightful - the Canadian team seems to be showing some great non-podium finishes at this years World Cup so it would not be totally out of left field. Cheers!
  17. A warm welcome. I’m hoping that it’s somewhere about 25. I’m kind of thinking about 5 key groupings if sports that will win about 5 medals each (Speed Skating, Short Track, Freestyle Skiing, Snowboard, hockey/curling) with a few chances in bobsleigh and less so figure skating to help round up.
  18. I have to go with Vancouver since its the one I've been too and volunteered at.
  19. Weird - we don't normally see this from Canada. Accepting the quota is just strange.
  20. Do you think Canada may name more PGS athletes later? I wonder if they prepared the press release and forgot to edit it or something because to only send 2 athletes when we could send 7 seems wrong.
  21. They certainly have the potential as the last World Cup season has shown. I was pulling for De Haitre but it makes sense, I guess he didn't have enough time between Tokyo and now to prepare.
  22. I am wary of Homan after her performance in 2018, but Morris seemed to bring out the best in Lawes in 2018 so I think relying on his experience is key here. I agree that they seem to have chosen the obvious route here - I was really looking forward to the trials a few weeks ago, its a shame they got cancelled but understandable.
  23. Sidney Poitier was the first Black actor to win in a lead Oscar category - this lead distinction is rather important here because Poitier was the true lead of the film and an all around movie star. There's a lot to unpack with Hattie McDaniel's Oscar win - yes, she was the first black person to win an Oscar, but the role was very stereotypical of the mamie stereotype and when she attended the Oscars she was relegated to the back of the room.
  24. The Canadian team has been performing incredibly here. Maggie MacNeil's World Record was truly an impressive feat.
  25. I don’t really follow curling but I am relieved that Canada has Jennifer Jones for the womens side and a past gold medalist for the mens side. After seeing both the mens and womens teams struggle in 2018 it’s a relief that we will have experience and consistency.
