Polish former ski jumper Mateusz Rutkowski, 2004 junior world champion, has died, aged 37.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mateusz_Rutkowski

Only 11 World Cup starts in his career, which already ended in 2006. I'm sure our Polish users have heard more about it, but according to Wikipedia there had been tons of problems with alcohol, weight issues and such. Sounds tragic :(

Yeah, Rutkowski was billed by our media as the "next Małysz" after beating Morgenstern for the individual Junior WCh in 2004 but it all unravelled very quickly due to alcohol. He lost his driving licence for drunk driving in 2005 so he was basically completely gone within two years. Funnily enough Kamil Stoch who was also on the 2004 Junior WCh silver medal team became Małysz's heir.

I’ve said it before, but if an IF’s main competition tour is only going to be in one continent (Europe or Asia in most cases), then they shouldn’t be allowed to use the term “World Cup.”

European teams/athletes/fans always complain about competitions outside Europe, but just imagine how athletes from Pan America, Africa, Asia, or Oceania feel.

If NBA can use the term "World Champions" for mere 32 basketball teams from TWO countries (the second having a total of one team) when there actually is a basketball World Championships taking place elsewhere then using the term "World" for a sports competition is not subject to anyone's approval :p

He will do all right in his career as long as he does not seek career advice from Emma Raducanu.  :roflmao:

Gary Anderson had some true words but I presume the media will dissect Littler's life (especially him dating a 21 year old woman) and throw him to the bin when they get bored of his story :coffee:

  4. It turns out the Spanish anti-doping agency (CELAD) covered positive drug tests since 2017  They send notifications to athletes through paper mail hence the response time lapsed which allowed the entire case to expire.

I'm sure firing only the head of the agency will make the case disappear and everything will be fine overnight :coffee:

Don't know what he has, but if it's in German it must be really bad.  :roflmao:  They will need extra-big bottles at the pharmacy to fit it all on.

Kreuzbandriss is torn ACL. I'm afraid that won't be cured with extra big bottles of anything ;)

  6. Meanwhile Petra Kvitova is pregnant and given she will be 34 this year I don't see her coming back tbh.

Naomi Osaka won in two sets - over Tamara Korpatsch - on her post-pregnancy return (Brisbane) and Amanda Anisimova also won in two sets - over Pavlyuchenkova - on her post-burnout return (Auckland).
