  1. Precisely my feelings I try to compare with some portuguese medalists that were born in other countries (Obikwelu, silver in 2004 100m, born in Nigeria but living in Portugal since 1994; or Nelson Evora, gold in 2008 triple jump, from cape verde, but in Portugal since he was 5), who you can see they really are proud on representing Portugal, and they are inspiration to people here. So I think: "if those guys were only 'tranfered' to Portuguese team, would I be proud? What would be the feeling of going out there and saying 'hell yeah, we did it! Portugal!!!' ?"
  2. hahaha, i understand Coincidentially, I'm actually undecided between a Portuguese speaking vs English speaking song for this contest The past contests Portugal (which, so far, unfortunately, it's just me ) sent two songs in portuguese, with very tipical and traditional sounds and instruments, because I wanted to show everyone my countries song (even if it wouldn't get any points). This year I'm thinking of showing a band that has nothing about traditional, but it's very well known here, and I think would be great to show them to the world (even if no one likes it ). But i'm still undecided! (and hoping for a new portuguese user to appear to help me on choosing )
  3. Actually, from my top 3 in this year's annual contest, two were in english and the other was half english/half native (the algerian one). Not because of the language, just because I enjoyed listening to the songs. I honestly don't really care if it's in english or arabic or spanish, I just like the idea of finding new music from around the world
  4. Yeah I have nothing against having other nation's athletes playing for other national team if they're really into the nation they're representing, I was just wondering if on Italy's "brazilian team" they were there because of money or if because of really wanting to represent Italy. Now I'm wondering if Portugal has also an "international" team...
  5. Yap, only that instead of being in a news site, they broadcast it live on television, so from time to time our national tv would show airplanes landing....
  6. You should see my city on 2010 during the NATO meeting (with Putin), or 2007 during the European Union Treaty of Lisbon..... In such a peaceful city in a peaceful country with no wars and no terrorists, having full military security (some of them foreigners) and having main streets closed with police everywhere, that was quite a surprise Ah, and our media spent all day filming the airplanes arrivals from the "big countries" bosses, like "here comes the airplane from Obama/Putin/Merkel!"....
  7. Well, almost a huge surprise in Madrid Not bad from Sporting, it's a good start in a group where the only goal will probably be to hold on to the 3rd place. They lost, but at least they didn't leave Madrid with a 0-7 score. The other portuguese team, Porto, is playing worst every week, drawing at home with Copenhaguen, this team does not deserve to go to the next phase...
  8. I was surprised, I thought Benfica would win. Despite a lot of injuries on their main team, they're usually strong at home, and this was a very important match (assuming that Napoli will win the group, the second place will be discussed between the other 3 and not winning at home... not a good start). Tonight I expect mixed lucks for portuguese teams: Fc Porto to win (they are with several internal problems but still I think they're better than Kobenhavn), and Sporting to loose badly in Bernabeu...
  9. Wasn't he against this new Champions League format that benefits the top 4 leagues? I wonder if this means some change on that new format...
  10. Wow, didn't know that. That doesn't sound much fair to me... But are the players already living there or are they just "transfered" to the nation? I mean, this teams like Italy or Kazakhstan whose squads are majority foreigners, are they just taking advantage of some foreigners that already lived there, or are they "mercenaries"? (like Qatar Handball team)
  11. Ah ok! Btw, isn't Italy that also has around 7 or 8 brazilian players? Is this a common thing in futsal? (i don't follow futsal, thus the question )
  12. Why mercenary?
  13. Eh, almost forgot that it's time for TISC! After the successfull debut last year, of course Portugal will participate again! I look forward to listen to more music from around the world
  14. Hahaha, it's ok, I would have guessed that from your profile avatar Besides, I admit the Brazilian Portuguese is easier to understand (we say that they speak with "open mouth", while we here speak with "closed mouth") so maybe that makes it more likeable for foreigners I think the only people I met who prefered the "original" Portuguese were the ones that had been here visiting the country
  15. Yeah, just like I thought, this is BRAZILIAN Portuguese (there are much more brazilian portuguese speakers so it's normal that at many places, when I see things in Portuguese, they are in Brazilian Portuguese ) Portuguese (from Portugal) is quite different in accent, and I believe it's a bit harder for foreigners than the Brazilian version. In any case, I think his Brazilian Portuguese was quite good!
  16. Hahahaha, I laught with the spanish anthem That was not that good portuguese pronunciation, but I enjoyed the effort, I recognized it's a bit difficult to speak our language. Great work anyway! (I wonder if he would do the same for all olympic nations? hahaha )
  17. Well then, I guess it's the end of the Draws for us! This was not a bad match (despite the result), though the defense had some serious fails... Ronaldo being out of the match is something that really matters, not only because he plays good (obvious) but because he usually does a good job as a captain. I'll hope that after this match they can get down back to earth again and understand that the fact of being European Champion means only the trophee, they need to keep playing hard if they want to be in Russia
  18. So today Portugal begins World Cup qualification! We are gonna face Switzerland (without Ronaldo ), the most difficult opponent in our group, and our coach said that, as European Champions, we must continue what we've done last June and that allowed our nation to win the Euro. So, with that in mind, I say the result will probably be a draw!
  19. Well, she didn't seemed popular on the last elections either (at least according to the news that I saw here about people in the streets shouting against Dilma), but at the end she won....
  20. Yeah I have this question too! I would guess that's because if they had elections, Dilma would candidate herself and win again?
  21. Still better than Portugal, 57 points against Poland (83 - 57) This is a sport I know for sure it's almost impossible for our country to do something with it, as we're a nation of "short people" comparing to most of Europe
  22. Oh I didn't knew that there was actually a real law for that! Well, in that case I undersant (don't agree, but different countries, diferent rules, so I respect). Is the law reffering to going to Israel only, or it has also something about facing an opponent from that country? Btw, has ever been any situation where Israel and Iran had to face in any team sports?
  23. What happens on this situations, if the team needs the player and he refuses to go? Will he be punished/fired?
  24. I'm actually a big fan of Canada women's team since 2012, I remember watching one of the most exiting football matches I ever seen at the London Olympics Semifinal! I admit I was cheering for USA (wanted badly to see a rematch of the 2011 World Cup final) but I earn a lot of respect for your nations team (specially for Sinclair, amazing on that match!)
  25. But with this new format the money will allways be to the strongest league teams, which means the difference between the top 4/5/6 leagues and the remaining ones will get higher.... I understand the feeling, I also don't like to see a Champions League match ending in 6-0, but if those teams aren't allowed to go to Champions League, how will Uefa contribute to the diversification of good football around Europe??
