  5. Great Olympic spirit rom Arthur Lannigan-O’Keeffe. I hope he recovers fine and can see him in Paris. However Alvaro was allocated a place in the original list, so he should have tagged Duilio Carrillo, who was confirmed today by both UIPM & COM So +1 quota for Mexico @hckošice @Benolympique

  7. Can't confirm all the details yet but has never had a team with more than 80 in it and we will be over 100 in Tokyo (having 26 from Hockey and rugby helps...) The most sports we've ever been represented in has been 14 and we're at 19 so far.

  11. With the end of swimming trials, we begin with athletics on Friday. Events with Olympic ramifications to look out for Friday: 400m hurdles women: Noelle Montcalm, with a SB and win will move into 38th in the WR (top 40 qualify) Men's decathlon: Taylor Ehrhardt begins his comeback, with a lot of injuries the last few years. Will need a 600+ PB to get the standard to qualify. 400m men: Osei/Misner Daley need the standard to qualify, both off by just over half a second 100m women: Bingham needs the standard atp to qualify. She is just 0.01 off from her SB 100m men: Whoever wants to make the team needs the standard. Smellie is currently in a WR spot, the other two De Grasse/Boateng not competing. Long jump men: Jared Kerr is back, 8.14 PB, will need 8.22 to qualify 800w: Butterworth/Bishop/Kelly need good times (2:00) or less and a top 3 finish to clinch a spot Women's steeplechase: Yee/Butterworth with a top 3 finish and timings around their PB (9:31) should get them a WR spot, but they should honestly go for the standard to guarantee their spots.

  21. More WTA drama in Ostapenko vs Kasatkina QF. Lineswoman snitched on Ostapenko for telling "bitch" after a bad point. Then chair umpire fluffed the score in the final game in Ostapenko's favor (called 15-15 when it should have been 0-30). Ostapenko won the match in three sets.

    Shooting ISSF World Cup 2021

20-year young William Shaner won the men's Air Rifle in the Osijek World Cup stage... Vladimir Maslennikov got silver and home Nation's hero Petar Gorsa won the bronze medal... not a good day for the Indian specialists, as it was not a good day for the Indian women in the same discipline (no one of them are in the final, where we have 2 Italians -and that's a big surprise)... women's 10m Air Rifle final is underway right now (live on Youtube)...

  32. Yeah, Csaba Sós said that he wants to give every eligible athlete a chance to gain some "Olympic experience". I think this has always been our mentality in sports where the qualification isn't as crazy hard and not really an achievement itself. I have seen a few naysayers who think that it's a waste of money, and while that's a fine argument against it, honestly, there are far worse cases where we throw money out of the window for sport events, like the crazy expensive World Aquatics Championships, or any of our new venues like the "largest handball arena in Europe" that nobody really asked for here, but we are still building it for ECh2022 and to rival with Cologne for the Champions League Final 4 hosting rights. Compared to all of that waste and corruption, at least the extra money we are spending on a larger Olympic team is for the athletes who worked hard over the years.

  34. I am sorry but I would strongly disagree with this opinion.... Every athlete is unique and has his/her own story .... It's like when someone from said that Dafne Schippers got injured and reply would be: Worry not, you still have dressage team as a medal contestant ...... P.S. no wishing anyone injury, just giving an example...

  41. https://sports3.gr/ethniki-gynaikon-polo-psigmata-elpidas-gia-symmetochi-stoys-olympiakoys-toy-tokio/ According to this, there is still a chance that South Africa's women will withdraw and Greece will take their spot. The FINA president informed Greece about it during the World League super final which was just held in Athens. So now the Greek girls are still training (in a combined training camp with Canada). We even got two girls who didn't compete in the World League to come back to the team for this training camp.

  42. no, they didn't return any quota place... they got an additional spot because there were no more athletes (Countries) eligible for the continental quota places and they (Bellandi and the Korean, I mean) were the highest ranked fighters left out according to the overall standings (all classes in each gender)... basically, it's correct to say that ITA and KOR got reallocated spots from CQP...

  43. Huge kudos to Iran for holding their own. This dual flag bearer idea really just removes individuality of the athletes and reduces them to their gender... It's patronizing and presumptuous. And all that to appease that tiny minority which obsesses over stuff like the exact gender count.

  44. Amazing story for Marie Horáčková. Her mom Barbora represented Czech at the Beijing Olympics but passed away 3 years ago. Her daughter follows her footsteps and I am pretty sure it's gonna be her to be names for the Olympic squad!!

  45. So incredible for Evangelia Psarra to make it once again! She is going to her sixth Olympics! Only two other Greeks have also gone to six Olympics (one in sailing and one in shooting). In a sport where Greece is basically nonexistent, she has been flying our flag for two decades. Really proud of her. I didn't expect her to make it this time but so happy she did. She is 47 years old and made her Olympic debut in Sydney when she was 26 and never missed the Olympics since. I think she said that if she makes it to Tokyo this will be the last time for her. What a nice story.

  46. Sławomir Napłoszek (born in 1968) who qualified for Tokyo today in men's archery particated in olympics previously in Barcelona 1992. So it was 29 years ago... I think it is a record achievement in Polish olympics history, And I guess it will be also one of the bigest gaps in wordwide olympic history.
