I'll celebrate the day they kick this joke out of the Olympics for a while

I think you can see most people are happy with Tunisia's win, so your comment is a bit off

My point about this is that it's a) easier to believe and b) more logical that countries where "glory to the Motherland" (or some communist stuff) through sports is so incredibly important, are doping with state help.

For example here in the Netherlands we don't have this extreme "glory to the Motherland" feeling and I don't think there is state-run doping here. Obviously I think there is doping here, but I think it's more private or arranged by the teams itself instead of coming from the sports federations and authorities.

But my main point stays the same: it is a sign of huge weakness when people are saying "Stop it, it's a conspiracy from the big bad wolf against us!" instead of "We're gonna do all we can to clean up this shit".

    1. XX athletes from country X get caught
    2. People in country X respond by saying "omg, conspiracy against us, we're the victims!!"

That doesn't make it any more believable.

I don't think anybody is actually having an issue when you post the daily CAN qualifiers, at least I'm not and I don't hear anyone else complaining

I don't know what's suspicious about that. It's definitely not the extremely childing Russian thing of "OMG it's a Western conspiracy to make us look bad!11!!!!", because if that was the case, Russia wouldn't have voted for the inclusion of meldonium on the WADA list. And besides, that's Russia's standard reaction. They don't like something, they make it "a Western conspiracy". Grow up Russians.

Trust me, there is no way I believe the Dutch skaters in general are clean

But thinking that this whole thing about the Russian state doping is actually a Western conspiracy..nah, no way. Maybe it is easy to make people believe that countries like Russia, China and North Korea are massively doping, but I really don't think this is such a weird thought.

Instead of screaming "OMG it's a conspiracy!" like a frustrated teenage child, it'd be a lot more helpful to take the blame and start cleaning up the mess for real.

heywoodu got a reaction from Wanderer in Medalists at London 2012 not Qualified for Rio 2016
    Hello

I thought it'd be interesting to work on a list of London 2012 medalists who didn't qualify (or likely won't qualify) for Rio 2016. I am specifically talking about athletes/teams who missed out on qualification, not on athletes/teams who simply retired.

    Some basic rules:
    1. Athletes who didn't qualify because they retired at a time they could still technically qualify for Rio won't count
    2. Athletes who didn't qualify because they are banned will only count if they are officially still 2012 medalists (example: no Alptekin)
    3. Athletes who are still active but were apparently not good enough to be selected for qualifiers will count

Looking at the past year or so, we (Netherlands) will probably go home with 1 gold, 186 silver medals and maybe 1 or 2 bronzes

Fantastic song, but the part at 1:35 (where the music "really" starts) is in my opinion one of the greatest parts of any song ever

The new one, without a doubt. Obviously it's sad that all old content is gone....not so much results that can be found anywhere on internet, but unique things like the all-sports medal tables and the threads about which nations have yet or not yet qualified for Rio.
Discuz however was so hopeless in terms of options...I mean, for crying out loud, it did not even have a "spoiler" option
Also it's cool that the other had so many results (although discussing was often impossible because people just had to urge to post every single result of every single heat of every single event for World Championships or World Cups), but without a working "search" function, that's 90% useless...
On this forum we have both the search and spoiler function which I think would greatly increase the whole results thing:
    - Post results in a spoiler --> They won't get in the way of discussions and won't take you forever to scroll down the page
    - Simply use the search function when you want to find certain results
    Perfect

If there is one thing I am absolutely sure of, it is that me and a million of Dutch (and probably international) speed skating fans have said Kulizhnikov is not to be trusted since the very beginning of his domination
I think you remember it a little wrong. I definitely talked about him breaking 34 because it was a historic moment in speed skating and it was clear that the chance was very big he would do it. I don't know how I put it, but I could have said something about mixed feelings: 1. I wish Wotherspoon would still have the record but 2. seeing the 34s being broken live was a historic moment.
But what I can absolutely guarantee is that I have had the same opinion as almost everyone about Kulizhnikov since his return and sudden domination: don't trust it. And yes, I am sure I have also said something about his technique, because doping or no doping, I still think he has a beautiful technique (calm, but incredibly strong).

I'm a statistics fan as well
Therefore I really don't see any argument of why to do it different than posting results in spoilers. If you do that, people who love results are happy because there are results and people who find too many results annoying are happy because spoilers don't take too much space --> Perfect compromise I guess.
I was just saying there is a search function now and how that's useful. On the old forum with some bad luck you had to go to literally dozens of pages in certain sports threads to find a result you were looking for. Now you go to "Search", type the name of an athlete or something and done.

I thought it might be good to have a general chat thread, just for all kinds of stuff and for some general talk
We didn't have it on the old forum, often resulting in these kind of things ending up in all kinds of other threads
