The world record holder and defending world champion in the 200m backstroke, Reagan Smith, failed to qualify in that event. She was third at the US trials.

Day 1 Canada qualifiers (not official, but hit the A standard in the final). "Selection committee" will make the ultimate call due to Covid 19.

Women's 100m butterfly: Maggie McNeil (56.19) and Katerine Savard (57.86)
Men's 100m butterfly: Joshua Liendo (51.72), had 51.40 in prelims.
Women's 100m backstroke:  Kylie Masse (57.70, new NR) and Taylor Ruck (59.60)
    Men's 100m backstroke: Markus Thormeyer (53.40), Cole Pratt (53.54)
Women's 400m freestyle: Surprisingly no one hit the A standard. I'd expect them to still name two people here.
Men's 400m freestyle: No one with the standard.

A gold medal in any team sport would go down as one of the biggest moment in Canadian sports history. Canada hasn't won a gold medal in any summer team sport since ice hockey was in the summer Olympics.

For the individual events, Micheal Woods winning the men's road race. It would be the perfect way for Canada to start the Olympics, and the road race is personally one of my favourite Olympic event.

I missed it, but  Shapovalov also out. 5 of the current top 15 ATP players won´t be in Tokyo (Nadal, Thiem, Bautista Agut, Ruud, Shapo). Still a few more days to withdraw, so brace yourselves.

"the Summer equivalent of Prince Albert of Monaco"? Seriously?

Johannessen may very well be on the way to a European Tour Card, Campos is on the PGA Tour, Yuan (at the moment) on the way to a PGA Tour card, Gavin Green is on the European Tour and Zanotti the same. That's the bottom five at the moment all on (or with chances of reaching) the top 2 tours.

The main issue is that the golf schedule is already packed and the Olympics haven't got the prestige (yet). Plenty of major golfers still feel strongly about participating and some of those who withdrew 5 years ago have made it clear that they regret doing so.
The universality is a major part of the Olympics and one of few things that still show some of the spirit of the first Olympic Games. Making a selection where even decent golfing nations like Denmark and Germany would struggle to qualify (in the men's tournament) would make things so unolympic that even I as a supporter of Olympic golf would say that it should be left out!

I don't think it was, you can see him poking the ball with his off foot when he's trying to clear the second time, which is why he whiffed. Looks like he wasn't really paying attention for the first clear attempt (this was just after half time) and panicked during his second clear attempt.

Either way it's an all time terrible own goal.

Just watched in our TV news Richard Varga so disappointed real heartbreaker. Explaining how he missed the qualification with that already mentioned stupid DSQ in Leeds (swimming in front of everybody else as usual and turned the buoy from the wrong side) and that finish in Mexico where he lost the quota by literally 6 seconds (exactly 4 places)

Now he´ll stay in Slovakia, (he was informed to stay prepared as being the first reserve for any eventual reallocation that can be announced from any time now until 1 week before the Olympic race,... however he personally does not believe it will happen) and continue to train individually but will have hard time to find the moral strength to continue his career, if it will be in vain...

Hi everyone.  Long time no see.  Long story short, I've had difficulty signing in here for about a year now, but I've been following along.  Thank you to everyone here that is keeping everything up to date.

Thank you to everyone recently who has been keeping me up to date on all the Olympic qualifying and summaries.  It's been a crazy last few months (for everyone, I'm sure) so I haven't had a chance to look into things myself.  This site is always a great source for everything Olympics.

I'm living in Beijing currently, looking forward to the Olympics here next year.  I live very close to some venues.  But first Tokyo!

Thanks again to everyone!  GO HABS GO!

are qualified even before the last round

that also means we will have the full list of continental quotas for women's events

Oceania: Anacan (Kata - Rank 9)
    Africa: Sayed (55kg - Rank 11)
    America: Grande (61kg - Rank 9)
    Asia: Alipour (61kg - Rank 6)
    Europe: Plank (55kg - Rank 14)
Pan-Am last quota: Dimitrova (Kata - Rank 11)

2 wild cards will be avaible in +61kg but only is eligible for that.

that means even if MNE takes that Wild Card, will take the unused TC quota.

I will double check everything later today. but that's my understandings from the rules. of course I might be wrong completely.

He literally just posted a screenshot of the rankings (from the .pdf)...

And even though his rank is not colored, he somehow assumed he must have qualified by being ahead of NZ...

It's just a dumb mistake. IWF did not inform him (or our NOC) of anything, so there is no grounds for some appeal (that would be crazy, in fact).

sad to be said, but this farce is the perfect end of a crazy, completely wrong and messed up qualification procedure...

WKF did everything to justify their exclusion just after the Tokyo Olympics...

they wanted Kata in, sacrifying 2 weight classes for each gender in Kumite, they accepted to have only an odd number of athletes per event (10) when normally we have more than 100 competitors in each class at the world champs, they put on a shameful and not understandable (and even prone to manipulation) qualification system, they chose the more than controversial round robin system for the final phase of the one and only global qualification tournament and finally, this one...

with all the love I feel for the sport, this is just unacceptable and they deserve to be kicked out from the next Games...

I truly hope they would eventually understand all of their mistakes and find the way to comeback with a better and fair product in the future, but I fear that's almost impossible with such kind of officials running the WKF...

right now, I'm excited for the opportunity to watch the Olympic tournament, but at the same time I'm really sad for the poor management of all this and the consequential lack of perspective in the next future...
