  1. well exactly at the same time we lost two medal chances in Fencing and Taekwondo but right now who cares wow gold medal in shooting ! Foroughi was dominant this season but still this is Olympics. nobody really expected him to win a medal. I guess for few minutes Iran will be 2nd in the medal table. also this is the first time since 1976 that Iran win a medal in the first day of the Olympics

  5. Already 28 countries after Day 1 compared to Rio (20 countries and one event more back then). Having taekwondo early helps. Australia and USA with the worst start compared to Rio ( 2-0-1; 1-4-0) but no swimming finals have been held yet. On the other hand, China has started very well in terms of gold medal placing compared to 5 years ago ( 0-2-3).

  6. In a nation of amazing fencers, especially in men's sabre, Szilágyi might be the greatest we have ever had. The Olympics is what truly counts in fencing, and somehow he's just unstoppable here.

  8. Korea gold, though An San is not looking that good, individually she could face tough competition. 3 mexicans in the podium if we count Gabriela Bayardo who was born in Tijuana, same city which I live in Congrats to the medal winners!

  11. Well yeah badminton messed up but no problem I don’t know how famous the show outside Asia, but “Masquerade” or Kasou Taisou is basically my childhood. Even my brother and sister who was uninterested with the whole ceremony stopped to watch that section. He’s present at the presscon, probably clarified about the badminton mistake

    Olympic Games 2020 League

DAY 1 REPORT Welcome to the first daily report of the 2020 Olympics League! The first competition day went pretty well with lots of ups and downs and random out-of-nowhere rises to the top of the standings. A total of 43 NOCs earned at least a point today with Kosovo as the "winner" of Day 1 and current total standing leader. The Fight for the Top The league competition day started with a Chinese shooter Quin Yang's victory and Switzerland's rise to 1st place in the standings post-multipliers. Then Iran took the lead after it's shooter Javad Foroughi won his discipline and the NOC held on to the lead until Ecuador's Richard Carapaz won the men's cycling road race and let his country's Olympic team go up to 1st place. But Ecuador's reign ended in around 2 hours when the Kosovian judoka Distria Krasniqi won the NOC's only second Olympic gold and gave them the lead in the standings and, despite the efforts of other NOCs to end their glory, Kosovo took the day "victory" at the end of it and carries on it's lead to Sunday. The Great 8 This segment of the daily reports will talk about the Top 8 Olympic teams of the total standings and their work throughout the day, so let's begin! 8th: Belgium Belgium today competed in 2 points giving events and did pretty well in both, earning 5th in the Weightlifting Women's -49kg Group A and in the total standings and earning a silver medal in the Men's Road Cycling Race thanks to Sterckx and van Aert respectively, earning 22 points pre- and 88 points post-multipliers, just edging out their Benelux buddies Netherlands. Other than that, not really that much to say, except "Good luck!" 7th: China China have been above and beyond the best team yesterday (or today, belongs where you live) with 3 golds and 1 bronze to their tally and a couple of top 8 appearances in other disciplines too. Pre and post-multipliers their points tally today stays the same: 91. Unbelievable for a team with no outside help and considering the fact that some other big in both team size and population countries struggled badly to even earn points today. 6th: Italy Italy had a pretty poor start to the day, not earning a single point, but they had some in the pipeline and they helped. A ton. Italy is currently sitting in the medal tally with a gold and a silver, add in some nice points finishes and it is currently running with 49 points before and 98 after the multipliers. Italy friendly ripped it's Eurovision "Big Five" buddies into pieces today, but it's only the beggining and the other four can always backfire, so Italy must continue the decent results. 5th: Ecuador Richard Carapaz. 4th: Hungary Same with Italy, they've had a poor start with points in the pipeline and the team ended the day with a gold from Aron Szilagyi in Men's Fencing Individual Sabre and a 5th from Omar Salim in Taekwondo Men's -58kg to their name, totalling up to 29 points and 116 post-multipliers. An excellent way to start before the aquatics kick in to this league. 3rd: Serbia Serbia is currently the only team in the top 5 of the standings to not have a gold medal yet, instead benefiting from a silver from Mikec in Men's Shooting 10m Air Pistol and a bronze in Taekwondo Women's -49kg from Bogdanovic, adding up to 30 points and a whopping 120 after the multiplier treatment, only a 7th place away from taking the lead from what I think are their biggest enemies. Again, nothing else to say, let's move on to 2nd: South Korea Unbelievable push by them, 1 gold in the Archery Mixed Team and 2 bronzes and a massive 61 point tally today and 122 after multipliers are applied. South Korea managed to take advantage of the disciplines with a gold medal game today as they were pretty favouring to them and China and that's why they are 1-2 in the pre-multiplier points tally. They will probably fall in the standings later in the 'lympics but the sign of that happening isn't there. 1st: Kosovo Distria Krasniqi. Yes, I reused the same joke as before. Cry about it. /s And that concludes the Great 8 segment, now time for the announcement moment. I am converting the standings to Google Sheets to make them more convenient for me and more detailed for you. I will still post the top 10 of both the day and the total standings with the country/state flags together with some fun trivia too, but the rest only stay in the Sheets. Hopefully you like this idea and this report and if you don't, you can give your critizisms or/and recommendations to improve the delivery of this whole thing on this thread.

  17. Cool to see Zonderland did fantastic and seems to be a medal favourite. At least, that's judging by Dutch NOS showing his high bar routine at least 6 times so far throughout the day and mostly ignoring Deurloo (because 'we' don't know Deurloo, and we all know Epke, so yeah). Weirdly, the actual results seem to say something different

  35. USA Olympics Recap Day 1 Archery: I was thinking our Mixed Team would win against Indonesia and get a possible medal but alas we lost in the first round with an 18-20 shootout score after a underwhelming 8 point arrow from Ellison. Here's to hoping the rest of our Archery competitions goes well for us. Basketball 3x3: Women's We win our first two matches. 17-10 vs France and 21-9 vs Mongolia Badminton: Men's Doubles In the first day of Group Stages Phillip and Ryan Chew lost 0-2 to Jun Hui Li and Yu Chen Lio of China who were seeded 3rd. I'm not expecting Phillip and Ryan Chew to win a match in their group but should still be interesting and hopefully close matches on July 26th and 27th. Boxing: Men's Featherweight Our featherweight boxer Duke Ragan beat Samuel Kistohurry of France 3-2, which advances him to the Round of 16 where he will face Serik Temirzhanov of Kazakhstan Men's Welterweight Delante Johnson won his match 3-2 against Brian Arregui of Argentina Women's Featherweight Yarisel Ramierez lost her opening round match 0-5 against Nikolina Cacic of Croatia Fencing: Women's Individual Epee Kelley Hurley started in the RO32 against Erika Kirpu of Estonia where she narrowly won 15-14. She then went onto the RO16 and narrowly lost 11-12 to Murtazaeva of ROC . Else where in the RO32 Kathrine Holmes lost 12-15 to Song Se-ra of Korea . Kathrine's sister Courtney Hurley lost 8-15 in the RO32 match against Zhu Mingye of China Men's Individual Sabre On the Men's side in Sabre, Andrew Mackiewicz won in the RO64 15-13 against Shimaura of Japan . Later in the RO32 he lost 7-15 to Sang-uk from South Korea . Daryl Homer lost his initial match 11-15 in the RO32 against Amer of Egypt . Our hopeful medalist Eli Derschwitz who is seeded 2nd won his initial RO32 match 15-9 against Streets of Japan . He then got upset 9-15 by 15th seed Jung-hwan of South Korea. Football: Women's We got back to our winning ways against New Zealand where we won with a score of 6-1. Shooting: 10m Air Rifle Women's We had two competitors in the Qualification round for this event. Mary Carolynn Tucker and Alison Marie Weisz. Weisz finished 14th with a score of 626.9 meanwhile, Tucker finished 3rd with a score of 631.4 which has now qualified her to the finals where hopefully she can score our first medal of Tokyo! In the final Mary Tucker unfortunately went out of the competition in 6th place. She will be back in action on July 31st in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions. 10m Air Pistol Men's In the qualification round both our competitors failed to make it into the top 8 to reach the finals. James Hall placed 10th with a score of 577 meanwhile Nick Mowrer placed 13 with a score of 576. Softball: We continue our winning streak with a 2-0 win over setting us up well in the top four. Table Tennis: Women's Singles In the preliminary rounds Ju Liu (68) upset Oshonaike (53) of Nigeria 4-1 allowing her to advance to the first round where she will play Dvorak (43) of Spain . Men's Singles In the preliminary round Kumar (55) won his match 4-1 against Enkhbat (65) of Mongolia. Kumar will now play against Mino (46) of Ecuador . Volleyball: Men's We win our opening match 3-0 against France Water Polo: Women's Our Women's team wins their first 25-4 match in the group stage against Japan . Great start for the team as we should at least get top 3 in our group. Weightlifting: Women's 49kg Our medalist hopeful Jourdan Delacruz was unable to get a successful Clean & Jerk after scoring a 86kg Snatch round. Personal Thoughts: Disappointing day for many of our athletes today. I was hoping for Medals in Mixed Archery, Men's Individual Sabre, Women's 49kg Weightlifting, or Women's 10m Air Rifle. Update: Not sure when I'll sleep but feel free to update the event's that I missed/haven't gotten to yet/slept through. If not I will go back in the morning and update everything!

  38. I am thinking of creating a point system, to create a kind of a league counting all olympic sports results effecting in one table. My idea is this: for every Olympic final teams will be awarded points as follows: 1st-25pts, 2nd-18pts, 3rd-15pts, 4th-8pts, 5th-5pts, 6th-3pts, 7th-2pts, 8th-1pt. For sports that there is no official ranking for positions 5-8, teams that reached quarter finals will be awarded 5pts, as the 5th position takes. In order to make it more "fair" I think to have a multiplier depending on each country's team size and population. I will create an accumulate table containing both numbers and I will create one single ranking depending the positions of each country in those two categories. For example if country A is 5th in population but 10th in team size, that makes 15 in the final ranking. From that final ranking each teams points, in every final, will be multiplied as follows: Teams ranked 1-20: x1 teams ranked 21-50:x2 teams ranked 51-100:x3 teams ranked 101-150: x4 teams ranked 150 and so: x5 Tell me what you think, and maybe someone has a better idea. Improvements needed, and maybe someone would like to help to the calculations. I never done it before, I believe I could make it!

  39. Milad Karimi from Kazakhstan made it to the finals in two apparatus. he has an Iranian father (and a Kazakh mother) few years ago his dad really wanted him to represent Iran, he came here and talked with our Gymnastics federation in two different times. it didn't work out and our federation eventually said "he is not really good enough" so the guy who according to our so-called experts wasn't good enough to make our Gymnastics team (which is very poor) is now in the Olympic final
