  1. Fucking shit day. Two cases of the virus in LA. Kobe’s death. Let’s just skip to tomorrow.
  2. I’m saving my memories of Kobe for the podcast today, but this is such a shock. I’d been hard at work trying to put together some results books for 2019 African Games, and @Vojthas messaged me. I’d be offline for so long, and it’s just unbelievable. Really holding back tears right now.
  3. To be fair, most African riders are more concerned about the Olympics, World Championships, and African Games where things like that don’t exist.
  4. Yes, this is also a good point. The only time when universality quotas should be questioned, is when either the top 10,15,20 in world can’t all have decent chances of qualification (meaning that most of them make it to the Olympics, with the caveat that a country really shouldn’t be allowed to send more than 3 athletes in an individual event), or when the athletes receiving the quotas can’t do the basic requirements of the sport.
  5. Yes, I do find it interesting. Finishing is half the battle in most sports. I spent the majority of my athletic life in the back of the race, and I’m glad I was given the opportunity to. Those sailors have had to overcome much more than the sailors from France, or China, or Italy, etc. To quote a somewhat well-known French Baron “The important thing in the Olympics is not so much to win, but to take part...just as the important thing in life is not to have conquered, but to have fought well”. - Pierre De Coubertin (founder of the Olympic Games) I can agree that a minimum level requirement is fine, but if these sailors can navigate the course, not capsize, and routinely complete races; that’s enough for me.
  6. And it’s much more interesting to have these athletes, than some more from the already dominant countries. I find it fun to cheer the little teams on. Plus, many of these athletes have a amazing stories that really capture the Olympic spirit.
  7. I’d rather have the guy from than the 25th guy from Europe who will finish last anyways. I’ve seen a lot of disdain for these universality quotas on here, and it’s actually disappointing to me. I’m going to get into that debate today on TWU.
  8. I’ve applied to volunteer in Anaheim again this year. Unfortunately, I won’t be doing athlete assistance or escorting since I don’t have time . I’m looking to be a replay camera operator again.
  9. Spain took gold in the women’s Halfpipe @Jur @Cobi All signs are pointing towards a good Beijing 2022 for Spain.
  10. Krueger’s moves after a spat with the US team, and by sheer luck, they have Hungarian roots.
  11. Desmet is actually Belgian right? I remember him from the 2016 YOG, and 2018 WG
  12. In case you haven’t noticed, Poland and Papua New Guinea aren’t exactly equal. There is still uncontacted people living in Papua New Guinea, the same cannot be said for Poland. Also, Poland can participate in the Winter Olympics, while PNG cannot.
  13. That’s why I think Mixed Doubles should have its quota increased to 16 pairs.
  14. You’re asking a man who’s written a paper, modern response, and full breakdown of that poem that question It quickly became my favorite poem after its appearance in the ceremony. The genius of it is mind blowing. Thanks What do you mean by “actual sports questions”?
  15. Sorry about that @Shravan Kumar . I’m still learning the new plugin. It was a simple coding error. It’s fixed now, so if you take the quiz again, you can the see the explanations
  16. Oh, are the explanations not showing up? They’re supposed to be there
  17. Alright, that’s 3 hours or my life I’ll never get back. After a lot more work than you would think is necessary (and 2 system crashes), I present my masterpiece : https://games24.totallympics.com/?p=1677 Any/all feedback on format, questions, answers, etc. would/will be appreciated. This is my first attempt at a quiz on this matter, so hopefully it’s done in a manner people like. I’m aiming for us to publish at least one trivia post a week.
  18. Never thought I’d see the day when would win a World Cup medal in Sailing
  19. Yeah He really deserves that quota honestly. I was bummed when he missed out at the Pan American Games, so I’m glad he got it done here.
  20. Yeah NASCAR overshadows the Indy 500 in the US. Most people have heard of the Indy 500, Monaco Grand Prix, and LeMans 24. Sebring 12 and Daytona 24 are a big deal in the US. Sebring 24 seems awfully long
  21. It’s weird to see Indy on here as the “most important”. It’s maybe in top 5 of most important races in the US. I do agree it definitely is up there though, but I’d still say LeMans is the crown jewel of autosport. I think if we were to rank by type, it would look like this Endurance: LeMans 24 Rally: Dakar Open-Wheel: Monaco/Indy Stockcar: Daytona 500 Supercar: Bathurst 100 Moto: Isle Man TT
  22. Yes, it’s a good thing the Olympics are for everyone.
  23. Right, but we also will get to see outside of Rugby, Athletics, and Swimming
