So the Portuguese delegation has also arrived to the Olympic Village! They are happy with the location, but - just like every other nation I think - were a bit chocked with the conditions they faced there: dirty apartments, some of them with no water or gas problems, and with plumbing problems.... They also say, however, that the situation has been reported and they're told that it will be fixed soon Atletas Portugueses Encontram Apartamentos Sujos e sem Água

Portugal's NOC rejects any concrete goal regarding the number of expected medals at Rio 2016. The official NOC goal was to qualify more than 76 athletes (our athletes at London 2012), and that goal has been achieved, Nevertheless, our press states that, despite not saying it in public, the expected goal should be one medal, with an excelent scenario to be leaving Rio with two medals.

Happy for the World Cup qualification, but I'm sad to see them loosing that bad after a good start in the match. Still, semi-finals is great achievement, and France totally deserved the win Congrats to them, and may the best win next Sunday!

Well, I keep talking about and inviting people I know to join/take a look at Totallympics, but i find it really difficult on a "Football-only" country such as my one..

This would be great but I'm not sure that the national tv channels - that acquire the expensive broadcast rights - would be happy with that... Here our national public tv channel (RTP) will broadcast some of the sports (usually it's available on their stream player, RTP PLAY), but the full 24/7 live sports broadcaster is a paid tv channel, SPORT TV, which I guess would loose a lot of ratings if their shown content were available on youtube....

Yap, that's also my thoughts! The idea is good, but gets easily boring after a while without having player battles...

This game arrived last week here, and now I see everywhere people in groups of 3/4 slowly walking around while looking at their phones (i call them "walkers", as in Walking Dead ). It's generating a lot of Pokemon haters (probably because everyone else is playing it), but I find the game's idea funny and interesting! There's a pokestop where I work, and people keep putting there stuff to attract Pokemons, so I kind of caught a lot of them without moving

I would say is very tight: hockey has the advantage of having the three big football teams playing on our national hockey league (futsal only has Sporting and Benfica), but due to the increased rivalry between Sporting and Benfica on this past years, Futsal has gained a lot of tv ratings ( http://desporto.sapo.pt/futsal/artigo/2015/06/15/futsal-sporting-benfica-em-futsal-com-audiencias-recorde sorry they don't have english version ). So my opinion is that Futsal is more popular during national leagues (specially the final phase), but hockey is still more popular on Euro/Worlds (because the only team sport we can actually win something ) -

That's my opinion as well Though I think the sport will probably allways survive here, as it takes a big part on the several sport's rivalries between the three big football teams fans (some people really take those rivalries too much serious.... and they end up ruining the sports with their agressive behaviour ), probably one of the most important for fans after football itsell and Futsal. -

Yes I know, like I said people here really like the sport and celebrate its victories really loud They are particular popular because our three big football teams (Benfica, Porto and Sporting) have their own hockey teams and the rivalry between the three teams is so big that people do care a lot about the national hockey championship, just to make sure their team is ahead of the other two i dont like like it because: 1- I don't like the game (can't stand the 4 wheel roller skating, that sounds like a child's roller skating to me sorry); 2 - probably only 3/4 countries in the world play/care about that, so the euro/worlds are sometimes ridiculous (0-8 on a semifinal?) -

Men's Roller Hockey European Championship just ended, Portugal won in the final 6-2 Italy People here are really happy with the championship as Roller hockey is very popular in Portugal. (though personally I hate the sport, I'm more a Field/Ice hockey fan ) -
[forget that post, I was misleaded by some wrong tv news hahaha ]
-
Coincidentally there was a related news about this Teo topic on today's newspaper http://www.ojogo.pt/futebol/1a-liga/sporting/noticias/interior/jogos-olimpicos-sao-fuga-para-teo-gutierrez-5288739.html

Actually, here on our TV they say Sporting is trying to get rid of Teo (I think he wants to leave the club) but can't find anyone who can pay for him what Sporting wants, so they're sending him to the Olympics as a showcase to the world hoping someone wants him
-
Well, I'm not 100% sure about this, but what they say here is that the Olympic competition is not an official FIFA Calendar competition, and because of that the teams don't have the obligation to release their players
-
This, btw, is why I think male football should be OUT of the Olympics. I love football, but either you send the best or it's not real olympic competition. Right now, olympic male football is nothing more than a big joke.

Good news everyone! Portugal olympic team has officially a squad! And thats it, that's the only thing good on those news. Why? Because, due to the unavailability of the teams to allow their players to go to the Olympics (and because some of them are tired from the Euro 2016 they won just days ago), from the initial 35 players that our manager picked to the pre-Olympic squad, only 11 were available!!! (including all the best players we had) But wait, there's more! This is such a ridiculous situation that our squad of 18 players has... 17 players!! Because 18 minutes (!!!!) before the official squad presentation, one of the 18 players was declined by his team to be in Rio! Here is the team anyway: GK: Bruno Varela e Joel Pereira; DF: Edgar Ié, Ricardo Esgaio, Tiago Ilori and Tobias Figueiredo; MF: André Martins, Bruno Fernandes, Sturgeon, Francisco Ramos, Sérgio Oliveira, Tiago Silva and Tomás Podstawski; FW: Carlos Mané, Gonçalo Paciência, Nuno Santos and Salvador Agra

Though we don't have ignorant comments, you just remembered me of a ignorant commentator we had, who used to disrespectfully talk during national anthems on football matches, and that sometimes started to talk stupid things like "And here you see, Spanish players and supporters refuse to sing the Spanish anthem as they are angry with their government!" (Spanish anthem has no lyrics..... )
