  3. Miltiadis Tentoglou jumped 8.60 m in Athens today WL and PB (he previously had 8.32 outdoors and 8.38 indoors). So close to our national record also (8.66) He seemed to be stuck around 8.25-8.35 for a few years despite being very consistent. Happy that now he has surpassed that and really putting himself in a position to win a medal in Tokyo hopefully. I was concerned because he was struggling with injury but this is a great way for him to open his outdoor season (he competed two weeks ago in 100m only)

  5. usually credible sources report that the IOC has agreed to the terms and conditions of the NHL and the NHLPA players' representatives. The IOC will pay for the tickets and overpay the players' insurance policies, which has been the biggest problem in the negotiations so far. The NHL has agreed hat in this conditions will not prevent players from representing their countries in Beijing 2022 and Cortina 2026 and is likely to stop the NHL during the Olympics.

  6. Stop with this super-spreader fear mongering, they are acting as if the Olympics would happen normally without limitations and safety protocols. If the Japanese government wants to pull out, stop building up excuses through the media, do it now and pay the consequences.

  18. Zeina Ibrahim qualified with a decent score, on par with the ones who qualified at the World Championships. Naveen Daries also qualified, but with a very low score. Apparently, she fell once in evert apparatus. I really though had it in the bag for the second quota, but I was wrong. Too bad. Both and had already qualified gymnasts at the World Championships. Too bad for Algeria, Nigeria and Cameroon, but hopefully these nations will not get discouraged.

  19. Yeah, they need to update their world ranking format. Not every minor tournament deserves to be given ranking points, nor does the 100th best athlete from a nation should contribute to the ranking. They also need more than 8 teams competing, but that's an IOC issue.
    1 point
  20. One of the things that makes 3x3 a "joke" is how it computes its world rankings. Any country can beat the system by hosting a bunch of local tournaments. For instance, how in the world does Iran able to be the 2nd seed for the women's qualification tournament. If you look at their skills and technique, you would know that they're one of the worst teams of the tournament.

  21. I truly hope IOC has enough common sense and based on their "progress" within past few won't let them participate and reallocate the quota to the country that really deserves to play the Olympic tournament.

  22. Three to be precise. However, To make it clear, people see me always grumble here and there about this topic, I just want to make it clear, I have absolutely nothing against and their sport, it is a power house in many sports, they have great athletes, I cheer many of them personally, also China is able to present great olympics, Beijing 2008 was amazing, 2022 will be for sure as well. I just can not admit how they stole this one home quota only by lobbying of their highest politic representatives at the IIHF and Fasel. A host quota they just do not deserve. I said it many times let make it fair, let them play a qualification match (or 2 or even 3 I have not problem with that) against us. I am fine also with the match being played in China, no problem, let just prove they merit this direct place more than us. That´s all. Otherwise it is just a robbery, and I wish from all my heart McDavid, Draisaitl and co. will show to their governement leaders what idiotic mistake they did for lobbying for this quota.

  24. Yes, Martínez is confirmed. Vicente used to compete in -54 and he isn't good enough to get a medal in -58, unless he improves a lot in the next few weeks. The only chance would be to defeat Brangança and then be lucky with the repechage. This decision doesn't make any sense. The last results of Tortosa weren't as good as they used to be in 2017/18, but at least he had chances to get a medal.

  25. so Martinez is confirmed ?OK then I'm trying to make the brackets based on the world ranking. so I'm interested to know who is going to Tokyo for each country. btw by my count Vicente will be 8th or 9th seed which won't be good for Spain. it will be Braganca (POR) and then Jang (KOR) in the QF. Perez would be the 3rd seed. of course this is not final and any change in the names (like what Spain did) can change the bracket.

  31. It's an overview for next World Championships of Street Skateboarding in Rome, Italy. After WS update on World Ranking we already have an idea about the chances of qualification for these skateboarders. Women's Street I cannot see any girl outside TOP 20 getting podium on this event, so for women's side it will be similar to the qualification for Park. Basically all girls qualifying based on ranking. Those girls look 100% safe to get a quota: Pamela Rosa Rayssa Leal Leticia Bufoni Aori Nishimura Mariah Duran Candy Jacobs Hayley Wilson Ross Zwetsloot As for the brazilians, they only can lose their spots, if any other brazilian gets the podium. I only see Virginia Fortes Aguas and Gabriela Mazzeto with level to do it. Mariah Duran still can lose her spot for the same reason of the brazilians, but only with a very unlikely combination of points and podium for other american skateboarders. Margielyn Arda Didal and Keet Oldenbeuving also look very safe for their quotas. It will be interesting the battle among all the other girls for the left spots. Alana Smith, Poe Pinson, Alexis Sablone and Samarria Brevard for two quotas. Yumeka Oda, Funa Nakayama, Rizu Akama and Momiji Nishiya for two quotas. Kaya Isa and Kotone Nishimura have a small chance as well. It means that five quotas are still in dispute. The pontuation received from Worlds is quite high, so I believe all those countries are in contender to get it: The last spot will be for the best african, for now Boipelo Awuah is getting that, and I don't see this changing.

Team Spain 58 kg: Adrián Vicente 68 kg: Javier Pérez Polo 80 kg: Raúl Martínez 49 kg: Adriana Cerezo Jesús Tortosa, 5th place in Rio and the guy who got the quota, will not go to the Olympics due to his bad relationship with the Spanish federation. Oficially it's because of the low level of Jesus these last months (he had covid and was unable to train for a few weeks, missing the European Championship), but everybody knows that it's a political decision because he and his family have a conflict with the president.

  39. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/may/26/tokyo-olympics-asahi-shimbun-newspaper-games-must-be-cancelled-covid-outbreak-japan A major Japanese newspaper has called for the cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics, warning that the Games pose a threat to public health and will place additional strain on the country’s health service as it struggles to contain the latest wave of coronavirus. In an editorial on Wednesday, the liberal Asahi Shimbun – an official Olympic partner – urged the prime minister, Yoshihide Suga, “to calmly and objectively assess the situation and decide on the cancellation of the event this summer”.
