Beautiful victory for Kasia Niewiadoma in the Fleche Wallone, after already finishing 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd and 2nd in her career, finally she takes the win, her first in almost five years

Oooh yes, we might have one of those classics again.....Lorena Wiebes sprinted for the win in the Amstel Gold Race and celebrated....but it was too early and Marianne Vos passed her on the line

I keep wondering how someone can act so unmeasurably dumb as a pro cyclist (and the best sprinter in the world, mind you)

Fantastic analysis by Annemiek van Vleuten on TV: Wiebes' jump wasn't good enough......yeah, possibly because her hands were in the air

    Hi everyone!

A bit of a family emergency is going on right now (my dad isn’t doing too well, he’s on his way to the hospital as I type this), which may explain my lack of inactivity on Totallympics and updating all of the various sporting events

If anyone wants to post any of them that’ll be appreciated, and if not then I’ll post them when I’m fully back!

Actually, it might even be within a few days. I’ve just thought about it, and when I’m not busy visiting him at the hospital, I might choose to watch/share results of some sports. Bit of a confusing response I know, but to explain my thought process, watching (along with playing, but irrelevant point) sports and sharing results on Totallympics are two of my favourite things to do. Trying to not worry too much when personal problems is hard for me, and it might be what I need to not freak out and have mental breakdowns every couple of minutes. But we’ll see.

Got our first DL meet coming up on Saturday from Xiamen .  Here's the timetable (local time) and entrants.  Hopefully no presents for local runners this time!

Haven't fields like these been the go-to-place for throwers looking for limits and records for years already?

So it seems like the dramatic announcement was all to say she is trying out a new hydration drink this year

It does make it easier and better to view for non-regular viewers if the differences in the categories are only limited to the number of athletes in the boat and the oars (or however it's called) they're using, and something less visible like weight isn't really a thing anymore. Lightweight classes have often felt a bit like a category for rowers who are too small, like if there's a special volleyball competition for people under 1.65m

Marianne Vos herself is mostly showing sympathy for Wiebes, which once again - as we've seen for years - shows how wonderful a person Vos is and always has been.

Joking aside, the biggest issue is that lightweights were brought in to help nations whose people just aren’t as big as the power nations

Mine is one of them, so I’m biased, but the following countries have had Olympic finalists in the last 20 or so years that aren’t from “traditional” rowing countries; Japan, France, South Africa, Greece, Cuba, Finland, Portugal, Ireland, Switzerland, Uruguay, Czech Republic, Belgium.

Theres extra places for qualification too compared to heavyweight doubles so even more countries are brought in.

Obviously some of the countries above have had the odd heavyweight success too but lightweights have brought in a lot to the sport. Shame, IMO, they’re excluded from the Olympics now

But for sure Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Qatar are the kings in buying athletes (if we define buying athletes as athletes who have zero connection with the country)

And Austria takes the win. Next up, the Netherlands and Latvia. If Latvia wins,  has to very much hope takes the whole thing, in order to also go to OQT2.
