  8. You know the world has gone mad when Italy doesn't win a single gold medal in fencing, but they win the 100m. Can't wait for Jamaica to win men's foil in 2024.

  9. So, Medal. The most surprising medal in sport hitory of Slovakia, I assume. No one absolutely no one expected this, I believe even not Rory himself, especially after yesterdays disaster. But an absolutely amazing OR of 61 in a single day catapulted him to an absolutely unbelievable silver medal. Very well done and congrats Rory. Medal number 31 for in SOG history since the independence, 14th silver (10 - 14 - 7) Obviously first ever Golf medal. Golf is now the 8th sport in which the country medalled at the summer Olympics since our first appearance in 1996. Also mentionworthy this was the Slovak debut in this sport and it ended by a medal.

  14. Well, now I can write a little bit more. I'm fully aware that Rebeca didn't have good landings. This is not the vault final I envisioned, to be honest. Beautiful form in the air, but the landings were not great. Still, a fair result, especially considering that Skinner's vaults are lower in height and not as great in execution -- except for the landings, which of course were better. But for those who don't understand, the landings on Rebeca's vaults were deducted around 0.1 to 0.3 each, so no big deal in the end. This is how the Code of Points works. Skinner did so well to keep her mental fortitude. She went from a retired gymnast after qualifications to an Olympic silver medalist. I'm not a fan of her political ideas, but as a gymnast her life story is very touching and she deserves this medal. Yeo Seo-jeong went through all the trouble to create a new vault, with the highest difficulty in the final and the biggest single score. I was following the tweets about the training sessions before this final, and Yeo crashed all her attempts, so the fact that she hit in the final and got a medal is amazing. Another fairy tale story here came true. Moreno had the best vaults in her career and missing a medal by such a small margin must be heartbreaking. I hope she sticks around for 2024, and I hope Olsen also keeps training because she has enough potential to be a medalist if she improves her execution. Her vaults were not the cleanest, but the difficulty was high. Carey had a terrible day. I'm glad she's okay, but it was hard to watch. Good news is that she will perform on floor finals and she's the favorite for the gold medal thanks to her level of difficulty alone, which is the highest among all competitors -- provided Biles decides not to compete there. Overall, a very interesting final with LOTS of hard vaults. This was probably the final with the highest combined level of difficulty across all competitors in Olympic history. Either this or Beijing, but I still think this takes the cake for the sheer number of Cheng vaults alone.

  19. Probably Thiago will explain this more professionally this is copied from Wikipedia: In the vault final, Carey finished eighth. In the running phase of her first vault, Carey was off on her steps and performed only a tucked Yurchenko, a vault with a difficulty score of 3.3. She went on and successfully performed her second vault, an Amanar with a difficulty of 5.8, but was deducted two point points for performing two vaults with the same entry and for performing two backwards rotating vaults. The expert on Eurosport said that a less experienced vaulter might have crashed into or under the vaulting table instead (if I remember correctly)

  20. Actually I thought the second vault was beautiful, more so than the first. Also, let's remember that McKayla Maroney won a silver medal with this same vault even with a fall. A small hop it's nothing compared to that

  21. I understand your frustration, but it all comes down to what the Code of Points considers good execution. You see, in every skill we have to consider how cleanly it's performed in the air (legs glued together, toes pointed, clear body position in the air, great height and amplitude) and how well it is landed. One small step or small hop deducts -0.1, a medium/big step or hop deducts -0.3. Yeo had the hardest vault of the competition, worth 6.2, and she needs massive speed and air time to get it fully rotated, which she does. The deductions on landing, apart from steps and hops, also consider deep landings (up to -0.5 in deductions), but her landing was not that deep and probably avoided a bigger deduction. If the gymnast lands with her chest down, the deductions could be -0.1, -0.3 or -0.5. Moreno unfortunately loses -0.3 to -0.5 due to her low chest position. Her form in the air is also not as tidy as Yeo's, and her vaults are not that high. Deductions for the height of the vault can be massive, up to -0.8! There are lots of things to be balanced. That's why I mentioned that Zapata has poor execution, despite great landings today, because his body shape and leg positions are usually not good. Even so, he lost little to no tenths on landings and got a medal. Dolgopyat has much cleaner body shape in the air and even though some of his landings were not great, he still managed to lose as little as 0.1 in landings. Take Andrade for example: she only loses 0.2 (0.1 for each hop) on the landing of her second vault. It doesn't look good for us, of course, and one can imagine she will be deducted a lot more, but the Code of Points only allows for a 0.2 deduction (plus small 0.1 deductions for things like deviation from a straight line and so on). When it comes to the more hefty deductions like height and dynamics of the vault, Skinner loses a lot while Andrade loses very little. This is also the same for Yeo and Moreno.
