  1. The Global Climate Strike begins today. Hopefully millions of students worldwide (or at least 100,000s) will leave their classrooms in protest of the adults that are killing their future and their children’s future.
  2. I think my dream jobs at the moment would be to work for Vice News, Vox, or NowThis; or work for a sports federation. I’d love to be a reporter or journalist somehow. I’d love to work with other journalists in Syria, Afghanistan, DPR Korea, Ukraine, and elsewhere, but I love sports too much I think. I aced my first speech in my communications 101 class today, maybe I’ll post on the forum tomorrow since people really liked it. I seem to have a talent for writing and speaking. I guess I could become a corrupt politician too if I want
  3. I’ll be honest. America seems to have a lack of black magic. Marianne Williamson did accuse the president of essentially being a demon during the second democratic debate though. I miss her self-help talk and voodoo already.
  4. Actually no, Boston is seen as the one historically conservative city in the Northeast. It’s famous for its inhabitants being racists. Those are often the jokes about it anyways. Plus, the dumb accent. I’ve just realized how much I dislike Boston. Huh
  5. I hope gets the quota honestly. They had the best competitor and they don’t often get many opportunities like this. would be okay too, but in all honestly she’s not truly Sri Lankan. She’s had most support than others on the list. I was hoping for but they flopped, so maybe has a chance too.
  6. Where can I watch. I’m in between shows right now. A lot of mine finished this year, or aren’t coming out again until next year.
  7. I love the first 5 minutes of Athens 2004. I’ve had that song/beat stuck in my head all week. Also the rings on fire in water had become such an iconic image.
  8. I love the First Nations segment from Vancouver 2010. However the caldron malfunction overshadows that ceremony.
  9. My biggest problem with Toronto 2015 was that it just really lacked a wow moment. I loved the way they made the caldron though
  10. ? I’m assuming this is a television show or something. I’ve never heard of it.
  11. Well you still have like 9 hours of the match to go, so it shouldn’t be a big deal
  12. The beginning of London 2012 is definitely the best ceremony segment of all time. I mean they really did portray 200 years of history in around 15 minutes and do a very good job of it. The pause for WW1 and WW2 gets me every time, especially since the entire crowd stands up to honor those lost.
  13. For Beijing wins other catagories, but just didn’t give me the same feelings as these other ceremonies did. The drum segment will always be the most memorable part of any opening ceremony of all time probably. I’m going to post some other category ranking lists later where Beijing will shine. I really do just love Baku 2015’s ceremony though. (That burning man will always be the most memorable image from an opening ceremony) I also love the beginning music here. What a great way to depict steppes culture:
  14. We completely agree by the way. I explained my points later in the thread. That comment was just to start the discussion.
  15. My Personal Favorites/“Rankings” Favorite Ceremonies Overall 1. Baku 2015 - Hello Azerbaijani culture. Just an amazing masterpiece all around. One of the highlights of the 1st ever European Games. I love everything about this ceremony. The dress changes to form carpet patterns. Lady Gaga’s performance of “Imagine”. The “Europa” segment with the mini stories. Europa and Bull. The really cherry on top is the last 20 minutes the ceremony. Plus, the most recognizable and unique caldrons of all time. 100/100 2. Rio 2016 - Nothing more Brazilian has ever existed. It was a lower budget production than the others on this list. I felt causal and slow like the rhythm of Brazil. It showed social chaos, and brought climate change to the forefront with what has become my favorite poem of all time. Also what a deserved moment for De Lima being the final torch bearer. The caldron was simple, yet unique and beautiful. 100/100 3. Jakarta/Palembang 2018 - The President of Indonesia is James Bond in his spare time. That opening dance number gave my chills. The placard bearers costumes for the parade of nations . Plus, the artificial waterfall . The artistic segment was just wonderful too. 100/100
  16. I thought it’s about time we talk about all the amazing opening ceremonies we’ve seen over the last few decades. Feel free to discuss anything about opening ceremonies below. There’s no rankings unless you wish to publish your own personal ones. This is a thread for the appreciation of opening ceremonies.
  17. Area 51 is trending on Twitter and Facebook because the raid goes down in two days . The memes are way too funny.
  18. Indonesia has to be to one of the weirdest fucking places on the planet
  19. Yes, that’s what we decided. And then we had a referendum in n wether or not to force police to enforce it.
  20. I think California’s weirdest “law” was when we had the referendum on wether porn “actors” should wear condoms
  21. Honestly black magic should carry at least a 5 year sentence. Also, people who believe black magic is possible should be sentenced to 15 years
  22. Let’s move to Australia or Canada together . We can both flee our dystopian countries.
